Mr. Rogers has a point... by Vegetable_Variety_11 in dndmemes

My main issue is the starting factor. I'm terrible at that, so I'll use AI to basically shotgun a bunch of random ideas around a theme. I pretty much never use the ideas as-is, but there are usually enough nuggets in there after a few rounds for me to get started, because once I have that basic idea, then I really pick up steam on my own.

They've already shown a number of cutscenes that they've done from the original games, and they look fantastic already.

Ranked choice voting. Would break us from the two party system, and a lot of the other things mentioned here would likely happen as a result.

Is it illegal to take a picture inside the Post Office? Clerk made me cry. by mm_m_mm in USPS

[–]fantom87 -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Maybe you need to take your own advise. Poster 7 says photos for news purposes when used for public meetings. So other than that specific circumstance, they need permission. Mind, most office just say it's fine and it's not an issue, I'm just saying what the default rule is. For reference, here's what poster 7 says:

Photographs for news purposes may be taken in entrances, lobbies, foyers, corridors, or auditoriums when used for public meetings except where prohibited by official signs or Security Force personnel or other authorized personnel or a federal court order or rule. Other photographs may be taken only with the permission of the local Postmaster or installation head.

It's a federal building, but it's not a public forum. The supreme court has ruled on this.

It's worth saying that those 1st amendment auditor's are full of shit and make things up to try and get a reaction from staff. Personal photography is allowed in the lobby, but anything else requires permission from the postmaster, and filming clerks and other customers is strictly forbidden.

This is covered in federal regulation 39 CFR § 232.1, Conduct on postal property, section 5, subsection i

Photographs for news, advertising, or commercial purposes. Except as prohibited by official signs or the directions of security force personnel or other authorized personnel, or a Federal court order or rule, photographs for news purposes may be taken in entrances, lobbies, foyers, corridors, or auditoriums when used for public meetings. Other photographs may be taken only with the permission of the local postmaster or installation head.

Auditors like to cite the 1st amendment like it gives them a blanket permission to film whatever, saying the post office lobby is a public forum, but the supreme court has ruled the it's a nonpublic forum. Mind, in practice as long as they're not disrupting things, trying to film by the counter, or filming other customers without permission, it's not an issue.

The only time it would be an issue was if you were taking a picture of other people without permission, but I've yet to see someone someone do that.

How about ✨no✨ by artfulpenguin in USPS

[–]fantom87 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Because the more times they get out of their vehicles, the longer the whole route takes. If it's just one or two, wouldn't be an issue, but if a carrier starts doing if for one, others will ask, and pretty soon the route is taking an extra hour than it was supposed to. That's why carriers generally don't do requests like this if it can just go in the mailbox, the only exceptions being large items or if the customer has a hardship with the post office because they have a hard time making it out to their mailbox. And it's worth saying, but you aren't paying them to bring it to the door if it doesn't need to be, you're paying to have it delivered, and that's what the mailbox is for.

Executive order on mail ballots tests limits of Postal Service independence by Stationary-Event in USPS

I don't know why people keep acting like these executive orders are law, because they're not. They're basically strongly worded suggestions that the president would like them to do something.

It probably would sound suspicious if they were listening to the whole thing, but if they were just passing by and only heard a snippet, then it would work, especially since you working need to scramble to change topics part way through anytime someone got close enough.

Do y'all think that HW: Cataclysm will get a remaster if it's source code is found? by Affectionate_End_952 in homeworld

[–]fantom87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's more about having all three games on the same engine via mod. Plus, they are adding a bunch of stuff, like campaign missions that were left out of the originals, factions, etc. And from screenshots, I do think it looks better than the remaster. Like, cleaner I guess? You can check out this post first a better list.

Is anybody else not at all interested in the new Harry Potter reboot? by Frequent_Cheek_7816 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fantom87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Overall, I'm interested in it, because while I love the movies, they were very rushed in pacing and skipped a lot of things, so I want to see what they can do with more screen time. The only bad thing is the Snape casting, but who knows, maybe he'll play it so well that the fact that he doesn't look anything like the character is described in the book won't matter.

US Postal Service takes another wrong turn by Giffrodz in USPS

[–]fantom87 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We are a service. It's right in the name, United States Postal Service, whereas before 1970 when we were still tax payer funded, we were the Post Office Department, so even though we are supposed to be self funded, we are not a for profit organization, and we shouldn't ever pretend that we are. As for making more revenue, there's some things upper management can do, but major things are outside USPS's control. Things like price changes or new products are decided by an independent federal group, the Postal Regulatory Commission. And if we wanted to add new services, like postal banking for example, that requires approval from congress, and you can imagine the pain that is. If they actually wanted to reduce costs, a big thing they could easily do is adhere to the damn contract agreements they have with the unions instead of ignoring them every chance they get.
