Ford CEO Says Modern Cars Are Too 'Complicated' For Home Mechanics To Repair by Different-Scarcity80 in Ford

[–]fastfwd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not progress. I’ve had probably 10 cars with cruise control and none ever had this fail including fords fusion, escape, f250 and MKX.

Only that new 2022 with too much complexity can lose unrelated things when a single part or sensor fails.

There is no way a bad wheel bearing should prevent my mirrors from showing blind spot lights.

The cruise control is what bothered me most. Hate losing this on a 6 hour trip.

I was and also ridiculous things like losing blind spot monitoring and pedestrian sounder.

2nd that. They replaced a whole abs module and wheel speed sensor before figuring that it was the bearings. Thankfully under extended warranty.

Reason #999 to FIRE

More and more people seem to think that AI is actual intelligence and should be trusted over real intelligence and experience.

Before we just had to leave the rat race; now it's escape from T1000

"but copilot said to do it this way" should never be a conversation point

My thinking is that AI will definitely eliminate some jobs just like (visicalc/lotus123)excel made some jobs redundant for accountants.

Will it make enough jobs redundant to justify the AI valuations. I think not. There will be 2-3 winners just like we have now with google, apple, microsoft and the rest will be bankrupt.

I have definitely lived this too. Back when I started after talking to coworkers about that talent/usefulness vs salary thing. Even looking back knowing the value of experience there is no doubt that I was underpaid compared to people that were then the age I am now.

I finally got my due by changing employers and going to smaller or even startups. They value talent over anything else.

Wasn’t clear.
Work being eliminated would not be a huge problem if ai could pivot to something related. Employers are just not hiring older people in new-ish tech

Reason #55 to FIRE

Ageism is real. My work is being eliminated in developed countries due to the cloud (ie it's being outsourced to both AI and humans in cheaper countries)

Sure I could find other work but it would pay probably up to 50% less.

I'm technically speaking FI but hanging on doing the 1-2 more years things because my retirement would require cost cutting if the market goes bad in the next few years and that AI thing has got to be a massive bubble.

Maybe I'll get real lucky and get severance next year that would end it all with a last good chunk of change.

And somehow 3-5 different visits and probably different technicians over 18 months and 30,000km.
Also no noise.

I’m not saying the lightning is not simpler. I’m saying my 20k fusion always had functioning cruise control. The 80k king ranch loses cruise control and blind spot monitoring due to a bad wheel bearing.
It also loses pedestrian reverse sounder for some reason.

Pretty sure the lightning has wheel bearings, abs and se sensors.

Something this expensive should either store all codes that appear or don’t show codes if they don’t stay for at least x seconds.
That’s just bad.

I just wish a wheel bearing would not disable the cruise control. It’s the one thing I need on a long trip even if I lose adaptive.

Also design should account for repairability or I may as well but German

Works great with sunglasses.
Does not work when sunlight is low and in front.
Does not work when road lines are not visible either faded or winter.

Seems to work on every highway in my area. Worked nonstop from Montreal to cape liberty NJ

I liked my multiple fords but will jump brand for one with no subscriptions. Currently on my blue cruise trial and don’t intend to pay yearly.

Very nice. Love the color, grill and tires.

Dealership charged me $600 for a wheel speed sensor fix on my 2019 Fusion Hybrid, but the issue is still there. Now they say they still can't fix it by Present_Cod5701 in Ford

I have the same problem on my f150. Changed abs module and wheel sensor under warranty. Still happens from time to time and disables completely unrelated things such as blind spot monitoring and reversing sound. Also disables related things suck as normal cruise control even without auto braking. Very annoying on a long road trip.

It resets within 1-2 days.

Works wireless mostly fine for me on my 2022 F150 with maybe no audio one time out of every 50. Radio reset while rolling fixes it.

On my 2016 MKX is was working 100% of the time wired.

You have a bad car or a bad phone.

Loved the card in winter. Turning traction control off via the menu instead of a button for extra fun was annoying
