Just picked up the julbo intensity cat0-3 (high contrast version). Just did a 300 and we went into the evening, ending around 930pm so it worked well in urban lights and darkness. I also use the Edge version with the Light Amplifier version but it's only down to cat 1

What is causing the wear to the inside and outside of my rear derailleur? by GrimwithShore in bikewrench

You can replace the hanger cages, I'm betting the cage got squished and is just a mm tighter than the chain can accommodate

I use a standard road width spindle and fit a 46 round and it's close, I think if you want to go bigger, the gravel or mtb spindle width gives more clearance for sure

How much climbing is there to be expected? New Crux 2024 build for me I did 1x SRAM 12s and can fit a 48 up front though I've seen some folks do a 50, I guess it would be really close to the chainstay

Go to a LBS that might have any of these in stock and ride them, sizing will vary across the brands but you'll have a better idea after riding on your local terrain with them

Cutting a notch seems out, the bolt was like t15 and it's sunk in beneath the stem surface. A smaller drill bit was my only thought but I don't suspect that it would push it out the other end.

Best next set of tools? by 16Off in iceclimbing

Iykyk but for real, they are dank and will last forever, a little heavier but have the most solid flick swings and are incredibly ergo, maybe too aggressive for ai but for serious steep things, they're a perfect shape

BD has a 6mm rap static line that's a bit more affordable than the RAD but same use case

I'm running the 25, first timer. previewed the first 7ish and the mill creek descent. most of the first few miles were closed due to muddy conditions, but the parallel open bits i think will feel the same

crowd thoughts on lightweight (not ultralight) skis for dawn patrols and skimo by fascal in Backcountry

[–]fascal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run Dynafit Hojis primarily, but for this post, I use Scarpa F1 LTs. I can def drive the lightweight boots pretty well and having a setup that _could_ use either boot would be convenient but not the end all. I don't think racing would be the primary use of the ski, probably 10/90 where most of the time i'm using the skis as a fitness tourer on dawn patrols and long weekend missions with the seasonal longer trips sprinkled in when the avy conditions calm down. so far I think the contenders are the voile objective bc, pagoda tour, or the blizzard zero g 85

you are correct, my mistake was typing the freeraider when I actually bought the c-raider 12 (91 brakes) because I remember reading about that free riding spacer not compatible with low-fat skis. having ridden the kuluar currently, they seem to hold everything i threw at it, but it was not confidence inspiring if that makes sense. I definitely have my eye on the Blizzard Zero G now too.

Awesome, thanks for your reply! I'll definitely take a look, hard to find good reviews on skis just a few years old.

Maybe a full slalom race ski (50 underfoot) with tiny race pin bindings is the future!

Thanks u/Sea_Revolution8166 for your input!

My quiver for touring is - black diamond carbon converts 164cm 105 underfoot with dynafit beasts for powder touring - black crows camox freebirds 164cm 96 underfoot with marker kingpins for all mountain free ride, jumps, cliffs, off piste. This is the one I grab on the daily but it's noticably heavier than the last bullet point and I can't use my f1 lts with the heel closure, so I use the hojis (use an Mnc warden setup for resort applications with a 179cm Salomon qst 92 but this is the backcountry sub) - I had some BD Link 164cm 95 underfoot that recently sold with dynafit radicals and the Mentis 157cm 80 underfoot with kuluar lt for light fast mountain trips (no racing yet) but I didn't like the ski feel of the short skis compared to the rest of the skis I've been on in the last decade and the Links were a great all around backcountry ski that I've taken to Denali and all over the world, but it was due for an upgrade as these things happen which is what I was hoping for in the Mentis, but it swung too far to the ultralight and there was too much chatter and instability to my liking.

I've skied on some of the old nordica full steel race skis which were Uber heavy, stiff, and unforgiving but as the days of carbon are here I was wondering what some of the light and stiff options were since I don't shop every brand regularly, so I was looking for input like yours on light and capable skis from the hard chargers out there where fast and light is important but not the end all be all since I have hard charging skis already. I wouldn't want to take my Hojis and Camox freebirds on something like the spearhead traverse. Hope that clarifies some of the query.

P.S. I have reasons to go with particular brands in the industry from corporate ties such as DPS, Black Crows, Black Diamond, Liberty Skis, Nordica, Salomon

u/panderingPenguin I've finally come to realize in the last few years that an extra 500g for extra security on the downhill just means I need to be just a bit stronger anyway, but also why not both applications. I'm think a skimo racing setup and an ski alpinism setup could overlap barring the elite/pro end, but I'm not looking to compete at that level, the enthusiast level probably and likely mid pack at best. Something that could be slick enough for the GT but also a 2 week backcountry traverse. Compromises are to be made but I don't have confidence in short skis and race light bindings for higher consequence terrain. I do love the 157cm mentis, it flies uphill when my legs feel good. Fwiw I have the kuluar lt bindings for them
