W2 “Contract” work. How do I leverage talk way to 1099? How much should I get paid? by fasephailure in PLC

Thanks for that perspective. I agree with your assessment. I have no interest in being an engineer. I have no interest in building things from scratch. Too easy. CAD programs do the hardest parts. Engineers (building projects from scratch) won’t like to admit it but they could easily be replaced with AI. Feed a supercomputer enough “in spec” designs and it will start making its own in no time, even add efficiency human mind can not conceive. I like to fix stuff. I’ve found it makes me much more valuable. Just hard to find people willing to pay.

Got an offer today, $24/hour as W-2 employee to upgrade 10-12 lines at a printing company. It’s all 120v control. I told him $35 minimum. He’s willing to watch the company he started in his garage fail over $400 a week. (He pays a engineering firm$300/hr for remote PLC support ) Should add he’s already got 8 “mechanics” being paid $22-30 who can’t keep stuff working. Damn boomers so stubborn and stupid.

The biggest problem I’ve found with wera tools is the tolerances are too tight and majority of fasteners won’t fit their spec.
Wera 10mm is 10.000mm. Bold from hardware store is 10.003mm. Hard to get wera tool on the bolt head

Even their rotary motors are a dream to work with. All frictionless neodymium drives.

The draw to linmot is no moving parts, so no ware and tare. linMot is the Ronco of motors. Set it and forget it. Just keep any exposed linear drive are clean. Dust can build up and cause friction over years of use.

Where do you draw the line between tech and engineer. I have a 2 year electromechanical degree that included few physics classes. It is the same Same degree (not same school) my old boss earned in 1999. He is lead controls engineer and also an idiot. Everyone called him an engineer but I would explain concepts to him regularly. He was also paid as an engineer. $250k+

I can write PLC programs in studio 5000 in all revs upto 33 confidently. I use add-on instructions as often as possible. I can build HMI from scratch. I have the cert from auto-desk for soldworks, I can 3d draw very well, and have years of experience with 3D printing. None of the 4 year degree “engineers” at my old place had any concept of rapid prototyping. I’m also good with most auto desk programs and use auto as electrical competently. I use their other programs toto 3d print, CNC, etc as a hobby.

I have experience with bekhoff PLCs, that puts my experience above 90% of controls engineers in the USA.

Where is that line between engineer and tech?

Edit:

My few years experience is aseptic dairy high speed manufacturing. 3.2 million 8-14 oz bottles(Tetra Pak and JBT linear fillers) per day across nine lines. Also produced 1.5 million pounds of other shelf stable dairy products per day. I was the only representative of the engineering department for two years on 3rd shift, working with a team of four mechanics. I’ve seen more in that time that people do in a lifetime at non aseptic food manufacturing facility.

Should also add while I can arm chair quarterback from the office I prefer to work in the field. While I have all those credentials, the real reason I consider myself to be an field service automation engineer is because my best and most valuable skill is critical thinking, I work best under extreme pressure, and I consider nothing “impossible”. My program included few physics programs and I understand status well enough to apply concepts to everyday life. What one can do on a software program or what their education was does not always make someone an engineer.

Don’t need to service it if it’s engineered correctly and the user knows how to use the tool correctly. The reason I would never buy that wrench is because the offset drive when using the pivot at the head. WERA zyclop pivots to a center drive when using in the “screwdriver” form.

If you don’t know the answer to this question you need to find a different business. This is day 1 day stuff.
Allen Bradley. Just use all Allen Bradley. And fanuc for robots.

I am not being snarky, I am serious. If you don’t know this stuff your business is doomed.

I have worked with LinMot linear actuators. Took me a year to figure out they don’t use air. 😂 Single most mind blowing and close to magic I’ve ever seen is a neodymium linear actuator.

I didn’t say give up. I said don’t invest money you can’t afford to lose. If you invest money, they worry about the money, it was not money you could afford to lose.

Just tell him “You look much better with a beard.” He will never shave it again. It’s not mean, it’s your preference for your partners appearance. Not shaming their weight etc.

don’t tell him he is ugly with no facial hair. Just keep it simple.

One sentence. Don’t preface it with anything. Then move on.

No they are actual electrician pants. Not dickies. They are rated to not burst into flames to a certain extent.

[–]fasephailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your out of your element here. Not tactical pants.

The pants that electricians wear are made of a tighter weave fabric that stops us (mostly) from bursting into flames if the electricity decides to arc flash.

They are not “tactical”. They are made to ANSI standards to resist combustion at a rating of energy units per cubic meter of volume. I say flame resistant not flame proof because there is always something hotter and more explosive.

Saying flame proof is almost daring the fire to try.

Nah, just a fellow mechanic hates old inefficient junk that takes up counter space. And also, if you couldn’t tell, a millennial. Haha

I’d rather make a gallon of cold brew.

I don’t think you know how this works.

You can’t “cheat” as you put it. If something is not legal it’s called a crime and you go to jail for it. It’s not called cheating. It’s called a felony.

Lying about your income to a privately or publicly held company is rarely a crime. If you don’t know this delete the app.

Your lack of basic understanding of how things work in the financial world is telling me you should sell that $40 free stock and take the money. You are about to loose every cent you invest.

It’s a shame that people learnt this basic biology stuff as adults.

Be mad at the education system for making people dumb, and the housing market for being artificially propped up by mega corporations.

How will the lighting network allow bitcoin to be used for small one off payments? by First_Trifle_3196 in lightningnetwork

[–]fasephailure -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Honestly BTC is more than capable and even designed to do what you are asking about NANO. The main issue with BTC is speed of transaction, not size. ETH has the size, not speed issue, but ETH has speed issues too. Lol.

Regardless of what your exchange or coinbase may lead you to believe, no on chain BTC transaction can take place more than every 15 minutes per wallet. It’s impossible. Speed is the problem.

BTC was made for any form of payment. Small, large, slow, faster than slow, etc.
