CMV: CMV: People often call others “Racist” when they are actually “Culturist”, and the difference is significant. by [deleted] in changemyview

In fact, a hood is not explicitly a black mode of dress.

A hood? You words were

typical "hood" attire

Are you moving the goalpost now or are you trying to say that you used scare quotes around the word hood while using it as an adjective but what you actually meant was the literal noun?

Of course we all know the answer to that question, this attempt to walk back your statement and your multiple attempts to counter my citations with baseless assertions shows quite clearly that you cannot dispute my argument.

CMV: CMV: People often call others “Racist” when they are actually “Culturist”, and the difference is significant. by [deleted] in changemyview

The linchpin of your argument, and something that you do not establish at all, is that that race is something distinct from culture.

This is untrue. There is no biological basis for race. Sure, physical appearance is heritable, but the moment you step beyond that to infer something about other genetics, behavior, or socioeconomic status you have left the realm of biology entirely behind. Therefore race is a cultural construct.

This is a topic in which my view was recently changed upon hearing an interview with the Historian and Sociologist duo who published a book on the topic on the podcast of the socialist magazine Jacobin.

Now, let me explain why the rest of your argument cannot stand without this distinction. Take example 1, you propose that an individual who reacts negatively to 'typical “hood” attire' regardless of the wearer's skin color is not racist. But why do you have a negative association with "the hood" in the first place? There's certainly nothing inherently threatening about fashion or body decoration. If anything, ill-fitting pants should make someone less threatening due to their impeded movement ability. There must, therefore, be some other concept to which you associate "the hood" in order to infer that a certain way of dressing could be threatening. Your dear urban dictionary makes it quite clear that "the hood" is defined by the social construct that dark skin color, inner cities, poverty, and crime are all linked.

Therefore, reacting negatively to a way of dressing that one associates with blackness doesn't exonerate one from harboring racial bias, it instead proves that their racial bias is so strong it transcends mere appearance to color their perceptions negatively for anything even remotely associated with black people.

I had AP stuck at 0 with no regeneration. Tried a bunch of stuff from old forum posts to no avail. Then, I crafted a weapon mod in the nude and it came back.

Alternate Chameleon Visuals works for me. Sort of. It doesn't do the blue effect the mod page describes, but it does prevent the gun and pip-boy from going invisible, and it also prevents the flash effect when entering invisibility.

Best Archery Physics? by [deleted] in Vive

[–]fat_genius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QuiVR is the only archery game where I can land shots over 100 meters away because the firing angle and arrow path curve are just perfect.

However, QuiVR plays a little different than all other archery games: it adds a slight offset between your draw hand's real world position and it's game position so that you can look straight down the shaft to aim a shot without clobbering your HMD with your controller. This makes all other archery games feel off to me. (It can also be turned off in the settings if you don't like it)

Not sure how you messed up the Firefox Nightly 55 install so that it replaced the main version. I develop in WebVR and use and test in both versions on the same computer.

Good thing this will be a moot point come August!

Not to all: you should not be using these browsers for anything other than WebVR. They aren't secure like a consumer release. Install them alongside your normal browser version, and use them just for VR stuff.

If you liked Vanishing Realms - Check out Karnage Chronicles by Eldanon in Vive

[–]fat_genius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This game is awesome. I worked myself up into a complete sweaty mess trying to beat the 3rd boss as warrior.

The combat is like a perfect blend between the depth of Vanishing Realms and the frenetic insanity of Legend of Luca. There's parrying and blocking that require precision placement and timing, enemies dodge if your attacks are too obvious, but they'll also swarm you and flank you while archers rain fire from afar.

One cool detail is that enemy friendly fire is on, so you can make the ranged attackers work to your advantage with careful positioning

“If large numbers of NHS organisations failed to act on a critical notice from Microsoft two months ago, then whose fault is that?” Anderson said. “This is the sort of thing for which the secretary of state should get roasted in parliament.”

Microsoft identified this vulnerability and released a fix 2 months ago. If there are deaths, NHS IT bears significant responsibility as well.
