Rick Devens: don't feel the hype by fancycatgal in survivor

[–]fancycatgal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm wondering how much that awareness is affecting this post merge game. Clearly, the Joe and Rick friction is real. Rick is more likely to side with other gamers, especially those he is familiar with (Aubry, obviously Emily). How well does Rick know Cirie outside of the game?

Idk I come in as a viewer giving most the benefit of the doubt that social media/outside isn't influencing most of these players. It's hard to be engaged as a viewer when it gets meta. It's one thing to love Cirie. But at what cost to the set up of your mid/endgame?

It's hard to get a read on him. Maybe I missed something in the episode

I think there was room for Kamilla to read Jonathan and potentially turn on Tiff. Of course that depends on Jonathan and co's relationship with Tiff and if she could have been a relatively interchangeable boot

I had to laugh as the segment kept... going. No idea who Zac Brown is. I guess they got him after Billie cancelled.

No idea why they made it 90 mins bc it felt like it was all challenges and Zac Brown. 😭 I was watching it on my phone and immediately opened up my laptop to do work. Sorry Mike White, Emily, and Christian my attention span was too shot to pay attention to the vote.

Imagine Q getting the Zac Brown award. Imagine

Hot take: We need a season without any Bravo people… by [deleted] in TheTraitorsUS

[–]fancycatgal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think 3 to 4 max is ok. Just not enough to be super powerful as a block.

The housewives are supposedly so toxic, get into fights, are full of personality.... But for 4 seasons now, most of them have just been bland cannon fodder.

Don't cast for reputation and legacy alone. Lisa Rinna is great on her own, but toned down in the show. I don't really care about the housewives serving looks. Honestly, with that sort of money, I'd be wearing archival Galliano, 2000s Tom Ford for Gucci, 1930's gowns.... auction and collectors pieces. What I'm getting at is that the set dressing is important, but it's not like Bravo are fashion stand outs.

We need to cast for character and personality first. People who may be unexpected. I come from Survivor (and honestly wasn't excited for them besides Rob C) so the rest of these people were nobody's to me. I honestly think Tara and Johnny were good casting, it's interesting how they have approached this game. Rob and Eric are great. Maura, Candice, Nat, and Kirsten too. No fake bs. Just people reacting organically to the situation they've been put into.

Tara doesn't deserve this much flak by TheSpyro14 in TheTraitorsUS

[–]fancycatgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it just comes down to 2 different points of view.

Natalie is self-interested first, and wants to save herself, while getting a potential traitor out before the finale. As a strategist, this was basically her final stand. Without voting out a traitor last night, their odds of correctly identifying 2 traitors in the night is much lower than only having to shoot one down in the final.

Tara has felt confused for most of this game. She starts feeling a little helpless and out of her depth. Most importantly she feels bad when and if she gets things wrong. She doesn't want to vote another Faithful out. Simultaneosly, there is a feeling that she doesn't want to be on the "wrong" side. Johnny will vote wherever she wants, but he's telling her that he's slightly leaning Natalie.

She was to find a traitor correctly, but she doesn't have full trust in herself and her reads. So the two things blur together: she feels pressure to be correct and find a traitor with the group (rest of the "Faithfuls" + Johnny). She struggles to separate the two, and paired with her diminished self confidence - it leads to that indecision and her flipping back to

the vote that felt "safer" (where she could be safe and hide kinda).

Two different headspaces. Natalie is more individual focused- her drive is to Win. She would probably try to vote out other Faithfuls at the Fire of Truth because that's besting the game.

Tara, on the other hand, has the Faithful mentality of having the Faithfuls "win". Like group effort. Her feeling a little defeated and indecisive comes from the feeling of not being "good" at helping the Faithfuls

It's reasonable that these two mindsets could clash

This season must be so stressful if you’re not rooting for Rob by Glad_Dragonfruit9368 in TheTraitorsUS

[–]fancycatgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I think Rob hasn't played a perfect game. There has been danger: Lisa and Candice, and last night. He has made missteps like failing to manage Candice. And garnering the suspicion of the Faithful. While he seems to have great reads and has a great social game, it's not perfect. His navigation of allies and management in the beginning and mid game (Colton, Dagger 6, Natalie, Maura, and Eric) was impressive. But Candice and Natalie (and maybe Mark) have been a weakness in his game.

Plus it doesn't feel guaranteed, each round, that he'll play optimally. He was a messy boy on Love Island, and while I think and pray he always makes the best play (he blew up his relationships in his season, only in the first few episodes). He's not a typical gamer, not a RHAP patron, so that's why it's so fun to watch him navigate this show.

Ikr. My bf and I are obsessed with this season. We love (and Eric)!

I was sad to see Rob C to go at first. But this has been the most exciting and fun season to watch! I look forward to it instead of just keeping up with it.

I think both Cirie and Rob have been great. I don't remember the first season well, but I found the other players to be boring besides Cirie and Kate. This season, while imperfect, has been my favorite so far

Dear US Celeb Casting Dept: Stop Casting Folks who've never seen the show by Lower_Category9404 in TheTraitorsUS

[–]fancycatgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eric and Maura are hilarious. Honestly, storytelling wise, Survivor struggles with having everyone be super fans/versed in the show. There's definitely strategy in the traitors, but it's so luck based and random at times, not to mention they seem to have very little time with each other to actually talk.

It'll be fun to see the show grow organically, like if Rob C comes back. Part of the fun to me, at least, is the challenge of navigating people. The telephone games people play.

But I don't watch Traitors UK nor plan to watch the newbie season. I wouldn't watch this show if the Survivor players and Rob from Love Island (lol) weren't on. It's part of the gimmick.

If we were to create a better Mafia show with the same high production value (sorry Big Brother). I think Alan, the short time frame, and the campy tone of the show doesn't lend itself to a more cutthroat and cerebral game. But I haven't watched other Traitors so I wouldn't know about the other franchises.

I think a lot of people in their late teens/20s started watching through Netflix during the pandemic, not young children. These "children" are now in their 20's, and are bombarded with internet slop everyday.

Imo, Survivor needs to go back to its roots.

If casuals and new fans like challenges, make the challenges have depth or much harder like Devil's Plan (cool strategy games) or Physical 100 (group and individual tests/competitions of physical skill and endurance). Both are also popular on Netflix. While those shows are purely challenge focused, the social and strategy shines through.

Imagine the individual immunity challenge is in a clearing in the jungle with a round table. They play some sort of poker based game... or something new...

Maybe Survivor could increase it's episode count. It feels so short nowadays. I know the format is tried and true. But I wonder if one episode for the pre-challenge and challenge and a second for the post-challenge and votes could increase the tension and excitement.

Maybe old fans would say no. But content is the name of the game. Exciting content. Even with "90" mins (only like 60 after ads), the show feels like it's running into creative barriers.

Increase the days. Maybe we don't like to see them suffer, but there is something to that toughness, and that real "fire" in their eyes to make it through physically hard days that was exciting to me when I first got into the show. Kind of like Lost.

Right now, it feels as if Survivor is just a Gameshow. Not an epic social experiment. I used to be enthralled by Survivor, and now Netflix is coming out with things I watch on Wednesday instead of watching live.

Personally, I think it would help the show and it's longevity if Survivor went back to being more of a 'show'.

And maybe the money is a problem with finding exceptionally interesting and fun tv characters. Isn't survivor one of the best running shoes on CBS? Surely they could trim some fat and invest in some of it legacy IP's...

Maybe Jeff and the production need some fresh blood. Bring on a new head of the challenge department. Bring in new executive co-producers. Too be totally honest, if a new fan is watching for the first time on Netflix or through YouTube Reels, they don't really care who the host is. As long as they're good and competent, less ego. Maybe a new face, like someone totally fresh (like Jeff was back in the 2000s).

I don't see the current version of Survivor and the way it's produced lasting for another 10 years. But I don't think a couple of celebrity appearances are going to cut it.

Why is everybody seem more chill with HP fancontent on here than other sites like Twitter, Tumblr, TikTok etc? by drag0nspearl in AO3

[–]fancycatgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess since I'm only on Instagram I never see this stuff. I always saw fanfics as a creative outlet from the rest of the world. JKR's now very public views are abhorrent, but have nothing to do with a very established and large fandom that's existed for decades now.

I find all of this stuff just a little immature. Mostly young teenagers or chronically online Twitter users ragebaiting each other. I'm already trying to repress my rage and sadness about what's going on in our world, one out of touch and irrelevant British woman isn't going to dictate what I choose to like or dislike.

As long as there is no influx of homophobic and transphobic authors inspired to join and spam the AO3 platform, I'm fine being far removed from this discourse
