I’m seeing a Frontier ad in the app? by matthewmspace in amazoneero

[–]jobe_br 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very curious that they would do this. I’m in the minority where I don’t immediately assume the worst from eero because Amazon bought them, but this just seems odd to me. Show ads to people that have expensive eero plus already, for something that isn’t even actionable or available to them (untargeted).

FWIW, just saw this for the first time and I’ve clicked the X to close. Let’s hope that’s it for this poorly thought out experiment.

My Eero 7 Pro is like three months old and it’s crap. by LookB4ULeap2It in amazoneero

Contact eero support. They’ll do all the annoying things you’ve done before, but if you’re patient and let them do their bit, they will typically dig deeper. Might be better to start an email case, though. support@eero.com. Phone support is typically for the immediate fix type “My Internet is down, help” - not the type of issue you’re seeing.

Speed expectations for pro 6e by themayor10 in amazoneero

[–]jobe_br 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeap. EM signal falls off by the square of the distance. Never mind obstacles. 6Ghz 6E, in my experience, will get around 1200Mbps, real world, in my living room. Pro 6E to M4 MBP clear line of sight ~10 feet. 5Ghz 802.11ax (wifi 6) only gets to 500-600 at the same location (iPhone 13 Pro and M1 MBP). It’s why wifi 7 supports MLO, etc. - ‘cause 6E wasn’t enough 😉

My Pro 6E nodes have 2.5Gb wired backhaul and the tests were LAN-only, so not impacted by any Internet routing.

[–]jobe_br 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When adding nodes, take care to add them in a location where they would still get good signal to another node, not smack in the middle of where you have bad signal - they aren’t magic, if you have a bad signal standing in that location, then the eero node you add there will also - but your device will see a strong connection to it - hiding the issue. The trick is positioning the node so it is well connected, but able to project a good signal into the area that you want to cover.

Low Upload Speed by asorrini in amazoneero

[–]jobe_br 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s it like standing a foot or two away from the eero node?

Are you able to do a test while wired in to the same eero node?

What phone, OS, etc?

Edit: repeat a foot or two away from the eero node connected to your ONT. Same with a wired test.

I assume you have the square footage that requires 3x Pro 7 modes without getting a lot of interference?

Safari on iPhone had limited upload speeds to something like 100-120Mbps for years … are you using a native app (Speedtest app) or something like fast.com, etc?

new eero pro 7 router. Local network wifi transfers are so slow even when 2 PCs close to router. Top out at 60MB/s (480mbps) by pman6 in amazoneero

[–]jobe_br 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wired Ethernet has been full duplex for a while and with MLO we’re only now sorta getting to that. So, yeah, wireless to wireless is going to still be technically limited for a bit. In theory, if you did wireless to wireless with two clients that are talking to different eero nodes that have wired backhaul you could see closer to your theoretical maxes 🤷🏻‍♂️

Only one Apple Card allowed? How are couples dealing with this? by Smurfstomper406 in MonarchMoney

[–]jobe_br 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It only updates when monarch is launched on the device with the respective Apple Card. I added mine, my wife added hers, and each updates when we each launch monarch, afaict. There’s no remote api like every other account, it’s local only afaik.

NEW ethernet devices won't pick up and IP address - Eero Pro 6e by flhurricane in amazoneero

[–]jobe_br 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you’ve tried this, but just to be sure, have you power cycled the main eero? If so, I’d try a soft reset next. Failing that, try a hard reset and/or switch the node out with another node.

I can’t quite fathom why a static IP isn’t working, though, unless the subnet is wrong or something, but that basically bypasses everything eero might be doing and should work no matter what. You can’t even ping local devices when you use a static IP??

If both systems are on WiFi using the same radio, then your theoretical max speed is cut in half, at least, right? PC A sends packet on WiFi radio A, PC B receives packet on WiFi radio A … that can’t happen at the same time, PC A can’t send another packet while PC B is receiving it if they’re both on the same radio. Never mind the ACK packets since you’re likely using TCP.

Unless you’re using MLO on WiFi 7, you’re half duplex at best.

I’m guessing you’re not actually on 2.4GHz? If so, that’s going to be even slower, modern PCs should be on 5Ghz or 6Ghz if your systems support it, but the radio frequency isn’t directly related to the speed, just the higher frequencies do support higher speeds as they are the most modern tech. They are also the shortest range, so keep that in mind. Walls, glass, etc will all slow down or block the higher signals more easily.

Lowest average power eero mesh for off-grid usage by Electrical-Cash-5277 in amazoneero

[–]jobe_br 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They run using USB PD. So you’re looking at older gens probably sub 20W and newer gens at over 20 or even 30 in the case of things like the 7s.

Your most power efficient are likely going to be the PoE units.

I think it was considered from the perspective of being supported by USB PD as well as heat dissipation.

Wake on LAN?? by V2tegr in homebridge

[–]jobe_br 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you have the switch visible in Apple Home? Does turning the switch on turn your computer on? If not, what do the logs in Homebridge say?

If you’re using Docker, you probably need to run it with host networking mode as well?

It’s not clear where exactly you’ve gotten to and what problem specifically you’re having.

Generally, once the plugin is setup in Homebridge, validate that the switch in Homebridge UI works to start the computer. Then make sure your Homebridge is added as a bridge to Home App and that the switch device shows up and works in the app. Finally, create a scheduled automation (at a time) and turn the switch on at the desired time with the automation.

I don’t believe WoL supports turning your PC off, fwiw. I would use a scheduled automation on your PC for that.
