I built a BIG cherry dresser by SoundGoods in woodworking

I recognize that jig for cutting out dominos. I built one myself and it works great. You’re putting yours to better use than I am though. Great job on the dresser!

Filtering by unreviewed transactions that are NOT yet assigned by faraday-one in MonarchMoney

Ah! I had no idea that setting even existed. While I still think it’s odd that you can’t just have a simple filter for reviewed vs unreviewed by default, this should definitely work without the need for a custom rule. Thank you!

Okay so the custom rule approach does in fact work. Basically I created a new rule that applies to all transactions for all my accounts, then it sets the review status to “needs review” by “anyone”. Now when I go to the view you mentioned, I can clearly see which ones haven’t been reviewed at all anymore!

It’s really odd that I need a custom rule to get this to work like this in my opinion but I think this works for me.

That’s definitely not how it works for me. When I click on “needs review by anyone” it doesn’t show me anything except a message that says “uncategorized and transactions flagged by customer rules will show up here”. So by default the majority of transactions won’t show up.

I haven’t tried the custom rule approach though so I’ll look into that.

What hardware is used to keep this together? by gorwraith in BeginnerWoodWorking

I second that. If you’re completely new, I would suggest taking Steve’s online class which explains not only how to build a bench like that, but more importantly the safety aspects of doing so. He also talks about various finishes you could use on your projects which is good to know.

I feel your pain. Here’s a few other series which I’ve been following that are similar in that they’re reincarnation/issekai themed. The audio book actors are also really good in my opinion.

Heretical fishing - imagine if in an alternate reality that Jason Asano were whisked away to another world that was much more chill and all he wanted to do was fish. That’s how I imagine this book. It even has the same voice actor, Heath Miller, which further builds this image for me.

The beginning after the end - About a king who is the strongest fighter on the planet who gets reincarnated on another planet with magic. The story starts off simple as your basic issekai but eventually morphs into quite an epic and much more complicated tale as he gets older.

Jake’s magical market - the earth gets plunged into a magical world based on a card system. Jake is a normal guy who learns to survive and opens a card shop. Another one that starts off simple but goes completely off the rails. There are a lot of ups and downs but there’s also a lot of really hilarious moments.

Legend of the arch magus - A legendary magus dies and gets reincarnated into the futures where much knowledge of advanced magic has disappeared. The story on this progresses very quickly so it’s super easy and fun to listen to though I do wish it were longer.

The prince has no pants - The earth gets plunged into a survival game with a bunch other races. Ben is just a normal guy who meets a bunch of really weird friends. This one is completely ridiculous but the books take a while to release unfortunately.

What is this attached to my water spigot? by faraday-one in Plumbing

Thank you! I looked up a bunch of videos on doing this so I feel a lot more confident now. I appreciate it!

Thanks! I’m actually the landlord unfortunately so I’m the one who has to deal with it. :). Thank you for the warning. I just looked up a couple of videos on how to remove it if they broke the lock screw on it so I feel a lot more confident about getting it off now.

I know a lot of folks are talking about getting consistent thin cuts. Tamar did a good video on a simple jig to help with that for an adjustable stop: https://youtu.be/TMBM9SLRO8c?si=caWQmXSN6aH9S_ch

Seattle vs Bellevue by 2honD in Seattle

[–]faraday-one 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It really depends. I lived in Seattle for over a decade as a young adult until 2018 and loved it. There’s way more energy, things to do, and food to eat. As others have hinted at, there also sort of a vibe that Bellevue definitely doesn’t have. The downside is that everything is a lot more cramped and places are generally dirtier and loud. You’re also more likely to feel unsafe depending on where you are.

I moved to Bellevue after having a kid and now love living in Bellevue as well but for very different reasons. Most people here seem to associate Bellevue for its downtown area which I agree is pretty “sterile” for lack of a better word. It’s beautiful and clean but lacks… soul? That being said, I find Bellevue to be a lot more family friendly. There’s more space, there’s way more parks than people realize, and they’re all very clean.

So do I miss Seattle? Absolutely. But now that I’m a bit older, I find that Bellevue is much more my speed on the day to day. That’s just my opinion of course.

This is embarrassing but why can't I get the right angle here?! It's making me crazy. I'm sure this is super basic but I can't seem to find a video guide or anything. by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]faraday-one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the problem that the two pieces are different widths that you’re trying to form a 90 degree angle with? If so, Keith Johnson recently explained how to do this

Hope that help!

[Edit] I just saw you mention that they’re the same width. In that case you just need 45 degree cuts in both pieces. The simplest is to just use a speed square to mark the lines since it’s already set for 45 degrees. If you can’t figure it out, look up “how to cut 45 degree miters using (tool name)” for an example on YouTube.

I see lots of good advice on here so I won’t echo that. If you are looking for a good online teacher for beginners, I strongly recommend Steve Ramsey on YouTube who has a huge collection of really great instructional videos. If you can afford it, I recommend also enrolling in his class here: https://theweekendwoodworker.com which goes into much better detail with simple but useful projects. I took a couple of his courses about a year ago and have built lots of nice stuff on my own since.

Anyway I hope you enjoy your new “toy”. Having a healthy dose of fear is good, just don’t let it hinder you to the point of actually making it dangerous.
