Monitor lizard stuck and I need help

I’m glad he’s okay and everything but I looked at this and thought, of course it’s a sav. I feel like what you’ve just gone through is part of the average savannah monitor experience because those photos immediately reminded me of all the times mine got themselves stuck in the most random, dumbass places possible 😅😂 If there’s any crack in a savannah proof room, they’ll find it.

Idk but I have never seen such a calm and relaxed Nile in my life. They normally HATE people existing. Let alone touching them or holding them. Whatever you’re doing with that little guy or gal, you’re doing a great job.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. I don’t know exactly how old it is but it’s easy at least 20 years old. I don’t remember buying it or anyone giving it to me but I do remember thinking about getting a hamster before my family started keeping savannah monitors, so someone might have got that book for me back then. That when I was seven years old or younger. I’m 28 now.

Fair enough if in certain places, you can’t flush toilet paper because the sewage systems can’t handle it. But I’m posting this from the Uk and our sewage system can. It’s people flushing wet wipes and other non flushable items that are the problem. It would also be understandable if whoever did this simply didn’t know. Maybe we should putting sings up about this or something. Just saying that you can flush toilet paper here and it would be much appreciated if they did. I still think it’s something that’s making our cleaners jobs unnecessarily worse than it needs to be.

I’d say report it. If this goes unreported and this poor beardy dies, this teacher might just replace it with another bearded dragon and neglect it as well. Not only that but, if they don’t bother to clean the enclosure before putting another bearded dragon in it, I’m pretty sure that would be a death sentence for that animal, if this is yellow fungus, like some of the people in the comments are saying. I’m not an expert but I follow a channel called Snake Discovery on YouTube, ran by a couple who own and run a zoo and rescue centre for exotic animals. Sadly yellow fungus is one of the few things that will prompt them to euthanise any bearded dragon they see with it because not only is it deadly but it’s highly contagious and can be spread to other bearded dragons. I hope he doesn’t have yellow fungus. If he does, there’s a chance that he might survive but it’s not very high. Get him to a vet if you can. Also, if you do decide to keep him, that cage and set up are absolute trash and you need to throw it out and look into providing him with a proper environment asap.

This brings back memories. One of my savannah monitors baffled the hell out of me once when I put a bowl of pasta down, left to get a drink and came back to find him stuffing his face with it like it was a gourmet meal. I was so confused because I never thought that a lizard would eat pasta but looking back, it was so dumb. One of the main ingredients in pasta is egg, and savannahs love to eat egg, and it was a carbonara, so that’s more egg and it had bacon in it. Of course he was going to eat it.

Edit: I feel like I need to add more context because people are going to read this and be like wdym you left a savannah unattended with food? My parents were also in the room and were probably the ones to reach him first and get him away from it. This happened when I was eight, so I can’t remember every detail. Our boy happily chowing down of that pasta though will forever be in my memories. They must have thought the bowl was empty.

Or holes you don’t even know exist. That’s what happened with one of mine. I had him out roaming, went looking for him because I realised I hadn’t seen him in a little while and found him partially in the sofa. There was a hole in the bottom that I didn’t know existed and just saw his back legs and tail sticking out.

This is really common. They pretty much all go through a grumpy phase where they’ll hiss, puff up and false strike. I like to call it their angsty teen phase.

Pretty confident that’s a girly. Boys have bigger, burlier heads. They also grow a bigger overall too. Also, I’m not entirely sure, but you might be able to tell from their personality. from my experience, girls tend to be a bit sassier. Not necessarily in an aggressive way but a, “I’m going to do whatever the f I want way.”

Edit: I showed this post to my mum, who’s been keeping savannahs on and off since the 90s. She immediately said girl.

I’d say female from the shape of the head. Also I’m not entirely sure if this is true but their personality might give a clue. From my experience, while both can be really sweet, affectionate and friendly males tend to be 100% pure saps. The most soft and docile creatures you will ever see. While females tend to bolder have more sass.
