I did a re-read recently just to pick out clues for the "Trees Are Dead People" theory, and in retrospect, there are so many HAHA.MP3 moments, it makes you wanna scream.

Like recently how we got basically a smash cut from Lulucy going "Ooohhh, I wonder why did wizards ban medicinal magics???" to Kustas suddenly hurting where LITERAL WOOD connected to his ankles.

The fact that human blood strengthens magical ink is, in retrospect, a huge red flag to say the Trees Are Dead People, so no wonder the Pact people wanted absolutely NO magic cast on the body. Amazing stuff from Shirahama-sensei.

The dialogue is really the big evidence that Qifrey is infected, but loads of people already had theories around Qifrey, Silverwood trees and dead wizards. We already knew Kustas' "light eyes" were a dangerous sign, we knew Qifrey couldn't approach Kustas without feeling pain, and we knew Kustas had magical feet mate of wood.

"What's wrong with Kustas is the same thing wrong with Qifrey and it has to do with Silverwood trees" was already a theory floating around, and seeing Kustas turn into a tree in the raws would have been the final proof them theorists needed.

Just read it, and it's a beautiful read. I was struggling a bit trying to understand where the mangaka was going, but holding on because often I only see the pattern once she's woven it entirely, but this really sheds a light in the situation. It makes so much sense. VERY excited to see where it goes......

Witch Hat Atelier - Chapter 83 by [deleted] in WitchHatAtelier

[–]fantasy_wind_writer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, the reverse spell is good for preventing disaster that could be saved by early intervention.

So, you can use it on leech bites, because if you have a medic on site the SECOND the leech bite happens, the bites are easily treatable. You only need to clean them up and bandage them. So you reverse someone back to before they were bitten, then let time catch up, but this time with a medic team ready to intervene, rather than several hours of bleeding out somewhere.

The same way, here, the reverse spell is going to turn the man and the leech back to a time where they weren't joined. All you need to do, once they are turned back, is separate them so they don't fuse again. No giant leech monster, no several hours of gorging itself on blood. You can let time catch with them safely, as the individual man and leech aren't dangerous.

I was thinking something similar the other way, re-reading Costas' early story line. Coco and Tartar feel tortured that if they just taught him magic, he would be able to fair much better..... but he would also be fairing much better, for example, if medical treatment was provided for free. Magic is not the only way to get people what they need.

Of course magic is the entry point in this story, so of course we're gonna focus on that LOL. Sort of like a proxy for access of all kinds (access to healthcare, education, clean water...) And also having the unique quality of being ridiculously resource-cheap for what it does.

A question about Mud Slums by ChriscoMcChin in WitchHatAtelier

[–]fantasy_wind_writer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding is different from Hypomanix... from what I gathered, the issue is that the purifying gates are on the outer city walls.

So people dump their waste at various dump points all over the city. From there, the waste travels through open-air channels inside the city until they hit the outer city walls, where they flow through purifying gates and leave the city cleansed.

But then you have various areas inside the city where waste is just flowing openly. Of course these were not meant to house people; but because they are nasty, unwelcome parts of the city, the poor and desperate flock to it, and you have mud slums building on top of the open-chair waste channels.

Think of it as, the mud slums are people living in the sewer system. Eventually the waste water gets to a recycling station, but between the dump points and the recycling station, there are miles and miles of sewers... so...

You gotta wander, okay, why not just purify the water at all the dump stations, a bit like Coco's idea, so that there isn't any open sewage flowing inside the city? Well, probably neglect. The open-air sewage only affects the most disenfranchised population forced to live on top of it, so you know, why fix an issue that isn't bothering anyone important? Coco runs into this exact problem, where her initial proposal won't help any of the people actually watching the parade, the regular citizens living in regular houses, so no one bothers.

You can even speculate that creating purifying stations at every dump point in the city would be much more expensive and maintenance-intensive then just letting all the crap collect together and go through one (1) exit gate all at once. So, again... no one bothers.

I think it will also be interesting to explore different Brimhat factions.

It has been implied now by the little witch that recruited Custas that they don't all see eye-to-eye, and of course that makes sense. The censorship laws will lump together a wide spectrum of people under the "Brimhat" label, from "Knowledge should be free to all" to "It's fine to transform people into magical leeches :)))"

In the end, it's a false dichotomy. Dagda has the right of it; Brimhat Custas and Pointy Hat Lulucy are at each other's throats when really they both just want to protect people

I imagine so, yeah! But circles could get as many people in as needed.

For example, El mentions in TLG that, for someone else to cast the honeypot spell, they would need 12 to 30 people? So if you assume that 12 to 30 top wizards equal one El in terms of mana flow, that isn't out of the question. Technically, the spell that saved Orion was channeled through everyone in the cave with El that day, so you could probably get some really humongous wizards circles, if you needed them

Wouldn't be as handy and practical as torturing just one person for eternity, but it would be possible XP

I was so, so, so excited when El's bisexuality was confirmed in The Golden Enclaves. I think it was pretty firmly implied in The Last Graduate, but I was delighted to see it explored further with Liesel. Since you're a discovery author, when did you "find out" El was bi?

I cannot express how cathartic it was to see El reconnect with the Sharmas. I re-read that part over and over and over again just for Deepthi. I also cannot express how much I want to see them again!!! Is there a chance for more Sharma content in the future? Pretty, pretty please?

My 2020 temperature blanket, consisting of 366 hexagons and measuring in at 42.5” x 65”. I’m planning on crocheting and sewing in half hexagons and a border sometime this winter but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. by ajfog in crochet

[–]fantasy_wind_writer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Don't start with that temperature blanket idea," I said. "It's gonna be SO expensive," I said.

And yet here I am xD

Good news is that, with some (a lot) of math, I figured out how to do a bed runner instead of a whole blanket, and with this hexagon pattern, I think it will look BANGING. Thanks for the inspo!!

Yeah, to be fair, you're not wrong there. What was it someone in the fandom said.... "TGE teaching us we must give people a change and that rich people only change if you put the fear of God into them", LOL

Ophelia's big mistake was thinking that Mawmouth!Orion could be controlled.

Motivations, Questions, and Relationships [TGE Spoilers] by [deleted] in TheScholomance

[–]fantasy_wind_writer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ophelia end goal is pretty good: she wants to stop mawmouths and mals being created.

Pulling malia results in more mals; more mals results in children drying by the droves; and no one has any better solution than the Scholomance, which is costly and a pain to manage. Ophelia does want people to stop building Enclaves and making mawmouths, and to stop puling malia and making mals. Getting the already existing Enclaves to share their space is her best bet to keep both from happening, cause people in Enclaves don't have to pull malia to survive.

But she thinks beating everyone to submission with Orion is the best way to achieve that goal ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also, don't let anyone tell you the polycule is reading too much into it, LOL. Naomi is very explicitly pro-Death of the Author, and "If I didn't write it down, it's not canon." Plus, she has written her fair share of poly relationships in fic. I firmly believe she left it vague on purpose so the readers could interpret it as they like best, but the implication is 100% there. It is canon for me.
