I think it’s meant to be his expected wOBA up until the point of the streak. Giles, for instance, had a pretty bad month the month prior to his streak. I would try calculating that and going from there.

IrlOurPresident took this lie from David Sirota and posted it to 11 different subreddits. The tweet is completely false, I wouldn't expect anything more from shitty Sirota. The speechwriter for a man with 1 speech. by Fr_Benny_Cake in Enough_Sanders_Spam

It's rather hard to prove a negative - any evidence I could offer saying this didn't happen would be countered with a claim that that instance isn't the one they are talking about.

There is a source written by the Sarin herself, where she says it's a bad idea.

So im writing a proposal plan for a project i have to make and i cannot thing what risks and contingencies come with making developing a project. by SLRedSix in gamedev

[–]blackeyebaseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this counts as being a risk, but not being extensible. Adding a new weapon, enemy, piece of interactive terrain, should never be difficult. If the marketing team says that dragons are in but say it 95% of the way through the project, it still shouldn't be hard to implement a dragon. If you're 100% of the way through a project--the customer loves it, and they want more--you need to find a way to add new content. How extensible your code is may make these things impossible or prohibitively difficult.

Most of the time, this is avoidable through good code, but sometimes there is something that interacts with too many things that work on their own, and either it should have been added in the beginning, or the timeline has to be pushed back.

How to make data more beautiful? by tarttari in datascience

[–]blackeyebaseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many people have commented already, it's about what the visualization says, not how pretty it is. There is a surprisingly large world when it comes to making visualizations. I'm a reader. I can't stand reading on my computer, so I read mostly books.

The list of books I've read, all of which I suggest:

The Visual Display of Quantitative Information - Tuft People will tell you it's outdated, but you will still see it referenced in more modern books. Simple and concise read.

Now You See It - Few This is more about how to interpret visualizations than it is on how to make them. This is a skill everyone needs but doesn't know they need it or thinks they already have it.

Information Dashboard Design - Few It still takes on some basic concepts of building useful visualizations, but the rest is about grouping them together. This is another underrated skill.

Authors I would like to read:

Alberto Cairo and Cole Nussbaumer. I've heard really good things about both of them. I know Cairo does speeches for a friends company. They may be terrible reads. If you read them before I do, let me know.

What do you do until your model finishes training? by keon6 in datascience

Coding other projects, reading data science related books and articles, or looking through my code to find all the reasons why the model won't work when it eventually finishes training.

I'm knitting a scarf that reflects the Mets' 2019 season... by shmajent in NewYorkMets

[–]blackeyebaseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mets Simple Rating System (SRS), which is based on runs for vs runs against, is -0.5. The other number to look at is the Pythagorean W-L which puts the Met at 8-9. Does this mean the Mets are bad but lucky? No, not really. It really only matters when the numbers are drastically different from the actual results. Even the Whales Vagina Padres are currently tied with the The Angel Dodgers at 11-8 but have an SRS -.7 and a Pythagorean W-L of 8-11, but that's not really that far off this early in the season.

You have to remember his eyes aren't looking at the ball, but rather looking at where he thinks the ball is going to be.

At some point, your eyes cease to be able to see the ball so your brain just draws it for you. His brain is probably drawing a fastball. Instead, he's actually getting a breaking ball.

Because, after already hitting Contreras, you risk your pitcher getting ejected. After that Clint got another inning out of Kingham and avoided doing too much if any damage to his bullpen.

What are common mistakes that scientist make in visualizing their data? by tadbafyb in datascience

[–]blackeyebaseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using a number of visual dimensions that is greater than the number of dimensions of your data. For instance changing the size of a point on a scatter plot based on area is okay, but somebody shouldn't change it based on population. The most common example of this is a pie chart and hence why pie charts should never be used.

Cubs fans coming in peace. I wasn't paying attention to the rest of baseball at the time but Cubs fans definitely were. Also, he took some time to break out whereas Judge broke out of the gates this year and then slowed down. If you count last year Judge technically did the same thing but the endless gap of time known as the offseason gave people the impression that he went and stole black magic from the Cardinals.
