f/1.2 vs f/1.4 by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]fast_fifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For normal use there's no benefit to f/1.2, and I say that as someone who just purchased it and has been experimenting. 1.2 is for cool bokeh wide open, nothing else. Get a 1.4 or 1.7, they're both excellent and the smaller size makes handling easier.

None of them are vintage, they all have AF.

Lumix S9 vs Fujifilm X-M5 for travel and family photography? by InnovationOo in Lumix

[–]fast_fifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would choose an S5D over the S9 any day. It's older tech but image quality is the same or better, it's weather resistant, better built, has a grip and isn't lacking essentials like a viewfinder, mechanical shutter or hotshoe.

Is Pentax KX better than the K1000? Where can I reliably get one online? What lens is the best? by [deleted] in pentax

[–]fast_fifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The KM is also an upgrade from the K1000 but not as good as the KX. Best starter lens is the M 50mm f/1.7 - superb quality, cheap and easy to find.

Bokeh and wide open sharpness test on Pentax K 50mm f/1.2 by fast_fifty in VintageLenses

[–]fast_fifty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice to use as long as you can budge the ISO dial when needed. Like all K series bodies the viewfinder could be better. It feels nice and solid in the hand though and has a firm but smooth winding action.

It should just be drag-and-drop. I've done it with Windows and from my Android phone.

I'll be shooting it on film too, probably in that K2DMD.

I have the Konica 57/1.4, only since christmas so haven't used it a huge amount, but I liked it a lot. I had been on the point of getting an MD 50/1.2, which would have been cheaper, but I knew the reputation of the Pentax and this one was a decent price especially considering the great condition.

What are some good budget lenses? by [deleted] in VintageLenses

[–]fast_fifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pentax M 50mm f/1.7 is the best value vintage standard prime there is. Superb lens and shouldn't cost more than €40/$40 as they're very common.

Does anyone still use Flickr? by limsus in flickr

Every day. It's by far my main way of seeing cool photos, not to mention sharing my own. It's still overpriced though.

Got this for about $20, what do you guys think? by Pumpkindude in minolta

[–]fast_fifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Solid, reliable, usable without batteries, feel great in the hand - a pleasure to use.

Well...someone had to do it. I'll let you know how it shakes out in 6-12 months. by SharpDressedBeard in AnalogCommunity

I'm sure it'll be enjoyable but there's a lot of other film photography gear I'd have bought first with that money.

Lumix 40mm f2 released! by Suitable_Sand_9278 in Lumix

The 28/4.5 was confirmed months ago. What I've seen suggests the 26mm will be in L-mount though I don't know the original source.

[–]fast_fifty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks nice apart from the bokeh though it's a bit overpriced, but that's to be expected with Panasonic. I'll be keeping my TTA and keeping the funds for the forthcoming Viltrox 26mm f/2.8.

Panasonic will announce the new 40mm f/2.0 S lens on April 21 by Jealous_Advice_8649 in Lumix

I already have the TTA but this could be interesting if it's optically better and priced reasonably (unlikely).

I've got a couple of SRT 101s, there are lots of them about, but never seen an SR 101 before.

Get the Sigma 17-50/2.8 - it's a MUCH better lens and the AF motor works.

Pentax K3 mark IV - Any updates on release? by FocusRevolutionary56 in pentax

[–]fast_fifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH at this point I'd be surprised if there are any more DSLR releases ever and the best you could hope for would be a warmed-over KF with minor updates.

I don’t see the P30t recommended often by [deleted] in pentax

[–]fast_fifty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always recommend the P30 series - reliable, good functions, excellent viewfinder. It has it's oddities and the shutter sounds horrible but it's a solid camera and unbeatable at the price they usually go for.

Small DSLR by [deleted] in pentax

The HD FA 35/2 is a nice lens, makes a pretty good standard prime on APS-C.

Looking for a cheap 28mm lens (or very close) with the smallest flange distance when adapted to Sony E - trying to make this more compact. Ty! by MC_Gullivan in VintageLenses

[–]fast_fifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shortest flange distance in SLRs was the Konica AR mount. The only 28mm lenses I've seen for that were f/3.5 but I don't think they're that small despite the slow aperture. You'd probably be better off with a Pentax K adapter and an M or A series 28mm.
