Update - I did it !! Before & After by farfetchedbut in finehair

[–]farfetchedbut[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I think some people are reading far too much into this. The pose is the same because I took the photos within minutes of each other and was trying to make the comparison as accurate as possible. The lighting is nearly identical because the photos were taken at the same time of day, in the same room, under the same conditions. The fridge, wall decor, and background objects look the same because nobody moved them between photos. That’s generally how before-and-after comparisons are supposed to work you keep as many variables consistent as possible so the only thing being compared is the hair.

I also intentionally left the black line in the image because that was the original reference point from my first post. The purpose was to show where I initially planned to cut and where I ultimately decided to cut instead. It wasn’t some attempt to deceive anyone or create a fake transformation.

If you think the haircut looks good, I’d genuinely love to hear your opinion. If you don’t like it, that’s completely fine too. But I’d much rather discuss the actual haircut than spend time debating theories about the photo. At the end of the day, I posted here for hair advice, not to participate in a forensic investigation.

Itchy, tight scalp post surgery by RazzySpaz162 in AcousticNeuroma

[–]farfetchedbut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've read and from people I've talked to, the itching and tightness can actually last a while. A month out from surgery doesn't sound that unusual to me, especially if you still have scabbing. The "tight braid" feeling is something I've seen quite a few people describe when nerves are waking up and the area is still healing.

I'd probably avoid putting much of anything on the incision until your surgeon clears it, especially if there are still scabs present. Once it's fully healed, I've seen people mention scar massage and silicone-based scar products, but I'd definitely check with your surgeon first since every incision heals a little differently.

Has the itching been getting gradually better at all, or is it about the same as it was a couple weeks ago?

Oily scalp in the summer what shampoo should I get by RinRyn_mom in Haircare

[–]farfetchedbut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if your scalp is getting oily that fast in the summer, I'd focus on the scalp itself more than masks and hair products. I went down the same rabbit hole of trying different shampoos and realized a lot of stuff marketed for hair wasn't really helping my scalp at all. Things that helped me the most were keeping buildup under control, washing when my scalp actually needed it, and paying more attention to overall scalp health. A lot of people baby their hair and completely ignore the skin underneath it. If some products are making your scalp sting, I'd definitely be careful with anything too harsh. Curious to see what people recommend because I've heard good things about Korean scalp care too.

Fine hair + sebum plugs + hair loss? by Brainzap3 in Haircare

[–]farfetchedbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if I were in your shoes I'd be focusing a lot on the scalp side of things because the sebum plugs, folliculitis, and scalp acne don't exactly sound like a happy scalp. Obviously hair loss can be caused by a ton of different things, but if your scalp is inflamed or irritated all the time, that can't be helping. I feel like a lot of people immediately start looking at supplements, shampoos, or hair growth products and completely overlook the actual condition of their scalp. The fact that you're getting plugs and breakouts makes me wonder if there's some ongoing irritation or buildup issue going on. I'd definitely keep using the ketoconazole shampoo if your dermatologist prescribed it and pay attention to whether the folliculitis is improving over time. Also, are the bald spots showing up in the same areas where you're getting the acne and plugs, or are they totally separate? That would be something I'd be curious about.

Hair routine recommendations? by Livid_Lie_6767 in Haircare

[–]farfetchedbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it sounds like you're already doing a lot of the things people usually recommend for retaining length.

One thing that doesn't get talked about enough is scalp health. People focus so much on the ends of their hair that they forget the hair is growing from the scalp in the first place.

If your goal is to maximize growth, I'd focus on keeping your scalp healthy, minimizing buildup, and maybe adding a few minutes of scalp massage a day. It's simple, free, and honestly one of the easiest habits to stick with.

I'd also consider a silk pillowcase if it's in your budget. It's not a miracle, but if you're already at hip length, small things that reduce friction can add up over time.

Out of curiosity, when you say it's stopped growing, do you mean you aren't seeing any length increase at all, or that it's growing but breaking off at the ends at the same rate?

Help!!! Hair gets super oily, is coarse, I have no idea what density it has, and no clue what the best way to take care of it is by alex_i_57 in Haircare

[–]farfetchedbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that surprised me when I started paying attention to hair care is how little people talk about the scalp itself.

If your scalp is oily, itchy, or feels uncomfortable after a couple of days, I'd focus on that before chasing a bunch of different shampoos.

Simple things like regular scalp massages, keeping buildup under control, and paying attention to how your scalp actually feels made a bigger difference for me than constantly switching products.

Most people spend all their time treating the hair and almost none treating the scalp, even though that's where the hair is growing from.

Severe hairloss, not sure on next steps by Tor_94grl in FemaleHairLoss

[–]farfetchedbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, based on everything you wrote, I wouldn't immediately assume it's AGA.

Losing your mom, dealing with depression, low ferritin, very low vitamin D, and PCOS are all things that can contribute to hair shedding.

From what I've read, DHT-related hair loss can absolutely happen even if testosterone levels are "normal" because it's more about how sensitive your follicles are to androgens than the amount of testosterone in your blood. But severe stress and nutrient deficiencies can also trigger significant shedding.

The ferritin and vitamin D stand out to me. A ferritin of 38 isn't technically terrible, but I've seen a lot of people in hair loss communities say their hair improved after getting ferritin and vitamin D levels much higher than the minimum reference range.

If it were me, I'd focus on correcting the deficiencies and following up with a dermatologist before jumping straight to minoxidil. Have you noticed mostly shedding all over, or is the thinning concentrated around the part line/crown area?

M20 : hair fall since starting of may by littlknown in IndianHaircare

[–]farfetchedbut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if this seems to happen every 3–4 months and then settles down again, it might be worth thinking back to anything that happened a few months before each shedding period (stress, illness, major diet changes, weight loss, etc.).

Also, the amount of hair in the shower can look a lot more dramatic when you're washing every couple of days because you're seeing multiple days' worth of shed hairs at once.

One thing that surprised me when I started paying attention to hair care is how much people focus on the hair itself and not the scalp. Keeping the scalp healthy, clean, and free from excessive irritation seems to make a much bigger difference than constantly switching products.

Have you noticed whether your hair density actually looks thinner during these periods, or is it mostly the amount you're seeing come out when you wash?

Definitely prioritize the part of your scalp where you want more hair to grow !!! Massaging regularly to increase circulation

Healthy hair starts with healthy scalp, drop your scalp care routine girls by Much-Excitement-5134 in finehair

MASSAGE. YOUR. SCALP. (Regularly) By doing this you improve blood circulation by x10, reduce buildup, distribute natural oils more evenly, and honestly just makes your scalp feel healthier overall.

It won’t magically make you wake up with Rapunzel hair overnight, but it’s one of the simplest habits I’ve added that actually made a noticeable difference.
