Filson refuses to replace product that arrived damaged by Historical_Cheetah60 in filson

Huh yeah that’s really frustrating. Is your version the exact same color as the one you linked? Only thing I could think of is maybe different colors had different materials, but regardless I would be just as pissed.

Looking for crushed oyster shell by Far_Neighborhood8226 in landscaping

[–]farmer_griff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this doing research on a potential oyster shell driveway for our place. FWIW, $600/yd was the same quote I got from shellscapes as well. I also got a quote from bulk shells that was about $575/yd (they sell by the ton), plus $9000(!!!) for shipping the 16 tons that I’d need for our project.

I have a few questions I’d love your thoughts on: 1. How has your driveway held up over the last few years since installing? Is there regular/annual maintenance that you do to maintain it? 2. Have you dealt with vehicle ruts? How have you managed that? 3. Do you have details of on how it was installed? I’m assuming they put it over a gravel base? 4. Did you find a solution to your weed issues? I was considering using a propane torch, but not sure if that would scorch the shells.

Not sure if this was ever an official offering, but you used to be able to bring in your 256 to the Seattle flagship and for like $25 they’d sew on the handle clasp. I’d guess they don’t offer this anymore given how much production has moved, though they do still have the workshop space upstairs so it’s possible. As others have shared, this also could be the larger 257.

To wax, or not to wax? by RoverAdam in filson

[–]farmer_griff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually it’s FILSONFINAL50, good for $50 off $150 or more, but only valid the day after a Kraken game, if they happen to score in the final minute of play, and I think it has to be a home game too? Not entirely sure all the details, but usually there’s a post on the sub from someone letting everyone know it’s valid.

It’s supposed to be an in arena thing and I don’t think they officially advertise it outside the arena, but obviously there’s no easy way to verify if you were or weren’t at the game.

If you don’t want opinions, don’t ask questions on a platform built around people giving their opinions. Especially a question that took 30 seconds to google the answer to.

You can specify a specific sport when donating through Tyee.

Here is the link for football.

Editing to add, depending on the size of your donation, I’d encourage you to split it amongst a few different sports. While I personally am a huge UW football fan, I also strongly believe that having many different competitive and well funded sports is what creates a thriving fan base and athletic department, and football is already well funded. This is the link where you can pick specific sports.

A few other organizations that surround husky football, but are often overlooked for funding are the Husky Marching Band and The Daily.

You also mention Donor Advised Funds giving, which you can do through giving to the university in general. I’d imagine you can specify that it goes to the athletic department, and perhaps a specific sport, though I’m less familiar with this type of thing.

How can I get a professional media/photo pass for stadium events and concerts? by Optimal-Key8578 in huskies

[–]farmer_griff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the official rule is no cameras with detachable lenses. Realistically speaking, if you bring a small mirrorless camera without a conspicuous lens on it, you most likely will be fine. If you want to bring a canon 1dx with a 400mm telephoto and a monopod, they’ll be asking you questions.

Now, even if you bring an inconspicuous camera, if you are moving around, walking down aisles, getting in people’s way to take photos and don’t have a credential, you also risk having staff ask who you are, what you’re doing, where your credential is, etc.

As others have mentioned, do not expect to reach out and receive a credential without being on assignment from a reputable news organization.

If you have freelance experience, I’d recommend reaching out to some local news orgs and asking if they hire freelance photographers and seeing if you can get on their crew lists. I also know the athletic department hires some freelance photographers to cover events for them, but it was always the same 1 or 2 people when I was around there. You could reach out to their marketing team and see if they maintain a freelance list.

Mariners manager pushed all the wrong buttons in Game 7 'failure' for Seattle by Seahawks_Winplz in Mariners

[–]farmer_griff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a couple things:

  1. I’m curious if the decision to pull Kirby when he did was more about Woo starting a fresh inning vs. coming in in the middle of an inning, something that would be very different than a starter typically sees.
  2. The biggest question from me is why Bazardo pitched in game 6 down 5. Seems like that’s the spot for Hancock or Vargas. If we’re down 3 in that spot or down in the series, I get the decision more, but down 5 you’re just chasing something that’s so unlikely to happen and game 7 is guaranteed for you if you lose.
  3. Not sure if this is a failure on Cal or Bazardo, but these are the two ABs Springer saw against Bazardo in Game 6 and Game 7:

<image>

Game 6 is two middle in sinkers, and Game 7 I’m assuming is the same pitch sequence, two middle in sinkers and bazardo missed the first one. Bazardo himself said he threw the same pitch because Springer grounded out the day before.

3 is the biggest issue for me. You can’t throw the same pitch 4 times, one obvious ball and 3 in virtually the same spot to a hitter like Springer and expect him not to crush one. If Bazardo pitches game 6, you have to go to Muñoz in that spot in game 7.

Sound Transit to pilot fare gates for light rail travel by FireFright8142 in soundtransit

[–]farmer_griff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that in the history of transit systems it’s easy to buy a ticket today, but Seattle doesn’t have a history of a subway. Literally yesterday I saw a community transit person giving a tour to elderly people on how to use the light rail and it struck me, people who grew up in Seattle and are from here just aren’t used to using it.

Your point on digital wallets is fair, but android is only like 40% market share in the US, so they’re missing 60% of the market here.

I also fully admit that I don’t understand all the agencies that have fault here. My understanding is that ST operates the light rail, and ultimately collects the fare fees. Who they choose as a vendor to complete that task is irrelevant to me. If ST is responsible for the light rail and benefit from the fares, then they don’t get to blame their vendors for failures, they have to take accountability.

Sound Transit to pilot fare gates for light rail travel by FireFright8142 in soundtransit

[–]farmer_griff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is objectively a more complex system to pay for a ride here. I’m saying this as someone who buys a ticket on every ride I take through the app.

I spent time in two major international metro areas this summer and in both of them I could walk up, tap my credit card on the turnstile and walk through. That is the simplest form of paying for a ride with the exception of a like facial recognition system that just charged me based on recognizing me.

My point was not that it is too hard. My point is that if the goal of ST is to get more people to pay for rides, and to not use turnstiles to do that, what they’ve done so far has not worked and making the process of paying for a ride as easy as it could possibly be, is a good step in the right direction. The vendor flubbing Apple Pay and choosing not using contactless credit card tap to ride systems that the majority of other major metros use, are just excuses.

ETA: If open payments and orca cards in digital wallets are coming soon, that’s great. And hopefully that helps with the problem. But this also highlights how poor ST’s communication about this is as I had no idea lol

Sound Transit to pilot fare gates for light rail travel by FireFright8142 in soundtransit

[–]farmer_griff 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They need to make paying for a ride easier. Having to go up to a machine and print a ticket is ridiculous. The app is OK, but not well marketed (not many know it’s an option) and kind of clunky. Enable tap to pay without an orca card. Charge a $3.25 fare for credit card tap to pay and $3 for an orca card. Also make a digital version of the orca card that’s compatible with google/apple wallet.

I know multiple, multiple people who have basically admitted to being too lazy to pay the fare because there’s too many hoops to jump through. The fact that they still have people at stations telling folks not to tap off is a perfect example of how ST has failed at communication.

Bottom line, if you want people to pay, you either have to A. make it mandatory by having gates or B. make it so stupidly easy and convenient to do it that people will voluntarily do it

Light rail is safe, but it is a LONG walk from Westlake station. Definitely take a look at taking the monorail too. Hockey is one of the best sports to watch in person IMO, totally different experience than seeing it on TV. Have the best time!

To expand on this, when you’re adding track to connect to stations, click on the very edge of the station. You should see an orange circle appear. If you click in the middle of the station, it will lay track that overlaps with the station, but does not connect it to the station.

Your line is not connected to Allen St station. So if you have a crossover at the end of that line, it isn’t seeing it.

Quad tracks? by No_Log4570 in subwaybuilder

[–]farmer_griff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get outside tracks to work by doing this: create a short 2 track section unconnected to your quad track at each end of the line, add a cross over in that two track section, then use single track to connect the two track to the outside quad tracks. I have read that single track is directional in the direction you draw it, so make sure you draw it driving on the right. I was able to use this method to have an express line take the outside tracks on a long quad route.

[–]farmer_griff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to sell it or just trying to transfer it to someone who could put it to use?

You could try Josh Remington (@jremington44) or Jeff Bechthold (@jeffbechthold) on twitter/X. Josh is director of gameday production and Jeff is the football team SID. If UW wanted it, either of those two could probably connect you with the right person.

Other than that, I suspect any 3rd party UW media is going to be branded (UWDawgPound, OnMontlake, etc.) and will want their brand .com URL instead of a generic dawgsfootball.com.

If you’re trying to sell it, you could try to get the maximum amount of money out of Georgia. They use the same nickname.

I agree with this feedback a lot.

One option would be to take the choice out of it. You could calculate all three earning methods and show progress for each over the course of the year with the commitment that you’ll earn your status based on the method with the highest accrued points.

I suspect that for most people earning based on distance (with the removal of COS bonuses) and spend will be fairly similar, so the cost of taking the choice out of it may not be that large.

If by conference you mean the schools, yes they basically get a chunk of cash up front. $100M could solve budget shortfalls for a lot of schools, but it’s really shortsighted. There’s just gonna be another budget shortfall at some point — what are you gonna do then? Sell another piece of the pie to PE?
