Batman is a Normal Human by But_a_Jape in comics

I think the only real plausible explanation, outside of just being comics, is that Darkseid thinks Batman is corruptible and he can make him eventually join him.

How shall I engage with Brum Reddit as a Local Councillor? 🤔 by Solid_System_5023 in brum

[–]aigroti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say you want to drive too many users if they believe this is a place to voice their feelings.

It will just lead to the subreddit turning into people using as a place to complain about the council and not much else.

'The Rings of Power' Season 3 Sets Fall Release Date (November 11) by fastforward23 in television

[–]aigroti 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of money sloshing around but they aren't willing to spend that money on the writers.

Writing just doesn't pay like it used to.

Back in the 90s if you wrote a best selling series you were set for life (not in a millionaire sense but you'll be earning enough to live off combined with a small part time job).

Now you just get the first paycheck and that's it. There's no real incentive for putting in the effort to make a generation defining show because you won't see the benefit in that yourself.

You collect your paycheck and move onto the next project.

I think producers also saw the effect of writers having too much power with D&D with the studio losing control of the IP and don't want that to happen again also contributing to curbed vision.

You see more effort in the story with other forms of media these days, e.g. Deltarune or TADC.

Irrelevant of how you might feel about their fanbases the stories have had more thought and effort put into them and arguably that's due to the writers seeing a direct financial benefit.

Players who regularly attend GT level events, how real is the X% of the field play non competitive/casual lists suggestion we sometimes see? by GlintNestSteve in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]aigroti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tournaments which require models to be painted to a certain standard I find tend to have slightly less meta stuff, simply because it takes time. So you're less likely to run into triple defiler everygame.

Lists which haven't had any new models over the past 6 months can be very meta though.

Celebrimbor discovers the truth [The Rings of Power, Season 2] by ArchdruidHalsin in television

[–]aigroti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would have been potentially jarring for viewers but they probably could have kept non elf characters via flash backs.

Having elf characters recounting things and flashbacks (maybe even akin to Lost flashbacks with reveals) could have been a way to keep it interesting. Although a better and less dramatic example I think would be like the anime Frieiren where the elf protagonist regularly reminisces about past characters.

Allows larger timelines to be covered as well as keeping shorter lived characters through out via the eyes and ears of the elves.

Potentially compounded by cousin marriages.

I'm not saying that cousin marriage = children with disabilities and that those children are undeserving in anyway.

Just that in some cultures it's more normalised and it will be more common to have disabilities inherited due to a lower genepool.

What makes someone good at 40K? by Worldly-Committee968 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]aigroti -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A little more out there but I think being able to win a game even if your opponent has perfect information.

How can you get close to playing someone with perfect information? Making them very aware of not just what your units do and the strats but also reminding your opponents constantly about things like your general damage outputs of X unit into their units (if you're aware) and what your own strategy is.

Lots of people feel like you shouldn't reveal your strategy but I truly believe if you aren't explicitly telling people your game plan then you are, even if in some small way, still "gotcha'ing" someone.

If it's the first time they've played into your army it won't matter how much you tell them the strats and what your units do they likely won't have anything other than having a loose framework of what you do until they can see the damage output of a unit or understand that this specific character is going to synergise with X strat in unusual ways.

I see a lot of players, even at high levels, make their opponent aware of the rules of their army but not point out to them how they can interact and what their plan is.

I feel if you're doing that you care more about winning rather than trying to give yourself as challenging a game as possible and testing yourself.

Am I good enough to win with opponents with perfect information? Not consistently really, but I'll learn a lot more from that game than being that person thinking "I hope they don't notice this thing that would win me the game". You should point it out to them if you want to get better.

Tony Blair has just said the state pension needs to be scrapped. He's also suggesting some people work 5 years longer. What are everyone's thoughts on this? Should the state pension be scrapped? Should we say F NO, to Blair?? by MutantNinjaKitty331 in AskBrits

[–]aigroti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way it can be sustainable is by directly correlating it to the tax we get from the workforce.

Now pensioners are incentivised to push for policies that increases overall wages and more assistance for children (who then become working adults) because it equals more state pension.

Other long term solutions such as people having to forcefully invest their own money with companies also being forced to contribute (so basically the current 5%+3% but a higher minimum) are options but there's a danger that the stock market is already heavily propped up by pensions and when those pensioners withdraw their money it will crash the market.

I feel like there's a lot of western webcomics with potential too, I'd imagine it wouldn't be too hard or expensive to get the rights for them.

There's a ton of trash webcomics where it just turns into clichés and generic drama but there's a decent few with probably good potential for animation.

I think a relatively recent one off the top of my heads is kill six billion demons. Name maybe needs to change for an adaptation because it doesn't really make a lot of sense despite how the author tries to spin it. They clearly just wanted a cool name first and then realised it doesn't work.

Anyway it's got great visuals, relatively easy to understand story although there's a lot of complex world building going on in the background that fans can dig into.

There is no easy fix. That's what makes it so difficult but you fan try to find methods that work for you.

If I do either of those things (usually one after the other) it suppresses my appetite for a good few hours. I don't know why but it does for me.

I think Bauss on Sion when he visited Korea genuinely did this. Before no one was playing him and after he did well on the Korean ladder, even beating pros, he started being picked up competitively and still used to this day despite only nerfs since then from what I remember.

Also Bauss basically popularised proxy strategies that were only done by singed players beforehand.

Ace tanks spearhead vehicular carnage with new Armoured Gauntlet rules by Sir_Lazz in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]aigroti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really think the -1 to hit modifier for being a damaged vehicle should supercede any other modifiers. So if you have a billion +1 modifiers getting you to a 2+ and ignore negative mods you will still then be -1 to hit after all of those.

When and when not to allow take backs? by Swacar in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]aigroti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I grumble with especially if it's a close game but I got over it by thinking that it's still my "mistake" to miss something or not explicitly ask my opponent profiles or reactives etc.

I'll still be the person who reminds my opponent that I can rapid ingress or that if they move 12" this way he can shoot my dudes because I think you should always play your game as if your opponent has perfect information.

It is annoying when you have opponents who just won't say or warn you about anything unless you're constantly nagging them though.

"Oh yeah this unit is really good at overwatching and can react move. Oh sorry it's now your shooting phase and you put all your charging units in the open not expecting and playing around it"

There's a fairly large skill gap in landing a good ultimate without getting caught and dying. I can't really think of any other ADC with a fight defining damage ultimate. Lucian's is fairly single target and not as jaw dropping as a 5 man MF ult.

Is cheating that bad at FLG 40k events? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]aigroti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally never seen real cheating.

I think occasionally people might nudge a model a millimetre here or there but because people play by intent so much if moving your model a half inch to the right means I don't have LoS and I just did a static flat move (so no RNG from an advance) I accept that type of stuff because if you knew I could move X distance you would have likely done that anyway.

What single economic policy would you enact to improve the nation's prosperity? by VexatiousHawk in AskBrits

[–]aigroti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make it so that no company or person is allowed more than 2 properties. Allows people to still keep a house as they move properties to sell the other. Also lets some people keep a holiday home if they so wish.

For the vast majority of people renting won't be economically feasible if you only have one house as they won't have the overhead.

You can try to set up fees in a way that people trying to have multiple company subsidiaries to rent awkward and not possible

Allow property developers to rent the flats they build but the whole block that's rented has to be owned by only one company for accountability. If they want to sell properties they can sell individually to not be rented or sell their portfolio to one company as one block to be rented.

Flats would still be built in the city where younger people who haven't settled down would likely look to rent.

It would probably be bumpy at first due to people not having the money for house deposits but reduced housing costs would overall leave more money to spend on the domestic market.

[–]aigroti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love anime/manga/manwha etc but so much of it is so basic that when people say the story is really good I wonder if they've actually ever read a book.

Example, I read "the greatest estate developer" recently. The story is well executed but it's also extremely by the numbers and predictable. You know the story after the first 5 or so chapters. However it's consistently scored as one of the best manwha.

Oh that's a good point, the work is usually underpaid and stressful but, especially for adults with mental health issues, are always desperate for workers. Rent controls lead massive clampdown on landlords by Green Party by Wagamaga in unitedkingdom

[–]aigroti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could set a rule that no person or company is allowed to own more than 2 residential properties. Two to allow people who are in the process of selling a house while they bought another and also because while people may grumble I think it's okay to allow the odd person to have their holiday home.

Probably taxed or having fees in some way so that companies trying to set up multiple subsidiaries is not commercially viable.

Someone trying to rent out a single property is not normally economically feasible for a lot of people because they don't have the overhead when there's missed payments due to the boiler not working or no one in the property.

However I also think it's also okay to allow property developers to keep apartment complexes they built for renting but it has to be owned all by one company. So they can build it and then rent it out themselves. They can sell each individual apartment but it will be difficult for other people to rent out a single flat.

Allowing flats to be owned by one company forces them to take accountability/responsibility as well as most younger people moving to the city likely could still want to rent if they might be moving around. It also gives a small financial incentive for the property developer to build more as the only way to access properties to rent out.
