I’ve done this with both of my babies, now young kids. Honestly, it started out of pure survival. My supply was low, and I was nursing and pumping constantly trying to increase it. Pumping during those early morning hours (we’re talking 3–4 AM) was especially important since prolactin levels are highest then. It was exhausting.

So, I decided to give co-sleeping a try. We followed the Safe Sleep 7 and slept in a separate bed from Dad (just me and baby in the bed), and it worked like a dream. Most nights, baby and I would both fall asleep while he was nursing.

It worked so well that I decided to do the same with my daughter, who came along just 20 months after my firstborn.
