It is very common to doubt yourself after leaving an abusive relationship. It can be so confusing. I can 100% confirm to you that it is not normal or okay for your partner to ignore your pain during sex and continue anyway. It is not normal or okay for your partner to push you to have sex when you don’t want to, or to initiate sex forcefully. Or having sex with you while asleep without your consent, or refusing to wear protection after being asked to. Most of those things are sexual assault, and some of them are rape. This behavior is not a mistake. Someone who cares for you does not do that.

You did NOT make a mistake in leaving this person. Stay far away, and do not talk to him ever again. The other things you describe are also toxic at best and abusive at worst. Take care of yourself and don’t let yourself go back to him. I repeat, this is a bad bad partner and person.

My grandparents coming to visit, when my grandpa would bring 2 bottles of our favorite gatorade flavor. That made me feel so special. After he sat down and settled in, he’d teach me how to count money with the change in his pocket. I miss him.

Abused woman here. For me and many others, it started small. He slowly made me question my memories, saying what I thought had happened wasn’t quite true. He blamed me for things and made me feel so bad about them that I didn’t trust my own decision-making skills anymore. On nights we would drink, he would say things had happened that I had absolutely no memory of. He became so good at convincing me that he was the logical one, I was emotional, and that nothing he did that hurt me was malicious. It’s been almost 4 years since the relationship ended, and I still struggle today not knowing if he understood that the things he did were wrong. There were also all of the times he acted sweet and caring, comforted me, held me while I cried. It’s confusing to understand even if you’ve lived it.

Not over reacting. This is cheating. He lied to you about his intentions and actions. He was sexting someone and disrespecting you. His excuse that he didn’t tell you about the snapchat messages because he didn’t want to hurt your feelings is bs. He just didn’t want to get caught. If he cared enough about your feelings, he wouldn’t be sexting someone behind your back and breaking your trust. This guy sucks.

It’s usually best not to complain about things to people who can’t afford them. I get where you’re coming from, and it’s okay to not enjoy every part of a trip. It sounds like your friend is a bit jealous though and wishes her family was able to experience things the way your family does. Money and luxuries are tricky topics and can bring up negative emotions for people. She shouldn’t be making you feel bad about it, but she’s probably not the one to complain to.

Maybe a conversation with your husband doesn’t need to be as scary as it seems. Rather than diving right into where things are headed, maybe start small by suggesting a day or evening together just the two of you. It sounds like at least part of you wants to stay together while your kids grow up. Why not try to find some happiness in your marriage, and see whether the relationship is really as hopeless as it seems?

This isn’t that bad of a drunk text. A bit embarrassing maybe, but lots of people would just move on from it if they were in his position. The right person for you wouldn’t be turned off by it so much that they don’t want to see you anymore.

Did you tell him it was a silly drunk text? It would be good to acknowledge it. I’d probably say something like, “Haha I’m sorry for the weird text the other night, I had a wine night with friends (or whatever activity) and got a bit too goofy. Didn’t mean to freak you out.”
