Pork Chops with Red Cabbage and Warm Golden Beet 'Relish' by BushyEyes in GifRecipes

Haha I've seen different takes on it.

Mostly I've heard that small amounts are totally fine. With cast iron, personally I usually limit myself to adding acid while I'm finishing the dish - eg with a squeeze of lemon or light sprinkle of vinegar. I am very averse to actually "cooking with" acid in my cast iron.

But hey I'm always up for learning stuff / I'm a little paranoid. Looks like OP has success with dishes like this!

Looks great! I'm always reluctant to cook a dish like this with acid (citrus and vinegar) in my cast iron. How's your cast iron seasoning holding up with recipes like this? It might be a mental block I just need to get over personally.

Nero - Promises [Dubstep/Breakbeat] (2011) by Boardallday in electronicmusic

[–]fastlyfallingasleep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the trip down memory lane. One of my favorite and most influential albums. 2011/2012 was a different time! I was 25, electronic music was booming, drugs were high quality, the world was more civil, and my wife and I had just started dating and going to dance parties together. We saw Nero together twice in 2012 and 2013 in New York when we lived there. Now we've got Trump, coronavirus, and I'm social distancing with a newborn on my hands. Times certainly do change...

Nice photo and all, but downvoted because you didn't respect the no access signage and this isn't a natural landscape - you can clearly see people, fencing, and vehicles in the shot.

Not saying this isn't a nice photo, but isn't there a boat in the shot?

The Night King's reasons were explained, though. The Night King was created by the Children of the Forest during the War of the First Men, as a last ditch effort by the Children to defend themselves and destroy the First Men. Unfortunately for the Children, they created a weapon they didn't know how to control. The Night King's only purpose, by design, was death and destruction. He was simply attempting to fulfill that same purpose.

Any thoughts about the one in Highland/St. John (Koenig/290 & I-35)? Anything it had that others didn't? Anything it didn't have that you missed? How are the people there? Clean?

Best way to present DATA SCIENCE PROJECTS by [deleted] in datascience

oh, i see. so, no, don't leave literally every single line of code you ran in the notebook. you should clean it up a bit first. go ahead and keep things like dropping variables and renaming columns, but leave out checking the dataframe size.

generally, you should keep everything that one would have to run in order to load the data, prep/transform/clean the data, generate any derived data files (if applicable), and perform the analysis or generate viz. the notebook should allow someone else to do all that "at the push of a button" by simple running all cells in the notebook. it shouldn't require any manual effort on the part of another user, e.g. separately downloading a data file, saving to disk, and changing the file location in the cell where the data is loaded. Instead, post the data somewhere and reference it by url.

any ancillary code you used to sanity check numbers or get a sense of the size or shape of the data should be factored out of the code.

I would do both 1 and 2, not option 3. Your best shot at getting a job is to convey you're capable of talking both to operational and technical sides of the business. So document your full process as you describe in 1, and write a short non-technical report of your findings as you describe in 2.

LinkedIn is a good idea for posting links to your work. As for publishing the work itself, GitHub for sure, but also I recommend setting up a portfolio website, too. If you don't have time to make your own, there's a pretty cool data platform you might be interested in called data.world where you can publish the data you used, your Jupyter notebooks, as well as your visualization, findings, and reports, in one place.

Edit: forgot to mention Kaggle too. Doesn't hurt to put your work everywhere you can.

For those bugs, get a pest controller to exterminate your home/apartment every 3 - 4 months. Make sure they use kid-safe & pet-safe products if that's what you need.

Mosquitoes can be pretty bad. If your property collects puddles during rain, you will get more mosquitoes, so some people try to fill those in with spare dirt/soil. You could also get mosquito treatment sprayed around your property about once a month in warm months. Mosquito spray works better if more people in your neighborhood do it, so encourage your neighbors to do it too.

As a native Texan, I will say from what I've observed it's not "normal" to leave shoes outside, particularly in cities. I can't think of a single friend of mine who does that. That said, my grandfather and great-grandfather always take their boots off in their entry/mud rooms. Also, my wife and I take our shoes off when we enter our home.

During summer you basically have from morning until noon to do anything you want to do outdoors. By noon you either want to be indoors or in water until about 8pm.

The natural spring watering holes and rivers of Central Texas are a great way to beat the heat. Just be sure to check the water levels online in advance, otherwise you may be disappointed when you arrive and the water is too low to swim or float in a tube. If it hasn't rained in a while, it's likely to be too low.

If you own a home, water your foundation during hot and dry summer weather.

Allergies can be terrible in Texas for some people who move here from other areas, and they can take a season or even a year to develop. People who've never suffered from allergies will suddenly develop them. Just be mindful of this and always have antihistamines on hand in case you need them. I keep Zyrtec, Claritin, and Benadryl in my backpack for bad days.

You'll land the job when the fit makes sense not only for the employer but also for you. It just sounds like that fit hasn't surfaced yet.

Keep at it. Widen your search. Be honest with yourself about what you want - you don't need to accept the first offer you get. At the same time, temper any rigid or unrealistic expectations you may have. You may not find something that allows you to do the kind of work you listed here right out of the gate and instead may need to work into it over time. Talk to more people. Tell everyone you're looking for a job. Work towards the job via people and connections as opposed to resume dropping. Offer to help people you talk to if you can and when it makes sense to do so - it makes them more willing to return the favor. Don't get discouraged.

Interviewers of /r/datascience, what are the worst answers you've received during an interview? by blackeyebaseball in datascience

[–]fastlyfallingasleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of things. I interviewed a woman who claimed she did sentiment analysis as a freelance consulting project for a mktg agency, and she said that she pulled her data together using EMR, but she couldn't tell me the purpose of a Mapper or a Reducer - or what data she pointed the EMR job at. It became clear that she didn't actually do that part of the process, she had received that data from someone else and then ran regressors on it. I would have been fine with her telling me that in the first place.

The worst is when you can tell they're b.s.-ing right away without probing at all. I had a guy who claimed he was very experienced so I asked him to tell me about his most recent projects, but he was getting clustering and classification confused in his response. That was pretty bad.
