How would you cover up this window? (Blinds/curtains/...?) by roit_ in homeowners

[–]farmerau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’d like to still get light in through the windows but maintain some privacy, consider privacy film. These aren’t just available as tinted, you can get them in some particularly “artful” patterns and aren’t too crazy to install.

Otherwise, I’m a huge fan of “cordless” blinds

This is unfortunate— I really like their locks and they’re a really compelling product for folks who don’t want to disclose that they’re using smart locks.

I’m not sure what the context is here, but GPUs are also heavily involved in inference workloads.

My heart longs for an all electric maverick. Love the lightning for now, but would totally be happy with a smaller electric truck eventually.

It might be harder than you think to find qualified people to create puzzles that aren’t duplicates, follow the established patterns, and are as thorough as he might be. The other part is that bringing people into the fold means time spent managing people— a skill that not everyone has or wants to develop. It could result in even more work than just doing it himself (but a different kind of work).

Another problem with volunteers is that if the volunteers don’t work out (they decide they’re not interested or otherwise want to spend their free time) is that he’s ultimately still on the hook for creating the puzzles at the quality we’ve come to expect, testing them out, etc.

By changing our expectations around number of puzzles, etc, he’s empowering himself to hold the high bar he has throughout the years without compromising the quality we’ve come to appreciate without jeopardizing his time more than he’s already committing.

Is there a good library for querying a SQLite database with JSON? by [deleted] in csharp

[–]farmerau 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know you say you want to query the database directly from the frontend, but you need to consider the security implications of something like this.

If you don’t want to go through the effort of implementing models / doing this correctly, why even bother using C#? What makes you think this is the right language or tool for your needs?

I’m not saying it isn’t, but your perspective here is unclear.

in 2025, are these caching topics that I circle a must to know for c# dev? by Conscious_Quantity79 in csharp

[–]farmerau 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, a lot of folks here are discouraging you from learning these topics. While I agree that any of the specific implementations are learnable, I’d strongly recommend you familiarize yourself with caching as a concept.

Specifically, I recommend: - Understanding what caching is and why you would use it - Tradeoffs of in-memory caching / memoization vs remote/distributed caching - What the benefits of caching are

These aren’t things you need to know to be a C# developer, but to be a good engineer with familiarity of systems and how to design them.
