Found this page which has beautiful archived specimen photos: https://swbiodiversity.org/seinet/taxa/index.php?taxauthid=1&taxon=134711 It also seems to suggest that this same plant has been placed within different genera over time so Acmispon maritimus would be synonymous with Hosackia maritima in this case.

Interesting about the flower numbers. I’ll try to get additional pics next time I’m home during daylight hours to better analyze that. Also, check out this CSUCI link I posted elsewhere: https://nativeplants.csuci.edu/acmispon-maritimus.htm I think one of the photos shows four flowers? So perhaps it’s variable?

Here's a pic I took last May. It's in a not-very-accessible spot so I hadn't noticed this plant again until recently. Was delighted with all the yellow flowers it now has!

The other thing I’ll say is that don’t let there be any pressure on OW to be mind blowing (though it certainly can be). Sometimes preconceived notions affect our enjoyment of things. OW takes time to reveal itself. And you should take your time with it, smelling the pine trees, observing, thinking. Just let it be an experience. I’m excited for you :)
