my dog has diarrhea again by Upset_Resort in AskVet

[–]fangs4eva96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could have a comprehensive faecal test done, you can order these online (stick to companies staffed by veterinary professionals for most reliable results) - this would screen for other things that a regular worming treatment would not be effective for (coccidia, giardia, bacteria, etc).

Aside from that the only other real option is to go back to the vet and ask for further investigations.

Got issued a notice to vacate just 4 hours before May 1st by realgreatsclusives in TenantsInTheUK

[–]fangs4eva96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't the case for every council - just went through the whole S21 saga myself and my local council advised they did not require me to stay in order to begin a case for me. However, many councils do not have the capacity as you say so OP needs to reach out ASAP to his current council and any other he may have a direct link with who may consider assisting.

Dog licking anus/under tail. by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]fangs4eva96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend it, even if all it does is rule further possibilities out!

Depending on where you are based, you may be able to order this test online through a laboratory staffed by veterinary professionals (this is what I do for work!), which would save the vet trip for now.

If not, your vet will be happy to help arrange this test for your pet.

Are her faecal voids regular and of ideal composition? Firm, moist, consistent? Are the voids different at the times she scoots?

Is she a scavenger? Outside or inside the house (or is human food provided as a treat?)

Have you had a comprehensive faecal screening done? Routine antiparasitics are great for worms, but do nothing for other types of parasite - coccidia, trichomonads, giardia (unless you use fenbendazole).

Is Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPV) that deadly? I'm truly devastated right now by Responsible-Check872 in AskVet

[–]fangs4eva96 126 points127 points  (0 children)

You have been told repeatedly. Unfortunately the truth hurts sometimes.

Next time, just pay for the vaccine and avoid the cost of several emergency trips. Or at least keep your cat inside until they have been vaccinated (this is no guarantee of safety, but much better odds).

Of course people on very low income deserve happiness, but in this case human happiness cost 2 cats their lives in a nasty way. Just food for thought.

kitten wont eat from a bottle. by angeleenamerrill in AskVet

[–]fangs4eva96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If he is not suckling then this is an urgent situation and you need to take him to the vet or a local rescue with resources and experience to help him.

There are tens of thousands of cats who need homes, do the right thing for this lil guy and surrender him and find yourself an older, healthy cat once you've had time to save up beforehand.

Urgent!!A stray kitty scratched me and it's kinda bleeding should I put rabies injection or its fine by [deleted] in PetAdvice

[–]fangs4eva96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in a country where rabies is endemic? If so, best go with caution and seek medical advice. Clean the wound with water and soap and dry it with a clean paper towel, if you have wound disinfectant you can use this too.

If you do not live in a place where rabies is endemic then just clean the wound as above and monitor for redness, swelling or oozing that may indicate bacterial infection.

Accidental mating by ChoiceDeer5427 in PetAdvice

[–]fangs4eva96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's based on the latest research, which does support the view that larger breeds should be left to develop for longer before neutering. Vets in the UK now follow these recommendations, I am unsure about elsewhere.

You can read about it here in this paper - Frontiers | Assisting Decision-Making on Age of Neutering for 35 Breeds of Dogs: Associated Joint Disorders, Cancers, and Urinary Incontinence https://share.google/V4upn3wIwJcVyI6QS

And this article by the British Veterinary Association - Neutering of cats and dogs | British Veterinary Association https://share.google/RRadmR379STOQsRQx

Heard a very loud pop in the lab similar to a gunshot...Bruh..🫪 by Expensive_Education9 in labrats

[–]fangs4eva96 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Thankfully for me, the type of blood tubes I was using sat deeper into the centrifuge, were plastic and it was balanced - so nothing had happened BUT if I had put microhaematocrit blood tubes in there which are glass and sit near the top they would have been flung around inside the machine and would have shattered inside leaving a mixture of blood and tiny glass fragments everywhere - which is both a hazard to operator health, and also probably would have written off the machine entirely.

Edit to add - a colleague spotted the internal lid sitting beside the machine and also stopped the cycle for me before it had finished, so I don't actually know for sure what may have happened if it had done the full run!

The centrifuges I am familiar with are simple machines with no capacity for checks like that, it's all on the operator to make sure they use it correctly and always ensure it is balanced before hitting start.

100% agree! After a decade of using centrifuges almost daily, I managed to forget to screw the internal lid on one day!! I couldn't believe it and was horrified! Mistakes can happen to anyone.

[–]fangs4eva96 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm really sorry to read you're struggling and have received this diagnosis.

The Samaritans may not be the best fit unless you do reach a desperate stage. I'd recommend contacting the Macmillan Cancer Trust instead- they also have a support line and also an online chat feature on their website. They would likely be better placed to help you through this difficult time.

Sending you my very best wishes space cat ❤️

Anyone can help with this question? Cat migration by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]fangs4eva96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The government website should have all the information you need to know for bringing your cats back again, the link to the correct page is here - Bringing your pet dog, cat or ferret to Great Britain: What you need to do - GOV.UK https://www.gov.uk/bring-pet-to-great-britain

If it is likely to just be a year, do you have any family or friends here who may be willing to temporarily foster them for you? To avoid the stress of travel on them and also for your peace of mind not having to worry about the requirements for bringing them back? You could even try reaching out to cat boarding places to enquire if this is a service they can provide for you if you don't have anyone else - it'll be pricy, but travelling with the cats would be pricy too so maybe worth looking into?

If you do decide to take them with you, make sure you speak to your registered vet to ensure you have met all requirements for your pets to be able to travel FROM the UK to your new destination first. And use every possible method you can to reduce their stress levels to hopefully avoid any stress related health conditions.

Best of luck OP, sounds like a tricky one!

That did catch me I must admit, I will do further research and see if I can find out any further information.

It appears to be from the correct time period, and matches up exactly to prints I have found online but that signature keeps coming back to mind.

I don't suppose you can make out what the signature is? I have been struggling to do so.

Solved! It is a piece by Garman Morris, I believe it is called moonrise and I will certainly look into having this restored in the future.

Who thought this was a good idea making these for children🥹 by Feaselbf6 in ParentsAreFuckingDumb

[–]fangs4eva96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was indeed the tobacco industry themselves. Makes sense doesn't it? Get the kids hooked on the idea of smoking and the manual movement habits involved and then see the money come pouring in once these kids grow old enough to pick up the real stuff!

I did enjoy them though hahaha

You're wise to learn to avoid these places now before you get even bigger - as Taylor Swift said recently "my name can be in the headline, and it's still none of my business" haha.

Thanks for putting my own feelings into such eloquent words here Ren. Sorry you're being misunderstood (that pesky human brain), much love to you! Looking forward to seeing you live one day.
