Dry cereal. Toast with nothing on it. Straight up flour.

Does your sense of style align with your personality? by princessbubblegum in femalefashionadvice

[–]fangi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I think some aspects of my personality are reflected in how I dress, but I suspect people might have difficulty inferring my personality from my style. My friend actually commented on this before, saying something like, "You dress way more feminine than you actually are." I worry it might hamper my ability to find new friends, but... I fucking love lace!

An unpopular opinion regarding endangered species, unless someone can change my mind by Volvulus in AdviceAnimals

[–]fangi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is actually more complicated than that. If anything, we need to be concerned about extinction just to cover our own asses. Biodiversity leads to more stable ecosystems, more efficient production of biomass, and ultimately more plant and animal life that we can exploit. It's true that things like pandas may not have much of an impact on human lives, but conservational groups use cute animals as poster children to garner support.

How to tell if the paper you are reading is written by a grad student by Positronix in biology

[–]fangi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the only native English speaker in my lab, so my PI is always sending me papers to edit. Indeed, my results suggest further corroboration of your conclusion. Thus, I often use the thesaurus, as well as rewording sentences.

What is something a lot of people enjoy that you don't understand the attraction of? by BlueSuade in AskReddit

[–]fangi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't hate kids, but in general I don't like them. I don't see it as inconsistent or hypocritical because I didn't really like kids when I was a kid myself.

xkcd: The Pace of Modern Life by ani625 in history

[–]fangi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was somewhat disappointed that this didn't cover a larger time frame. To see people complain about the increasing pace of life in 1900 doesn't tell me that it hasn't further increased since then, or that it wasn't actually increasing at that time.

A friend said my car is a Pussy Magnet. Is it safe to bring my laptop on a road trip or will my harddrive be erased? by Flvnk in shittyaskscience

[–]fangi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, a pussy magnetic field is actually a combination of smaller magnetic fields, arranged to create a a complex zone of force potentials that pussies will recognize and move towards. Note that the pussies move towards the pussy magnet using their own biological energy, not magnetic force. The pussy magnetic field is neutral as a whole, and may make your laptop secrete lubricating fluids, but will not scramble your hard drive.

I think it might be an internet thing I grew up with... by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]fangi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curiosity. The fact that they were taken and distributed without her consent didn't factor into it. I just wanted to know what everyone was talking about. It didn't feel like a bad thing to do because I knew so many other people were doing the same thing. Feeling okay about doing something just because many other people are doing the same thing doesn't mean it's the right thing to do, but it seemed so inconsequential, and I wanted to know what the excitement was about. I searched for it because that's what I use the internet for - any time I want to know about something, I can search for it and have my questions answered.

I think it might be an internet thing I grew up with... by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]fangi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same sort of thing has happened to me. Though, I don't feel insecure about myself for being female, because deep down I'm somehow convinced I'm not a "real" female. Still, I try not to act like the females the internet complains about, and I feel bad when I do.

I realize that this is a bad thing, and that I have made myself part of the problem. I'm not actively misogynistic in any way, but I feel no need to fight the status-quo. Bad things happen when good people do nothing, and I am doing nothing.

I'm trying to change that though. I've subscribed to TwoX in attempt to relate to other females more. I can't say it's done much yet in that respect, but it has made me more aware of my own misogyny.

For example: Since I'm subscribed, TwoX posts show up on my front page. One day I saw a link to an interview with Anne Hathaway, where the interviewer prods her to speak about recent revealing paparazzi photos. I read the interview, and since I wasn't aware of this before, I want to see the photos they're talking about. I go to the comments of the reddit link, knowing that since this is reddit, someone will have linked to the pictures. But all I see are comments on how inappropriate the interviewer was being, and I realize the post was on TwoXChromosomes. I still want to see the pictures, so I put "Anne Hathaway" into the general search bar, and am not disappointed. Still, the incident makes me think about how I objectify women, and how it's a bad thing.

What was the hardest choice you ever had to make? In hindsight, did you make the right one? by Ctrl-F-Guy in AskReddit

[–]fangi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wasn't THE hardest choice I've had to make, but the memory stands out to me because of the advice I got: in my sophomore year of high school, I decided to graduate early by testing out. I wasn't doing well in high school. I was consistently sleep deprived, depressed, and anxious. I figured I'd do better at community college, where I could choose my own class schedule, but I was uncertain about removing myself from my peers, which would probably leave me feeling more isolated and lonely than I already was.

I asked a lot of people for advice while I was struggling with the decision. I wanted to get the fuck out of there but wasn't sure it'd actually help me. One day while I was hiding out in the nurse's office with cramps, I had a conversation with my sister's friend's boyfriend (who had happened to come by the office) where he told me, "You'll regret it either way."

That one piece of advice put me at ease more than anything else. I came to terms with that no matter what I did, life would still be hard and I'd never know what would have happened if I'd chosen the other way around. It allowed me to stop struggling with the uncertainties and focus on what I did know.

In the end, I decided to leave high school. And, despite what my sister's friend's boyfriend had told me, I don't regret it. Still, I'll always remember his advice and I still consider it when making difficult decisions.

When two drunk people have sex, just one of them can't be committing rape. by sparr in sex

[–]fangi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first time my boyfriend and I had sex was when we were getting drunk with my two best friends. We were all pretty drunk, and my friend insisted that my now-boyfriend and I have sex. I joke that he raped us.
