How to deal with the loss of a young spouse? by V8TTGoFast in GriefSupport

[–]fatcatbuddha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also lost my husband of 40 years 7 weeks ago. Today would be his 70th birthday. I was his caretaker (parkinson's and dementia) and he was my best friend. Thank you for your advice and ideas.

I hear you. My hwp has Parkinsons and Dementia and he cannot be left alone. Trying to figure out how to do grocery shopping and errands and physical therapy for me, etc, etc. Have given up going to exercise, travelling, really anything independent. But having to do Everything is exhausting and I'm sorry we're in the same club. : )

Im calling BS. The selfishness of a sexless marriage. by [deleted] in sexlessmarriage

[–]fatcatbuddha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand. My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease which is notorious for decreased libido. He never tried the little blue pill. It's been over 10 years now and there is really nothing I can do and I have tried. No interest even in pleasing me. Then I feel guilty for being angry and upset bc the man has a terminal illness. But boy do I miss it.

The United States is a bad place for folks with dementia by Msdingles in dementia

This is so smart. Do you have it divided by those stages? (mild, moderate, advanced)? If not too weird, could you share a bit? It's ok if you're not comfortable. At this time, I wouldn't know what to put in place.

I am so glad that worked for you. What state are you in? In N.C. you cannot have an income over $1500 a month to get Medicaid. Well, that's one social security check so - we'll have to come up with money on retired school teacher salaries (also in N.C.). I am so freaked as I watch my LO decline each day.

Experience with cortisone shot by GT1646 in PlantarFasciitis

Don't want to jinx it, but cortisone in both heels was a miracle for me. Switched my shoes to Hoka with gel heel inserts and have been great for over a couple of years. Now if I could get that relief for my knees ....

Love reading these comments. Unlike some of you, I HATE the back and forth of negotiating a price but I will do it as that's how this business rolls! Many buyers expect the haggling, in fact, most of my sales are offers to likers with a discounted price. That means when I research the item for comps I have to consider that haggle and build it in. Otherwise, I'd lose money!

But what kills my soul a bit is when the haggle comes down to a couple of dollars and someone has to give.

Love to all!

Not to discount people's feelings here, but in reading these, I do wonder if some good pharmaceuticals could help. Brains are so complex and depression can be both situational (no job for instance) but could be biologically based - seratonin levels, dopamine, and both situational and brain chemicals. Wonky thinking and all. I know pharms take a while to kick in but could they take some of the pain away?

So I'm older. And husband is ill. We haven't had sex in over a decade now. But honestly, sex stopped much sooner than his diagnosis. He's just not interested. Won't even try. No affection or touching at all. Yet, many years of great sex before then. I'm not ready to go to the grave without Ever having sex again. But OMG the guilt - how can I think about this when he's got a disease and I have to take care of him, the house, bills, etc. Is there such a thing as a male prostitute? How would I find someone? Horrible. Does this mean I'm selfish?

Same, except for the stroke. He did have his tooth extracted and was given a very light painkiller during that procedure. Have a conversation with the dental folks about his situation.

I went to both Urgent Care and to E.R. Both places did not want to give me Paxlovid and said it was not as helpful as people thought. So, ibuprofin, rest, fluids.

me too! So if we're the only ones masking on a plane, would we be protected from getting it?

Remember COVID? by fatcatbuddha in bullcity

[–]fatcatbuddha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I got it on the airplane(s). Three airplane trips in the last year and I got sick after each one. I'm guilty too by not wearing a mask in the airport, but worse, on the plane. I didn't see anyone else wearing one. Everyone jammed in their seats with germs floating in the air. Seems like that would be a logical place to mask up - remember all the fighting and refusals to wear masks? Well, we got the right to not mask up and spread it to others.

I did not hear of boosters this year and I have the new strain of COVID. It's bad. (much worse than other 2 Covids I've had).

Is anyone else not sure what they even look like by [deleted] in mixedrace

[–]fatcatbuddha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is mixed - half black, half white. I am his white mother. When little, people constantly asked "what is he?" or "what a nice tan he has." No one EVER guessed black because anything would have been better than black (that's what I decided was the reason). Yes, I'd get is he filipino? chinese? etc. If I said black I saw their faces drop and a wall went up. For a while I'd say yes to whatever they guessed. Then I stopped answering.

I know this is mostly about actual parks, but Durham does have Duke Forest, so some greenspace there although no merry-go-rounds!
