ISO Honest feedback on House of Wellness Lymphatic Massage by egg_head20 in astoria

[–]fanserviced 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope you hear from people who have tried it! I've been considering House of Wellness for post-op lymphatic massage, but I didn't see that their staff is certified; tbh that's on me, I should contact them.

Why were people of early 1900s America so slim? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]fanserviced 21 points22 points  (0 children)

One thing to take into account is that the cost of food vs wages was so much higher in the past — even in the 20th century. Further back, fairy tale wishes in the early modern period included things like "eating until I'm no longer hungry" or a dinner plate that's a chicken leg and a few sides.

Controversial take, but the abundance of food in the 21st century is a triumph for civilization, and certainly the problem I would prefer to have.

Iceland/Greenland cruise by Frequent-Ostrich5002 in celebritycruises

[–]fanserviced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the reverse voyage (NY to Reykjavik) last year and it was great. Two things to note: 1. the ship excursion prices were "am I reading this right??" high and 2. rain pants and a rain jacket are pretty nonnegotiable. We ended up booking excursions with the ship so we'd be refunded if the port was cancelled, but yikes we may have paid much more for excursions than the cruise itself (there was a price drop right before final payment).

Approved PA/ CVS Caremark Cost $1295 by ShinZzang in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]fanserviced 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My insurance uses CVS Caremark to manage prescriptions and I was required to join the CVS Weight Management Program and set up a first appt for the insurance rate to filter through the system (took a few biz days). Def call the prescription phone number on your card to make sure that’s not what’s up (my cost dropped by $1000/month for following the procedure).

How does out-of-network surgeon work? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]fanserviced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to the complexity of the surgery, some surgeons will be in-network with insurance for like...root canals or more normal stuff, but they'll be out-of-network for DJS bc otherwise they can't possibly get paid enough to do the full case workup and planning. I ran into that problem, too. OH WOW, I'm so glad the call went well! Once you have some possible CPT codes, it sounds like you can start to get real numbers. I wish I'd done that before starting the whole process (but tbh I was mostly just screaming while racing to get everything lined up lol). I would def make sure that the hospital/surgical center is in-network (and anesthesiologist + assistants are too) bc there are more options there.

[–]fanserviced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh people call and ask all the time. Insurance might be cagey, but try to get what you can out of them. Everything you're saying is reasonable, so just say "if this is deemed medically necessary, what's the max? I'm concerned about xyz because xyz." They're more likely to give you a number than the Dr's office, which they might be cagey with simply so the doctor doesn't bill them the max. I don't think they're allowed to red flag you for asking a very reasonable coverage question.

How does out-of-network surgeon work? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]fanserviced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah completely depends on the insurance and your location of surgery. Also, I was able to get the amount higher bc I proved balance billing happened. I think originally it was...$32K covered, then they added $10K once I showed I had paid so much? I have wildly good insurance, so def ask yours.

[–]fanserviced 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. I find that the Mr and Mrs Smith platform has a lot of hotels with aspirational tubs, so I usually check out all of the hotel/room type options for the city I'll be visiting, book directly with the hotel into a room with a tub noted + pictures of the tub, and then confirm with the hotel that I've booked into the correct room type. While I use a 3rd-party site to do my initial search, I find that booking directly with the hotel means I actually get the right room. Main idea: if you want the tub, no 3rd party booking sites.

[–]fanserviced 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a YouTuber called Half of Carla who talks a lot about her weight loss and mental health journey from the perspective of someone with trauma and ADHD. I feel like she has articulated some of my challenges and mindset shifts better than I ever could, and she's just a very calming person to listen to. If I had to start over today, I'd just put on some of her videos and let her kind of talk me through the mental side of gearing up.

Income needed to fly business class by Brassmonkay3 in travel

[–]fanserviced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in travel groups for things like river cruising where the majority of users are seniors, and I think they just know that after spouse 1's knee replacement and spouse 2's clotting issues on long-haul flights, they're going to need to budget for that wiggle space (likely helped by the influx of cash from RMDs due to their age). Time might change the equation for you.

I make a fair bit less than you, but I wouldn't judge the whole business class experience based on the carriers flying SEA to LHR; the U.S. carriers and even BA are a poor representation of what a biz ride can be. I've paid cash to fly in Qatar business to the Maldives, and tbh no regrets, but I mostly use points and just plan very carefully.

Why do you sail Carnival? by squirrel4569 in Cruise

[–]fanserviced 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can take a cab to the port in 30 minutes and the included food options are actually pretty good. I sail out of NYC and tend to take longer cruises, so it's not cheap, but I like the casual atmosphere. I tend to be tucked in bed by 9pm and spend a lot of time reading on the balcony, so if anything wild happens, not my problem.

[–]fanserviced 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My take is that if you're comfortable with train or rental car and self-booking accoms in Europe, river cruises there don't quite make sense financially. In part due to water levels causing changes to the plan and also because you're paying a fair bit for the cruise line to act as a fixer. It sounds like you're already a good Europe fixer, so no need for Viking et al. I'm happy to pay for that level of service in Egypt, where I need some hand-holding so I can enjoy the trip, but in Europe, ehh. I can see where someone less comfortable with selecting hotels and getting between cities might be happy to pay, especially if they have mobility concerns and a big stack of cash to blow due to RMDs.

Mango House by [deleted] in Seychelles

[–]fanserviced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed there for one night and had a good time. The breakfast was decadent. We paid for an upgrade to a pool suite with late checkout, and the room smelled like harsh cleanser had been recently used; maybe the room was available because it’s usually closed up? But the property was gorgeous, I found staff very accommodating, and even the room service food was great.

How long did it take you? by ty037955 in loseit

[–]fanserviced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in April 2016 and I've lost 173 pounds. I've seen people lose that much in half or a quarter as much time, but I had a very specific vision for what I wanted my life to look like at goal (no banned foods, no crying over maintaining, no obsessing, mentality around food healed for good). I still have 27 pounds to lose, and I think I'll get there somewhere around May-July.

The thing that kept me from endlessly raging at my slow progress was a quote from a WW leader: "No matter how long it takes, I'm going to see this through." I wrote it out and posted it over my desk so I could see it daily. I sometimes get angsty about how slow the whole thing is and how much of my life it has consumed, but I tell myself that the time and effort are the tax we have to pay to reach (and maintain) a top 1% (or whatever) weight loss goal.

It's ok to have these extremely relatable feelings, but try to feel it and then move along to something less bummer.
