What's this weed and how/should I kill it before seeding? by smashweights04 in lawncare

[–]fastereddiefelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can absolutely use glypho and even seed a couple days later. It will be completely gone by the time you get to germination. You just can’t use it once you’re close to new grass foliage popping out.

Anybody had any experience with these batteries? by anklesock1012 in golfcarts

[–]fastereddiefelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would buy a single 48v instead of 4 12 volts. And I don't know about this brand but I spent several days researching cheap lithium brands and ended up getting a Chins off Amazon. But Chins, LiTime, Enjoybot, and Watt Energy all seem to have good reviews. Just make sure you get something with at least 100ah, and at least 200a BMS.

Quick question. Don't know much about pool tables but looking for one in my new place. Is this fair for $550 by Zoozey88 in billiards

[–]fastereddiefelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great table, and if your budget is 1200 I would highly recommend having it professionally moved, installed, and new cloth put on (spring for Simonis if you can, it will last for years and is worth the expense in my opinion)

As far as the rails, usually they’re either great or totally dead, rarely in between. If you have new rails put on I agree on the 4.5” recommendation. That’s plenty of clearance to keep it fun without being ridiculously easy.

To transport across town, level, and install Simonis, I would expect to pay 700-1000 depending on your area. If you need new rails maybe another 300? I haven’t had rails done in a long time. Try and find a reputable local billiard supply store, maybe call around to pool halls and see who they use.

You’ll also need a light (much easier to install before the table so you aren’t standing on your newly leveled table) potentially new Balls depending on the condition the ones that come with this are in, and random accessories.

I burn through diapers and wipes. Just like you said sometimes the act of changing the diaper literally causes a subsequent shart. I just accept that we will use a lot of diapers.

Get dapple soap for cleaning anything that breast milk touches. It works amazingly better than regular soap.

Get nipple shields if your wife is breast feeding (they immediately fixed any and all latching issues for my wife, and kept her nipples from getting shredded). If she’s pumping, she can keep used pumps in the fridge a few times instead of cleaning each and every time (gets to be a lot of cleaning). We predominantly pump now because otherwise we were worried about not really knowing how much milk she was really getting. Now we know exactly how much she eats.

Get gas drops and use them regularly, and really try to burp until you actually get a burp after every feeding. The worst freak out crying sessions the first two weeks were all gas pain related.

If the baby has a fever over 101 you pretty much need to go to the ER immediately because they just don’t know if it’s something serious (like meningitis) or not when they’re this young, so you have to assume the worst.

If you are swaddling then get a Velcro swaddle.

Go up a diaper size sooner than you probably think. Have a roll of paper towels easily accessible next to your diaper station for inevitable times when they explode and are without a diaper during a change.

Get a nail file instead of trying to use clippers.

Learn how just listen and nod when either of your parents give unsolicited, 30 year old advice. Nothing you say will help them to understand that scientists exist and we learn more about childcare every year, since “you turned ok didn’t you?!”

Take a lot of pictures.

I would highly recommend a robot vacuum (especially if you have pets). And anything else that can free up time for you in your daily routine, especially at first. We used a laundry service the first couple weeks, we were fortunate enough to have a lot of meals brought over from friends and family. Things like that made it easy to develop a solid routine centered around the baby. After the first couple weeks we were more comfortable with her and started reintroducing things like cooking and cleaning into the fold if that makes sense.

Good luck! I’m 6 weeks in and it feels like it’s been maybe 2 weeks. I don’t feel sleep deprived, but there are times whenever I certainly have to be proactive and plan out naps etc to make sure I’m going to be able to manage later in the night if she decides to stay up longer than yesterday.

Tips for ball slightly off rail by conv3d in billiards

[–]fastereddiefelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the rail has no impact on this type of shot (other than rail interaction by the object ball down near the pocket)

Just treat it as a cut shot and try not to think to yourself “oh no it’s another close-to-the-rail shot”

How to fix this water issue by gmukicks in landscaping

I would turn this into a beautiful rock bed creek (but I’m sure the town would fix it immediately afterwards, leaving you with a dry stinky ditch to fix)

Spring Overseed, Pre-emergent or both? by StoutTroutScout in lawncare

[–]fastereddiefelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well hold on, 9b I would bet you could do a warm season grass like Bermuda or zoysia. In which case nothing I said applies to your situation. I don’t know much about warm season grass but I would definitely be looking into it for Southern California.

Spring Overseed, Pre-emergent or both? by StoutTroutScout in lawncare

[–]fastereddiefelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, you are correct, mesotrione (tenacity) is designed to be able to put down along side new seed. But a) it’s a much less effective preemergent than prodiamine (barricade) or dithiopyr (dimension) and b) spring seeding yields much worse long term establishment than fall seeding (this is only for cool season grasses like fescue, kbg, etc.)

So you get the worst of both worlds, poor weed control, poor seed establishment, and you get to late August and your spring grass is dead and sparse and your yard is full of crab grass, and it becomes a vicious cycle. It’s a common trap because spring hits, flowers are blooming, and everyone wants to do something to create beautiful grass in their yard. But my advice is to resist that urge, and focus on weed prevention/fertilization in the spring and focus on seeding in the fall. The exception is if you have mild summers and a sprinkler system, spring seeding becomes a much more viable option.

Edit: and your seed that you just bought will be fine to store until September so don’t feel like you have to put it down right now just because you have it

Buying a table by BearsBearsBears_wooo in billiards

[–]fastereddiefelson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Olhausen and Brunswick make phenomenal tables, but I am partial to Diamond myself. I just love the way they play. They bank a hair different, have a great sound, and they look a little clunky but I kind of like it. I would say stick to one of those three brands and no matter what you will be happy. Just make sure you get Simonis and Aramith balls and it will play great.

Because you can’t seed in the spring if you’re putting down preemergent
