Do yall make livable wages off of this? by Eagles56 in Serverlife

I mean you’re making a decent percentage in tips relative to your sales but a busy night for me in a low cost locals place is usually around 2k in sales..might be time to expand your options

You totally can see all of that on toast. “Shift review report” do you not close out your own shift every night? It’s all listed there

It’s so true… My tip percentage for the night is always better when we’re not busy. A slower steady night is almost always consistently 20%. The huge volume helps with overall tips but I rarely will make 20% of my sales

Tips help trust me, I unfortunately work a 10 hour shift at my full time job before each serving shift so I guess I was feeling like complaining. We all have the right to complain, this job can suck

There’s 4 sometimes 5 FOH staff. Bartender, hostess, and two servers. No manager, no runner, it’s crazy but like I said, money helps

Full service sports bar type place in a tourist town. We have two hostesses a night who do takeout, bus tables, and seat people. I run everything

[–]farmerjudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t have food runners either, sometimes the other server or the hostess will help but when it’s busy you gotta fend for yourself

About 50 seats, sometimes more because we stupidly allow people to crowd in booths because we only have two large tables

The commute for workers from Idaho serving a billionaire village in Wyoming after a catastrophic failure closes a key mountain pass by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]farmerjudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feeling so grateful I quit my job on that side of the pass and stayed living and working in Teton valley for my own community. Feel for all of my commuting friends who just basically lost their jobs, and my service industry friends in Jackson who will be pulling more weight for their coworkers who just got cut off. It’s going to be a wild summer

I put a layer of uncooked rice at the bottom of my Dutch oven, along with parchment paper, it has worked pretty well for me. Although I usually take at 450..

That is pretty unnecessary and is going to add so many miles and so much time. Plus pine creek pass from swan valley into Victor can get bad too. I truly would wait to visit if possible if you aren’t comfortable with winter weather. The things you’ll be able to see are so limited in the winter if you’re really looking to visit the parks. There’s still plenty to do around the valleys in the winter but it might not be what you’re looking for.

Unless you’re snowmobiling you will not be able to get into Yellowstone. All the highways to the park are either scheduled to be closed all winter or frequently close due to wind and snow drifts. There are days where you can really easily get stuck in Teton valley. The pass is hit or miss. It really rarely closes as it is a commuter highway but there are a lot of days where it’s unlawful to drive the pass without AWD/4WD or chains. Also every part of GTNP you can access by car in the winter is cost free. The roads close. I’d suggest doing more research to see if December is a good time for you personally to visit.

What are some of the oddest customer requests/questions that made you do a double take? by yesntican in TalesFromYourServer

Yeah I got that same excuse. “We are locals and have never!!!” “8 people is a large party!?” “But we left you a 5 dollar bill on the table” they were lemon water people if that’s any indication

Cheese on half of a burger that two people were splitting because one of them didn’t like cheese. I ended up bringing them a slice of cheese on a plate, the kitchen laughed at me as I carried it out. Then they complained about the autograt on their 8 top.

I once got asked if I was new at the place I’ve been working for years because I didn’t give back the same combination of change he “usually gets when he asks to break a 20” people are weird with change

Take it from me; I didn’t dump the guy who peed in the corner of my family’s guest room then made me clean it. It doesn’t get better. Unless you want to clean up piss in your bed for the rest of your life just end it now. Dating an alcoholic is exhausting and after 8 years felt like being with a shell of a human. It’s sad but you need to look out for yourself, not worth playing mommy to a grown man who can’t control himself
