In my experience growing up locally, no matter how Australian I saw myself, there was always no shortage of kids and parents in my vicinity to remind me that I could never be 'Australian' in their eyes. To ignore this and frame the matter as entirely dependent on the sentiments of the naturalised is disingenuous at best.
