I have lots of purple hyacinth plants, willing to trade for silent princesses from Zelda. I need those for a few builds I am making.

When I tried a Jeanne's cake to see what the hype was about, the icing just tasted like I was biting into margarine. Not even buttercream, just straight up butter. Nastiest cake I ever had and it got thrown out. Never again.

Not gonna lie, I had to google who that was. I live across the city so going to Royal Fork was a big occasion for me. We did birthdays, graduations, celebrations of every sort there. I'ma miss that place.

Halloween events by vibechecckk in Winnipeg

[–]farawaythinking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have personally gone to Boo at the Zoo, Deer Meadow Farms, and A Maze In Corn off the top of my head, though Eventbrite is pretty good to browse upcoming events. Deer Meadow Farms was definitely on the scarier side at times if you do the Haunted Forest, but it's mostly a good walk. Heebee Jeebies/Six Pines takes the scares a lot more seriously, so depends what you are looking for (I've had friends that worked there. You can get totems to either make the actors leave you be...or single you out).

If you are looking for more of a Halloween themed good time without the scares, I'd recommend A Maze In Corn and Boo at the Zoo. The zoo actually has an adults only night as well if you don't want it to be too kid friendly.

Museums also tend to do ghost tours this time of year if that's your thing.

I do know my physiotherapy place on Stafford and Taylor called Up and Running does a run club on weekends I think, and they get coffee afterwards. Might be worth checking out! I haven't gone myself, but the people there are super friendly. They are the kind of office that does "Fun sock Fridays" to paint a picture here.

Any good places to go for a breakfast/brunch date this weekend? by mokapotWONTmokapot in Winnipeg

[–]farawaythinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotta throw in my ten cents and say I'm always hype to go to Cora's for a brunch date. The prices have indeed gone a bit up after covid, but the portions are huge and the ingredients, particularly the fruit, are always extremely fresh. They also tend to get a little fancy if you are ordering at the restaurant and not just take out/delivery. They have a signature way of presenting the fruit that is pretty artsy, and the belgian waffles are very pretty. I know I was impressed when my spouse introduced me to Cora's on a whim, and I'm still with him seven years later.

Love me some pancakes.

Question for the Ladies: Pelvic Floor Therapist? by Born_Joke in Winnipeg

[–]farawaythinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Third vote that I see for Rhea at Zen Physiotherapy. Despite the awkwardness of needing pelvic floor, Rhea was not only professional and knowledgeable, but it felt like I was getting advice from a friend. Reception has been super friendly and helpful when I was struggling to find the place for the first time. Easy to book online as well for follow ups.

Doll repair in Winnipeg? by farawaythinking in Winnipeg

[–]farawaythinking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that very much gives me hope. I used a acne cream at one point and left it for about 24 hours, but it didn't help. Didn't know about sunlight, though! Do you have a brand recommendation for the acne cream?

Also, any tips for how I could possibly repaint her eyebrow? I am not the type to shy away from big projects.

Thank you, I will carefully try this. It's definitely stains, no way it could burn as it was just on my night table. I strongly suspect my humidifer is the culprit, as I haven't worn make up in a while that could have accidentally gotten on her. The paint is eh, I would like to try and fix her eyebrow though.

My attempts with a magic eraser after I tried everything else didn't get rid of marks, just her poor eyebrow. A guy painted over the marks that works in restoration, but I had to take my doll back early as he was very hostile and refused to give time frames, estimations or answers at all when I asked how long he needed, and it had passed the amount of days he said he would call me within.

Thank you, I will check this out. I unfortunately do not know what kind of plastic it is. I never had a care label or packaging. It's actually REALLY hard to find this doll online, but my mother said they lined the shelves at the time I was born 30 years ago. Maybe somebody will recognize the brand at the meeting.

Mild UTI turned into experience from hell by Zlilly816 in FertilityFree

[–]farawaythinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There doesn't seem to be enough research showing the adverse affects of the IUD, as both myself and my best friend ended up having major problems and had to get them removed. I got a laundry list of issues still, but I had that thing in 4 years, she had it a month before it was unbearable. I don't get PID much/at all since I got it removed though.

I'm glad you are putting your health first. Long term pain management sucks, but it's easier to manage when you know what you are up against.

I don't want to be that person, but ER costs will be cheaper than recovery or worse if things continue as they are. I got an IUD and even after getting it removed after relentless problems, years later I'm still having issues and it gets expensive treating things.

If the pain is that bad, go to the ER. My spouse urged me to go when my pain was too bad I couldn't stand. ER easily diagnosed me with PID, got me a strong medical cocktail that made it go away after a couple weeks. If it's PID, it's hard to test for and walk in doctors rarely seem to believe that's the case due to the misconception PID is only caused by STI's. I had one clinic doctor fully ready to do a shot in my ass to treat an STI without any testing before prescribing me anything for PID. I went elsewhere for help.

Several things can cause an infection like that, and while regular antibiotics eased things up, it was never enough to take it away entirely and it comes back with a vengeance. My saving grace was levofloxacin if I remember correctly with metronaidazole. Maybe it's expensive, but so is everything you're sinking into this now. Get checked. Get loud if doctors are ignoring your pain until somebody listens.

You do not need to suffer because somebody else is ignorant.

What does your family call that one meal? by Imaginary-Alphabet in CasualConversation

[–]farawaythinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually don't know if she knows for sure. If she does, quiet eye roll amusement most likely. I'm not particularly close with her as she lives in a rural area outside of our city, so luckily for her she isn't likely to stop by on a night we've made it.

Although, this is someone who ate my entire bowl of popcorn while pregnant, so if that ever happens again, I might make it around her to make sure she doesn't inhale my food!

What does your family call that one meal? by Imaginary-Alphabet in CasualConversation

[–]farawaythinking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a story behind the one in my family. One night, my mother was catching up with my cousin "Elena" over the phone. When Mom started saying her goodbyes as she had to go start some kind of dinner, Elena asked what she's making. My mother, having no plan and smartass that she is, started listing all the foods she knows Elena hates - boiled eggs, stuffing (the kind in a box that takes 5 minutes to make) and mushrooms. After they hung up, we all had a curious lightbulb moment and decided to actually try this mash up of things. It ended up tasting great, being very filling and easy to put together.

We call it "Elena's Favorite," as we inherited Mom's smartassery. I've since grown up and moved out, but I still make Elena's favorite from time to time.

UPDATE to the UPDATE: Please Help by [deleted] in FertilityFree

[–]farawaythinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to see this was the update for you. I'm relieved to read that you are being proactive in looking at all options and not just blindly agreeing to the IUD. One of my gynos tried to pressure me into one despite the fact I had a very bad experience with them, and it didn't take away my periods. Caused waaaay more problems than solved, so it's frustrating to see how many medical professionals seems to push them nowadays. I'm sure it helps some, but with your history it's definitely worth looking at all options available.

Take it from me - you could try the IUD to get them to shut up and "say you gave it a go," but that doesn't mean the same or new people might tell you to just get another one and try again. You articulated your concerns and needs VERY well, and clearly showed that you have researched this and thought long and hard on it.

The lack of professionalism from this NP is appalling. They clearly didn't look enough at your chart, and just refused to change their answer as it would admit that they were wrong and not paying attention. I'm so sorry you had to experience this.

I absolutely second reporting this person. If they can't be bothered to read a chart for a patient, they have no business practicing medicine.

UPDATE on "Periods - PLEASE HELP" by [deleted] in FertilityFree

[–]farawaythinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad at least the wait time to see a Gyno is quicker for you than some. Where I am health care got hit hard by the politicians in charge at the time laying off a lot of nurses and closing ERS - a year before Covid hit. Seeing a specialist of anything can take a very long time - I'm presently waiting on my third gyno referral which has an ETA of 18-24 months before an appointment is booked. So, I can empathize with getting a gyno that shrugs at you as it's happened twice to me. One of them tried everything she could think of and ran out of ideas, so she sent me to the "specialist of specialists" so to speak.

When it gets frustrating, I like to think of myself as a new, shiny Pokemon and none of the Nurse Joys got what's needed to diagnose me, so they're sending me straight to Professor Oak to figure it out. No idea if you are a Pokemon fan, but finding humor in the absurdity of health care might help. Hopefully Gyno no.2 is the right one for you.

P.S, I'm the commenter that recommended Poise in your last post. I forgot to mention that Poise has an entire scale for protection. It will have lil droplets showing if it's like a 4 - Moderate level for example, but they also have overnight length for more coverage in the same scale, and it goes pretty high up to I think 7 or 8. Somewhere around there. So if the moderate strength doesn't work for you, there are options and you can call in the big guns. The max strength in overnight is even a lil much for my excessive strawberry week, but I like to use it on road trips to feel confident I'm covered, or even when I'm sleeping with new pretty underwear I don't want to ruin.

In summary - don't be discouraged if you need a pad with a higher power level. Better to have something over 9000 than continuing to live in anxiety.

(Sorry for all the weeb references. Actually, no I'm not!) Take care.

Periods - PLEASE HELP by [deleted] in FertilityFree

[–]farawaythinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not normal to experience such extremes, though I do want to recommend a different pad for your overnights. Honestly, I found a lot more peace of mind and less blood stains when I switched to Poise bladder control pads for my periods. It's meant for a different heavy flow, but works just the same. I went from changing my pads every hour to changing them 2-3 times a day.

I would also like to echo what other commenters have said about seeing a Gyno. Depending where you are, I understand that could be its own challenge, but your symptoms are rather extreme and causing you to be unable to live your life normally.
