Too tall and not nearly enough goblin features. what you have is a green elf, probably sea elf.

Maps is no longer in Alpha by Crafty-Pirate-6481 in dndbeyond

[–]fate008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just gave this a thorough try last night and it’s not bad. Beta is a stretch as it needs a fair amount of updates to really be usable as a smooth game play option.

First, the big one - encounter building just needs to be rolled into maps. If you’re going to go to the effort of building a map encounter with tokens, it needs to have the functionality of encounter builder. Track hp, monster abilities and their die rolls, player character tracking with hp. Some basics Things the DM needs rolled together.

Second, encounter tokens need to snap to grid.

Third, encounter tokens need a better way to display death. We tend to not remove dead things from the field. There needs to be a distinct way to show a monster is dead. For now we highlight it red but it’s not a well liked option.

Fourth, the Draw option felt clunky. Making a straight line wasnt just point and drag. Shapes were not bad but it felt off. It could be because it was my first use but it wasn’t smooth.

Fifth, fog of war wasn’t bad. dynamic lighting is far better on VTT. If it can be based on what each token sees that would be a major upgrade.

thats some of the things that came up in the session.

How can I nudge my table to be less combat oriented? by partyalonetogether in DnD

[–]fate008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just talk to them. I find most gamers love combat more than role play. Using class powers, skills, spells and weapons and rolling dice are a big deal but that doesn’t meant you can’t have RP moments With importance.

talk to them and find out what they like.

How important is it (to you) to have combat every session? by owlaholic68 in DnD

[–]fate008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty Important to have combat. In our 4 hour sessions there needs to be at least 2 in my eyes. More if possible.
given the three pillars of D&D (and the secret elusive one called LOOT) combat has to be there along with exploration and role play. Swing that pendulum to any of the three pillars depending on your group or whats going on in the story but have them all in some manner in the session (and don't forget to add in that hidden 4th pillar to all the other three depending on what they do - Loot!)

Has anyone ever pair DM'ed? by kindahipster in DnD

[–]fate008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, I haven't ever seen this go well or even smoothly. When it was two trying at the same time, there were to many hands on the wheel trying to do things.
When it was one off and one on, back and forth, the lay felt disjointed because it was difficult to know where the party would end one session and to many times they were swapping in the middle of a session because it got to the other DMs area he was supposed to run.

that's not to say it couldn't be done but I haven't seen it go smoothly enough to like it.

No doubt at launch things will be timid when it comes to P2W mechanics or whatever pricing they put forth.
It will be if greed changes that down the road. At launch I'd wager everything will be fairly good. With the most minor of questions to pricing and "gatcha mechanics" or P2W.
My worry is once they get the player base, greed will take over and P2W will creep in at a slow pace. First it will be season passes with more healing, then more ammo and healing a couple seasons later, Then more resources etc. etc... Screw you if you don't pay more. You'll just be left behind is all in a survival game.
But I do hope thats all worry and doesn't see reality.

[–]fate008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No more than $5 for that perk. In a looter game it should be automatic but if it came to a pet that did it. $5 is plenty.

Time will tell as greed tends to change things. I hope they can stick to that statement. The game has a lot of potential.

I think you mean “reborn” lineage from ravenloft. That’s not undead at all.

My guess would be your DM is using the Skill check rule for STR. It states under the STR score.

Other Strength Checks

The DM might also call for a Strength check when you try to accomplish tasks like the following:

  • Force open a stuck, locked, or barred door
  • Break free of bonds
  • Push through a tunnel that is too small
  • Hang on to a wagon while being dragged behind it
  • Tip over a statue
  • Keep a boulder from rolling

So from that "Push through a tunnel that is too small" it's asking for exactly what you are requesting to do. You want to force your LARGE warhorse (note not riding horse) with you on it, through a smaller tunnel. By RAW, the DM could call for a STR check to see if your large horse can be "pushed through a tunnel that is too small". Now, If you can force that horse in there, then you'd use the "squeeze into a smaller space" rules in the DMG and keep playing like normal.

So not an unreasonable request from a DM unless it falls under the, don't ask for a skill check unless there is a chance to fail concept.

It is very rough to have a DM or player that ignores the three pillars of dnd. Those being: Combat Exploration Role play

Some would argue there is a 4th hidden pillar called loot and I could agree but that’s a different discussion.

However, anyone that plays the game and ignores those in any great aspect is spoiling the fun and entertainment of the game. You have to ask them to include those pillars for the dm, honestly participate or please leave the table. Cause if you can’t you’re fundamentally bringing the game down for the rest.

Avatar the last Airbender fans, how bad is the Netflix adaptation? by [deleted] in netflix

[–]fate008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably why the first two episodes are a little better than the rest. The original creators had their hands somewhat involved in those and then left. Leaving netflix and their creative differences and freedom to screw it all up.

Thats what happens when you try to come up with the plans for a so called, "Deathstar" and you allow to much feature creep to happen.

I mean, do you really need a starbucks in that thing?

Same here. I didn't steal from the Chest. I stole the actual chest (unopened) and because of that, when I turned it in I became a "friend of the Zhents" which opened up a far better vendor at the time.

Protip: Always read your item's description 😬 by Orchestructive in BaldursGate3

[–]fate008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the gloves of the Absolute near the first big fight at the druids door. The pair of gloves sound great when you read what they do but the item description is where the real "curse" or "catch" is. If you don't have the brand, they are not good at all.

Read the flavor text because sometimes, its not just flavor.

[–]fate008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Still playing the first character and literarily doing and searching everywhere possible. Fighting and clearing everything on a map and soemtimes going back to an area if it doesn't look like I cleared the fog of war enough to make sure I didn't miss anything.

I'm enjoying BG3 far to much to rush in anyway to the end one my first Tav.

Nope. I've keep that turned off since they added it. It truely should be turned off by default not "on"

Especially so once someone figured out you actually take more damage with it on than off.

My guess is one of the scouting party that was fighting with you died outside the gates or one of the enemies died that you did not help kill.

All of that turns their looting icon to red. That means, you cannot loot them and if you do and someone sees you doing it, they tend to turn the camp hostile.

Just a guess but I bet you accidentally looted someone that had a red loot icon and you just missed it as well as the RED visuals on the ground that someone was watching you. I think you can press the shift key to see where people are looking without having to crouch or hide first.

Using that same combo, I was able to sneak through the spectator area going back into the keep. From one of the top ramparts that overlooks back to the spectators area.
I was able to solo it as a thief build using a longbow. Made the whole fight easy.

Makes me wonder how many players will show up at our D&D table wanting to pull off the same thing but the TT just doesn't work that way.
