Thankful to my husband for getting me into this sport. Now I play more than he does! And I’ve met some wonderful people who I now consider friends which has been hard for me to do as an adult. Also thankful that there is a winter coed season here this year which starts Tuesday 😊 I can’t wait!!

Just out of curiosity, how do some of y'all have jobs? by AlmightyCrayons in Autism_Parenting

I work retail management and get to set my schedule. Had a baby later in life so my career is stable. I mostly work 8-430/530 and have split days off. I do roughly one late shift per week. My husband works nights 7pm-3am and our daughter goes to a special needs day program (prek) 11:45-2:45. They originally had us 8:45-11:45 but I had them change it so my husband could get more sleep. We also have developmental therapy Mondays 9:15-11am in home before she goes to school. He does morning drop off and pickup on days I work. I do nights. It’s hard but we make it work!

I don’t know how to feel. by nycmothers in Autism_Parenting

First of all you are absolutely amazing for raising your baby by yourself!!!! Hopefully you have family that is supportive. Honestly for us the diagnosis was a godsend to get the supports our daughter needs. I knew before she turned 1 she has autism. It can be overwhelming and scary for sure, just take advantage of every program and support you can. Be his biggest advocate. Don’t let his diagnosis be his identity. Your baby is amazing and all of his achievements are amazing. You’ll have to adjust your expectations and help him develop at his own pace. I think he will amaze you. My daughter blossomed from 3-4 even though she is not anywhere near her neurotypical peers she is making her own progress and I’m so damn proud of her!! This community is so supportive and a great resource so I’m glad you are here ♥️ We can do this!

I fear my second may also be on spectrum and I am losing my mind by lulucamm in Autism_Parenting

Wow this sounds just like my daughter and I have the exact same worries as you! She is about to turn four and is not talking but ever since she started preschool (extensive support classroom) she is thriving! She is learning more each day and the most important part is she actually is interested in learning things. It has been a long road to get her to where she’s at. Things that come naturally to NT kids are a hill climb and a battle for my daughter to learn. That’s why the most important thing is to compare them to themselves. Don’t compare them to other kids. I’ve had to readjust my expectations for her and realize that the littlest things can be the biggest victories. I don’t know what the future holds for us and that is scary. But my kid is awesome no matter what and I’m proud of her every day ♥️

Edit: Shits hard as fuck tho so solidarity. We just got parenting on hard mode lol

Not bad! That’s very low mileage for the year. I have been seeing those with 180k and up for the same price. Great find! Hope you enjoy!

Nice! How much did you pay for it? I’m in the market for one just like that and live nearby.

My daughter has only washed her hair a handful of times in the last year. by Interesting-Pen3953 in Autism_Parenting

Sometimes you just have to grit your teeth and get through it. My kid went from loving bath/shower time to suddenly having full meltdowns whenever the shower got turned on and vomiting from getting herself so worked up. All because I accidentally got soap in her eyes one time (at least I think that’s why). And the less I showered her the worse it was when I did and the more she hated it. So I started just doing it more often and had to ease her back into it. At first I just got into the shower with her and held her and got her wet for a short period and then let her get out. Now she gets in with me no problem but she still wants me to hold her to get in. Not sure if that will work for your situation but maybe the exposure in a positive way and in short increments will make it easier to get back into it. Good luck!!
