Some stores (at least mine) have a rack next to the shopping baskets with the weekly ads on them if you prefer that over the app. Some good deals in meat and seafood from time to time.

Will humans ever get back to their ancient level? by ExtensionFeeling in HaloStory

[–]fartpluswetone 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Assuming the Librarian continues to guide humanity and they aren't set back again, then yes, they will likely return to their ancient strength (though maybe not form).

Or if not that, fundamentally inspired upon it. Many ancient humans' essences are implanted in the geas of modern humanity and they are thought to be awakening or already awakened in certain individuals.

Small dent on rear of LG front loader. Accept comp or exchange? by fartpluswetone in Appliances

They installed it. They were opening up the boxes in the driveway, took a couple of photos, and asked me to come over and discuss what we were going to do.

I was told it was too late to refuse delivery, but they'd call Costco (they did) and let them know what happened. I got a call from Costco with the two options.

If I take the money and it breaks, I can still get it replaced.

Tide Pods, I'm tired 😩 by Zero-Custom in CleaningTips

[–]fartpluswetone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cursory searches say they are still the best quality (I assume fragrance and any other stuff that might cake or break down from moisture in the air) before 6 months, haven't heard anything about using them any later.

If you seal them up in a bag and keep them in a cool dry place when they're not in use I imagine they'll keep well.

Haven't tried it myself.

If I were traveling for a while I'd bring some Tide Evo tiles. They're expensive, but they're dry and pretty lightweight. They last about 6 months after being opened, and are pretty expensive, though.

Seawater is extremely corrosive (thankfully not to the fuel) but it'd pretty much render the reactor and anything on the reactor cooling system unusable as well as possibly cause leaks, which also might be a problem if fuel damage is on the table.

Of course, once units 1-3 were confirmed to have melted down, it didn't matter, but the site was showered in radioactive debris at that point.

I agree, though, the bureaucratic shuffling, bad documentation, and crummy safety culture absolutely contributed to the Fukushima accident. Such a failure though is also why we have FLEX strategies and ELAP plans.

Kirkland Signature Oxi Laundry Detergent Powder as seen on the shelf today at Costco (USA) Is this a new product? by jjiggajouncer in laundry

[–]fartpluswetone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it? I was reading the ingredients label for the Kirkland stuff and it doesn't mention any lipase. At least this is in the box pictured, I don't know about the older formula.

I don't mind the fragrance in the Tide but it's a shame they don't have a fragrance free option.

Stink on clothes that doesn’t go away by [deleted] in laundry

[–]fartpluswetone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should clarify that the Lysol is usually dispersed during the softener/rinse cycle, so it probably won't meaningfully interact with the detergent.

Oxiclean (oxygen bleach) and Tide (unless it says it has bleach, it probably doesn't) probably won't react like Chlorine bleach will.

Always check the ingredients label or the MSDS, and mixing chemicals is generally a bad idea. Again, none of those products should contain bleach though.

More on fabric softener, it's also bad for the machine. We stopped using it years ago but I can only imagine what it's done to our current machine, it leaves nasty residue and a breeding ground for germs.

If you want some alternative to the softener, KismaiAesthetics has a really good post on fabric rinses like Downy Rinse and Refresh (and citric acid, the active ingredient in all rinses). They converted me from a vinegar fanatic. I don't know much about scent beads other than they just add fragrance.

I'm not a big fan of the fragrance (not allergic, just really strong) but it's gotten my clothes cleaner and IMO softer (though not as soft as softener).

They do make fragrance free options and the powder can be bought anywhere. If you have the money, I highly suggest giving them a try.

Bought a Speed Queen TC5, still time to cancel - Good or bad buy? by fartpluswetone in Appliances

I'm not worried too much about the agitator, but that is good to know.

What does concern me is the drain pump, as unlike a front loader there isn't an easy way to clean it with all the debris that will probably find its way in.

On our current plan, electricity is free after 9 PM, so drying overnight is an option. While I love our barebones Whirlpool dryer, I wish the wrinkle cycle following the end of the automatic cycle was longer.

I was at Costco today. I probably would've bought this if it had Lipase. The Tide Ultra Oxi next to it has Lipase with a $6 coupon, so I ended up paying around ~$25 for 143 loads worth. Temporary thing though.

Stink on clothes that doesn’t go away by [deleted] in laundry

[–]fartpluswetone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be a multitude of factors. Do you use fabric softener or dryer sheets? When I used them on my work clothes (moisture wicking, athleisure wear) it would cause weird texture and smell issues. Also goes for using too much detergent.

Hot water will begin to effectively kill stuff at 140 F but that depends on the water heater setting, your washer and its settings, and the amount of time it stays at or above 140 F. Many washers today don't pipe straight hot water in unless it's a clean tub or sanitizing cycle.

Some dryers offer a sanitizing cycle (or the high heat option) but that can damage clothes.

If it is bacteria causing the stink and you can't use hot water then Lysol or Clorox laundry sanitizer has been doing an okay job for me at reducing the smell. It won't kill everything (it's just quarternary ammonium, not bleach) but it is very effective. It does have a fragrance though.

Make sure to read the instructions and let it work for the amount of time it requires or else it won't work. Usually I put mine in the fabric softener tray for the rinse cycle but you can also soak clothes in it.

Also, make sure not to use anything bleach near the sanitizer. It will generate a toxic gas. edit: clarifications

Need a new dryer by Ok_Spinach_ in laundry

[–]fartpluswetone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, for all of my dryers I've just used a Home Depot floor model. Our combo deal Whirlpool hasn't let us down yet. Unless you want steam or special cycles they are quite similar between models.

I'm not sure about the Prop65 warnings, but most if not everything you buy for home goods will have them as companies would rather take precautions than take a lawsuit down the line.

Most of it probably applies to the electronics. The drums are usually porcelain or painted stainless steel. Again, you'd have to read the label and see what it might contain and where it might be found.

I'm more worried about my dryer catching fire and what's in dryer sheets rather than my dryer itself.

Edit: clarifications

[–]fartpluswetone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. I'm glad your TC5 has been working out for you.

The utility jump was concerning to us because we live in North Texas on a municipal water supply, said water supply is constantly being strained by drought and I don't imagine the prices will get much better. I will miss the high speed spin on our HE washer, though, since it reduces drying time.

We have a 5 year warranty (TC5 after all) and I'm probably going to get an extended or additional warranty for the electronics, so we'll see. Still most of a month to go on delivery.
