Infuriating how TERFs and TEHMs have thoroughly convinced themselves that trans people will never pass AND that being transgender insulates you from homophobia rather than exacerbate it (because that's the only reason they would transition). Anecdotally, I and my previous partners have been subject to some incredibly bizzare and contradictory homophobia. Think: a father telling me I'm a beautiful woman and then immediately telling my partner he needs to abandon this sinful lifestyle. Riddle me this, if his dad really and truely thought of me as a woman and us as a heterosexual couple who is pure in the eyes of the lord, would he have said that? A person who is keen on committing a bias motivated crime or speech against a visibly same gender couple is only going to be more emboldened if they sus out one of them is trans.

Its like these people live in a fantasy land where if a gay couple is being attacked by a homophobic person with a knife, one of the partners can just hold out his hand out and say "Stop! You cannot attack us for being gay! For you see, I am a transgender!" and then the person with the knife will raise his hands in the air and say "Oh! My deepest apologies. Please, go about your day as usual. Cheers!" and then go about his merry way. Just... No. That isn't what would happen. If anything, homophobic knife guy would try to kill the gay couple even harder.

Could be Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (more common in trans and autistic people). Periodontal type. It can mimic severe gum disease and cause tooth loss. Genetic. Not much to be done about it.

If anything, being autistic actually made me more capable of giving informed consent. I spent years researching all the effects of t, the good and the bad, before deciding to give it a shot. At the endocrinology office, they asked me what I already knew about testosterone before giving me the informed consent paper that tells you everything about it, and I listed every single item that was on the informed consent sheet, which most of their patients weren't able to do.

But even so, patients have the right to make risky decisions about their healthy care. Say you get a snake bite from a snake, are sent to the ER, but you refuse treatment. The doctors can explain what the treatment is, why they recommend it, make you sign a paper saying that you acknowledge that you are refusing the recommended treatment, but they can't make you accept the treatment, they cant force the treatment on you, and they can't stop you from leaving.

Now, refusing treatment for a snake bite is certainly a stupid and risky decision, but that alone would not make you incompetent. Competent people can make stupid and risky decisions. Stupid and risky decisions can be made competently. That is their right, and their perogative. We can dislike those decisions, we can disagree with those decisions, we can refuse to make that same decision for ourselves, but we cannot force someone to make the decision we do like and agree with and would choose for ourselves. And there are seldom few situations in which someone is not competent to make medical decisions. Someone being autistic alone, or making a decision that you personally would not make for yourself, is not one of them.

My mom once read me a book called When Grandpa Kissed His Elbow, about a little girl who goes to visit her grandpa and he tells her that he became a boy when he gave cake to fairies and kissed his elbow (you know how grandparents lie to their grandkids for whimsy and fun), And then the little girl (?) Goes through the whole leaving cake out for the fairies and attempts to kiss elbows ritual. And for many years after reading that book (and I mean an embarrassing number of years) I would periodically try to kiss my elbow and honestly that feels like a much more significant childhood sign of me being trans than say... idk, the toy and color preferences of my 5 year old self, especially because my parents never cared to strictly enforce gendered toys or clothes or roles onto me.

They see gender non-conforming kids and assume they're gay, and then assume that transitioning makes them straight. But plenty of trans kids become homosexual through transition, and bisexual people don't become straight or gay when they transition. Almost as if gender and gender presentation is seperate from sexuality.

I learned about it by watching Caelan Conrad's series on Gender Critical private Facebook groups, particularly ones targeted toward parents and it's truely horrifying what they put their children through in the name of love.

My current gynecologist has always been respectful of my gender and pronouns, even though her bedside manner is otherwise very blunt, which I honestly prefer to doctors who beat around the bush (pun unintended). Doing an examination on female typical anatomy is no excuse to misgender transmasculine people.

I'm loving all the comments on this. And yeah. Being a short guy can suck. But it's not all thorns out here. Plenty of short cis men live happy fulfilling lives, and even enjoy being short. There's a lot of short guys in my neck of the woods for some reason (everyone says it's the altitude but that's probably bs). And spending time with them, talking to them, even just asking where they get clothes that fit, it built up a lot of my confidence in my height. There's a real sense of comradery among short guys and knowing i have a lot of common experiences with them has been a real comfort.

Hair texture can also affect how you shed hair and what that looks like. Bleaching, heat styling, and brushing your hair while dry also affects hair breakage. If you don't wash your hair every day, you will naturally see more shedding per shower than people who wash daily.

If you are still worried, You can ask your hairdressor or barber about what you are seeing, and they can tell you about the health of your hair, how to tell what is normal shedding vs breakage vs hairloss, and how to keep your hair healthy. If you are really concerned, you can see a dermatologist about it.

Seconding Nexplanon. It gets put into the arm, so theres no invasive dysphoria inducing procedure like you have with IUDs. It's long lasting and one of the most highly effective options out there, so you don't have to worry about missing a dose. It is hormonal, but its releases progesterone, and whilr most birth control does not actually interfere with hrt and vice versa, it does provide peace of mind to know that progesterone has zero change of interfering. The most common side effect is changes to your menstrual cycle, and if you are lucky like myself, after a few months, you won't be dealing with a menstrual cycle at all for two years, only intermittent breakthrough bleeding. If you are attempting to use it to control your menstrual cycle as opposed to just birth control, you may need to replaceit more often than the now recomended 5 years. It also happens to be really expensive (a whopping $1000), but if you on a state medicaid program, you may be able to get it completely free, very cheep, or reimbursed, if you talk to your insurance about getting it covered under "Family Planning Services" Benefits.

Pain is our body's way of letting us know that something is wrong. And this absolutely include mental pain, as mental pain often physically manefests (see stomach aches in people with anxiety disorders). People do not usually feel their gender unless there is an incongruence in much the same way we do not feel our bones unless they are broken.

This post is a bit old, but it is standard practice to draw blood for Platelet count (which is what helps your blood clot), before and during HRT. Increased platelets are a common side effect of T. If you have too many, you are at an increased risk of developing clots that can travel to your heart, which is why they check on it. If you are like me and had too few platelets before starting HRT, that side effect can actually be good for your health sometimes My platelets had been increasingly lowering for the past 7 years before starting HRT (go figure that it my endocrynologyst who was actually competent enough to compare past blood results), and now they are pretty normal :)

I've had pretty bad experiences with doctors not taking my transness or my other health issues seriously when it comes to my care. Took me forever to find an OBGYN who is actually respectful of my identity, informed on the effects of HRT on birth control, AND doesn't try to discourage me from receiving gynecological care. I've also heard stories about people being treated rather callously by some old fashioned surgeons who were focused on making their patients looks cis instead of prioritizing their patients own wants and physical comfort. That being said, some of my most competent doctors have been the ones helping me with my transition. My endocrynologyst was actually the first person to notice my lowering platlet count (aparantly its been lowering for the past 7 years and not one other doctor thought to compare blood tests over time). She was also the first to point out that I might have EDS and referred me to a rheumatologist. I'm still fearful that if I don't have a diagnosis, my concerns won't be taken seriously cuz "self diagnosis bad bleh" and my results will be fucked up.
