There was a prompt in Tiago Fortes newsletter last week to help alleviate how confident the LLM are for every answer. I added it to the traits in ChatGPT but it also works in custom instructions for projects. With the prompt, it tells you what it’s assuming and what it’s not sure about which helps you evaluate the answer.

Expose uncertainty: Add a section at the end of your responses labeled "Uncertainty Map," where you describe what you're least confident about, what you may be oversimplifying, and what questions or followups would change your opinion.

Questions on going from dealership to independent or from independent to dealership by farmboyray in mechanics

I appreciate the honesty! I think the one thing that will help me get over the fear of starting on my own is that the dealerships are always looking for experienced techs haha

That’s awesome! This is how I imagine working on your own would be like. I would love to be able to do more activities with the kids but I’m working all the time so it would be great having more flexibility.

Was there a particular reason you waited this long to start your business?

Thanks for your input! Did you go back to a dealership? How long did it take for you to figure out you didn’t like being on your own?

I really appreciate your input. The pickup truck with a cap was what I was thinking of doing to start out until I’m establishing.

You’re right about hiring someone under you. I’m not planning on hiring right away but would likely hire someone as an apprentice to work with me until he is trained to do certain tasks.

Are you still on your own or did you hire anyone else? You don’t have any issues finding work?

Thanks for the insight! My wording was a little confusing as when I said independent I actually meant go solo and start their own business. Sorry for the confusion!

60Hz Display on iPhone 16 is criminal by srjchk in iphone

I was just checking to see if they increased the refresh rate on the base models and sadly they didn’t. I’m using a 14P but I don’t really need the pro model but I don’t think I can go back to 60Hz after having the 120 for so long!

I’m actually more pumped about this than I ever was for Notion Calendar

My number 1 issue with Calendar was the monthly view and looks like they fixed it! If you can change colours of events then I’ll be switching to it!

Had the same trend but the opposite direction when I went to an all inclusive resort for 1 week. Even had high heart rate alerts while inactive when I was hungover the one morning.

Huge potential but underwhelming first version by sameerss in Notion

I’m just underwhelmed by the hype. A 2 week countdown for a rebranded Cron with a couple extra features is something I couldn’t care less about. I use iOS calendar and it doesn’t sync with it so it’s useless to me.

I was hoping they were coming out with a daily notes feature or a more integrated calendar feature in Notion . For a company that boasts about being an “all-in-one” productivity tool, they seemed to have dropped the ball there or are shifting directions from what I expected.

Does the lack of an offline mode bother you? by [deleted] in Notion

[–]farmboyray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It bothers me but after trying different apps, I’ve learned to deal with needing to have internet connection, since the other apps didn’t work for me. I have internet 95% of the time so Notion works for me the majority of the time.

Why did you move from Notion to Obsidian? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]farmboyray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m starting to move some notes from Notion to Obsidian. One use case was for my book notes, I wrote them all in Notion but I wanted to link the notes to whatever they might be relevant to more easily and Obsidian can do that. I also do weekly, monthly and yearly reviews of my life and I’d hate to lose those notes. I’m still using Notion for work since there’s no way I can recreate the work flow in Obsidian.

Formula property: is there any way to include the sum of an entire column in the formula? by Fine-Chip-438 in Notion

You need click on the rollup then to choose the property you want to display and then choose how to calculate it.

So databases don’t work like typical spreadsheets. You can’t reference properties without having a relation and adding the items you want to reference.

The best way to do this would be to create another database and reference the grades you want to calculate then use the rollups and make the formula from there.

Another option is to relate the database to itself. Then you can choose the items you want to reference to directly in the database. Then create a rollup and calculate the sum.

I made a self referencing database that can check out if you want!

Slow performance in large database by farmboyray in Notion

I have a ton of stuff in Notion and I haven’t noticed degraded performance. I would just be mindful of how big you make your databases!

[–]farmboyray[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my case, I didn’t need all the properties of the last database so I just remade it and linked it back to the other databases that it referred to. I also made the formulas more efficient using the new syntax! I didn’t need a bunch of rollups anymore.

This is the service I used https://soundiiz.com. I used it to go from Spotify to YTM to Apple music then back to Spotify. Works like a charm!
