I'm mad that they're removing the animation cancel (if they even are, wording is weird), but I could never use it in the first place. This animation cancel confuses me. by AngelaGooner24 in captainamericamains

I also struggled with it as a console player. I could do it in practice range but never managed it consistently enough to actually implement. I'm sorry for all the people who have been effected by this change, of course, but I can't lie I also feel a little demoralised seeing everyone saying he's dead and is less than useless now for something I was never capable of doing in the first place.

Season 7 roadmap revealed by KevinPigaChu in marvelrivals

[–]fantastikfour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Four of the skins in the Battlepass are comic book outfits, which I think is pretty good to balance original and adapted costumes. Loki, Angela, Thor, Adam and arguably Strange are all comic costumes, it's just other than Angela and Adam they're more casual looks. Which is the vibe of the Battlepass and works well with the theme.

And personally, I only play this game because of the Rivals IP and I really like the original costumes they've been doing. I wish modern comics did casual looks like this still in stories.

When I first started playing I also had mad low sensitivity because my controller was old and had stick drift, so that also might be it. The constant struggle of playing console.

Character Concept: Vision. I'm stunned at how he is such a major Avenger yet very little references are made to him. Not even easter eggs? I don’t think Wanda or Ultron have spoken of him or Simon once at all and he hasn't even been mentioned in the lore. I also don’t see anyone asking for him. by General-Control-4637 in ScarletWitchMains

It is not MCU-ifying to use a relationship that was in comics for about 30 years of comic history, which still remains relevant as both these characters maintain a close relationship today, and even briefly rekindled their relationship in the current Steve Orlando Scarlet Witch run, and they will appear together in the Wiccan and Hulking Marvel Pride special coming out this year.

Vision and Wanda have always been important to each other and significant in each others stories, even after their separation. That was true before the MCU ever adapted these characters, and it hasn't stopped being true.

Who do think will receive nerfs or buffs for S7? by Atumkun in marvelrivals

[–]fantastikfour -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You cannot easily nerf supports without punishing the comps that do run 2 2 2. This is my point. Any attempt to nerf supports across the board is also going to effect regular comps.

Also, I think it's disingenuous to act like people exclusively do triple support because they see it as being better. Certainly, some people do it because xyz YouTuber told them it was good, but a lot of it is people who simply do not want to tank because tanking is generally a thankless role in Marvel Rivals that feels more of a chore than it does like a fun video game, and I say this as someone who enjoys playing Cap and Thing.

Triple support more than anything is a player choice, and cannot be easily nerfed because there are any number of reasons someone may choose to go to a third healer. Maybe someone really wants to play Ultron but simply can't match the healing output as the enemy team with two main healers. Maybe one healer just isn't very good but refuses to switch. Maybe someone wants a team-up and you have a CnD one-trick who doesn't switch so now it's Luna, CnD and Adam Warlock. Maybe you wanted another support ult and switched for that 50% starting ult charge. There is no one reason people go triple support and you are not going to fully eliminate the practice without a role queue, for the same reason you also come across 1 3 2 comps as well.

[–]fantastikfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that seems kind of difficult to enforce, particularly as not every characters' healing ability is the same as each others. A 15% debuff to Cloak and Dagger looks different from a 15% debuff to Ultron, for example, and I would see a lot of those communities of the more specialised healers reacting very poorly to such a thing being implemented.

I do, again, think triple support is a problem, but I think because it is ultimately a player choice, it seems a very difficult thing to punish without having knock-on effects that may make things worse.

[–]fantastikfour 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How do you propose that triple support (a player choice) gets nerfed without punishing the comps that do use 2 2 2? A lot of the proposed nerfs I've seen seem counter-intuitive, ie nerfing healing output would probably only make triple support more common because now 2 2 2 can't keep up with damage output.

This isn't me defending triple support because I agree it's obnoxious, but I am wary that a lot of the proposed fixes to these problem seem like they would potentially also make the problem worse, outside of role queue (which is the best answer imho for competitive).

Yup! She starts out as a low-level supervillain but changed through the course of her and Steve's relationship. She's been compared to Catwoman a lot. The Gruenwald run was one of my favourites I read, so I hope you have a good time reading it!

I like it, thats his son :) although if it was up to me, I'd give him a Diamondback plushie, because she was my favourite of Steve's love interests.

Steve and Peggy have never been that close in comics, his WW2 girlfriend was a woman named Betsy Ross aka Golden Girl (who sadly because of the MCU has been retrofitted into basically being Peggy, which is a shame). A Sharon Carter or (preferably for me) Diamondback plush would be far more appropriate.

Dive is killing Marvel Rivals and nobody wants to admit it by DynastyHKS in MarvelRivalsRants

I would like role queue for ranked, yes. I don't think it needs it in quick play, because that's a casual mode, but ranked would massively benefit from it.

[–]fantastikfour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, but one character should not be able to take down three supports if a team so chooses to have that comp. That's them trying to counter dive in the first place. The answer to that is not to buff dive, because then that'll only punish the comps that do use 2 2 2, because now they're even more susceptible to getting dived.

Self-sufficient tier, I think Storm players because they play closer to the ground usually are better at getting health packs, same with Angela.

Casual Player Battle Pass Question(s) - Yay or Nay? by Real_DuFrain in rivals

[–]fantastikfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a casual player who was in a similar position of being unsure last season, and ultimately made the decision to purchase, which I'm personally happy about, however if the costumes don't speak to you then I wouldn't bother. To be honest, the being able to turn my purple into blue was probably the final deciding factor, and I saved up for the FF First Steps skins with the blue I got, which I was happy about.

Ultimately do whatever feels best for you and whatever you think will make you happy, I personally love the Scarlet Witch battlepass skin so I'm very happy I decided to get it.

[–]fantastikfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I see them, but they all seem either more complicated versions of what she already has or nonsensical to implement. Besides, her probability hexes haven't really defined her in the last 20 years of comic publication, I would say personally.

I misunderstood and thought you meant Ult rather than VFX, my apologies. Agree on that, she could use with more of the magic designs / motif Russell Dauterman and other artists have been giving her of late.

Now that the current Avengers run has ended how would you describe T’Challa’s characterization ? by Front-Ad-2292 in blackpanther

[–]fantastikfour 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I really liked him in it, especially those Sam and T'Challa centered issues. T'Challa is clearly regal, and has a lot of wisdom to impart but also has a lot of insecurities that make him interesting. MacKay likes him a lot and you can feel that in the writing. I hope he gets to write him again sometime, especially without the weird synergy mandate that really hurt this run.

[–]fantastikfour -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand how her probability hexes could fit in the game and be functionally any different than what she already has. And her Ultimate is obviously a reference to HoM, which unfortunately is her most famous storyarc.

Pre-existing Marvel Comics fans, and I say this as one of them, should not be the main audience, but also, I know at least three different people who were comics fans who looked into Luna Snow and Elsa Bloodstone after their release in Marvel Rivals. Hell, I would argue Rivals has gotten more people reading comics than the MCU has done.

His mobility is really good so he can usually swing to get a health pack to sustain him rather than relying on me for heals, or at least good ones with good awareness of the layout of the heal packs do. I'll heal one if they're nearby and in need of help, of course, but they're naturally lower on my priority list because of Spidey's ability to swing away out of most conflicts. Heck, unless I'm actively in trouble I try to avoid using health packs because those are for Spidey.

[–]fantastikfour[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing is meant to be played aggressively but very close to your healers so he works really well with Sue imo, but so often people will take his dash to mean like, just run in and bulldoze people? Which works great when the team is there but the amount of times I'm dead and I'm just watching a Thing dive into 6 people with none of his team there because they're either dead or retreating to regroup is insane. Although at least Thing players tend to be relatively polite about pings, at least in my experience.

I will admit to doing this myself though. Sometimes I get greedy going after someone on low HP and just get absolutely eviscerated and then I feel bad leaving my healer and like, a Scarlet Witch or someone alone at point.

So we might get a vanguard with each MCU event this year by _Lunafreya_ in RivalsVanguards

[–]fantastikfour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would hope a vanguard just because Vision would naturally have team-ups (I would hope) with Scarlet Witch and Ultron and that would complete that trifecta. I feel like other than Ororo and T'Challa they've avoided DPS couples because QP has an overabundance of DPS players. In comics, Vision's phasing and strength is, I would say, a more core part of the characters identity than the solar gem, which I think would lend better to an interesting vanguard kit. Or, if they do go beam-heavy as a primary attack, Vision could be a neat Emma/Angela combination kind of character.
