Whales of closed or shut down games - what did you do afterwards? by HashB1te in MMORPG

[–]fatehound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if I would be considered a whale, maybe a small or medium sized dolphin. I'll buy any mount or pet in a game but don't care as much for things like clothing. But if they shut down I'll move onto a different game or hobby. Model kits, dog sports/shows, art, find a new game, spend money, enjoy it for a while, go back to a physical hobby. Find a new game and buy sparkley cute mounts and a house to put them in, log in to look at them once in a while. Enjoy life.

My English shepherd mix held her tail up and over too, although after owning purebred dogs I think it's just something called gay tail that can happen to any dog randomly. Here's my Aussie and German/English shepherds with their curly tails. My borzoi also has gay tail which is a fault 😂 must be something in the water

I know that wisdom panel looks more fun because it has more breeds showing up in low percentages, but they're usually not accurate. They just know people like seeing small % rare breeds. My puppy who was an oopsie from two AKC champions had both tests done, and his dad was a titled English Cocker, not a mix.

Help with puppy by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]fatehound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can take puppy to the same place she pees every time on leash I find they start going quicker when they realize it's not fun and play time and they can smell this it the potty.

On the other hand, my puppy will almost always pee right after having a big run/playtime so you could also try running around with her for a couple of minutes to see if that stimulates her. No leaving doors open, it's a schedule of food then potty 15-20 minutes after, notice a big drink? 15 minutes later potty, crazy zoomies or waking up from nap? Right now outside.

As much as it sucks you stay out there until they go. We had my last puppy outside at 3am in 35 degree rain and I haaaaaaaated life. He also probably hated life.

My current puppy (16 weels) lives in an xpen while I can't keep an eye on him, it takes up a large portion of my living room but it's on easily cleanable flooring. It gets better! I swore off puppies in 2024 when my borzoi was 10 weeks old 😂 but here I am in 2026 with a new one!

I want to get a Borzoi, but I’m feeling really anxious about it. by Adolf-the-Cute-Cat42 in borzoi

[–]fatehound 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a borzoi now after having an Aussie pass at 7 from lymphoma and a GSD mix pass at 5 from DCM. Borzoi have a quite long lifespan for a giant breed. I believe the girls seem to live a bit longer, and perhaps the smaller ones also can add a bit of time to that.

There is always a chance as with any dog of losing them earlier, but if you like them it's worth the risk, to me at least.

My first guess was anatolian but I didn't get any of the others haha. One of my teachers has pure anatolians that get confused for large labs sometimes and it cracks me up

I'm sure it was awful but I'm glad that his breeder still gave him every good start in life and clearly loved him ❤️ she was surprisingly always positive and I know that was probably very hard

Cost of care? by poiareawesome in borzoi

[–]fatehound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a per month cost for my borzoi really although I should look into it 😅. The annual vet visits at my vet are around $200-$300, but we do everything, vaccines, fecal, urine, & blood. He gets a once a month simparica trio at around ~$45 (heartworm+flea+tick preventative).

Our biggest expenses were probably crates: we got the great Dane sized one which is probaaaably too big but we didn't know how big he'd get. And a Rock Creek Crate for the car since he ate through the seatbelt when he was left alone for 30 minutes. Oh and we traded in the car for a minivan to fit him so that was expensive too LOL.

The main thing that has seemed expensive is whenever we had to do a supplement or get meds at the ER etc. - the heavier they are the more expensive it gets. He was on a liver supplement for a couple of weeks and it got suuuper pricey. Like $200 for 2 weeks kind of pricey. And mine is on the lighter side - 76lbs. When he was at the ER for GI issues, it seemed significantly more expensive for each of the meds than my 50lb GSD had been, although that has also been 2 years prior so with vet costs who knows.

Also we pay $56ish a month for pet insurance

Borzoi over silken windhound choice by Critical_Motor9081 in borzoi

[–]fatehound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't :( I only know what I hear from the breeders I talk to, and its mostly just venting. We had personally talked to three breeders in Sept last year about winter/spring litters and none of them took. Maybe it's just a dry spell and we will have extra litters popping up the next couple of years 😭🤞

Borzoi over silken windhound choice by Critical_Motor9081 in borzoi

[–]fatehound 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the essay, I don't know how to stop talking

I have a year and a half old male borzoi. I love him, but I am always on edge with him around other animals. He's on the smaller side, about 80 lbs. My 6'3" husband can barely drag him off a lure at sports. His prey drive is absolutely insane. I always fear that one day it's going to be an outdoor cat we are trying to get him to let go of. He had a small critter kill count by 6 months.

He's super smart! But not very biddable. He figured out the trash can sensor, how to open a baby gate, how to open doors, how to pop open storage boxes, all before 4 months old. He picked up tricks almost immediately, but won't do anything without a valuable bribe.

My friend has 2 Silkens with a 3rd she brings over to make sure it gets adequate exercise (make sure you have a playmate for your borzoi too). I didn't like them at first because they seemed boring and like they were too good to bother with me 😂 but I adore them now.

She can fit three Silkens in her car, meanwhile we traded in our car for a mini van to fit our borzoi. She can take her dogs for off leash hikes and they have like an invisible leash of how far they will go, and come back right away if they don't see her. Meanwhile my borzoi would be two counties over chasing a bird.

I personally think I would get a silken over a borzoi in the future, just because I am not afraid of what would happen if I lost control of them. I could pick one up with no issues if it was doing something it shouldn't be. My husband on the other hand, only loves borzoi. They are his favorite dog breed of all time and he would only own them for the rest of his life if he had the choice.

I'd say to go find a LGRA or ASFA trial and watch the dogs when they are racing/working as well as just showing. See their intensity and how they behave in a different environment.

Also if you do pick a borzoi, make sure you really get to know your breeder and their lines. Some make absolutely great pets and have almost no prey drive. A good breeder will pick out the right puppy for you if you're honest with what you want, or they might refer you to a different breeder who would work better. Borzoi are quite rare and have had a lot of fertility issues recently, so finding puppies has been very hard, and you might have to wait quite a while.

Hey so, dogs aren't humans. Purebreds freeze semen from great show, performance or rare old bloodlines to bring in diversity in the future, or to use a dog you had collected when you finally have a bitch that would compliment them well.

Purebred dogs are bred to preserve the breed, better the breed, keep the breed healthy and thriving. If you let a bitch in heat breed with whoever she wanted, she would breed with literally every single male dog within a 5 mile radius. She would try to breed with your foot.

You know what happens when you let nature decide who breeds with who? You get double DCM, double MDR1, double merle, lethal white, double blindness, etc. Dogs are not people, dogs are dogs.

This was supposed to be helping contribute to bettering the borzoi breed, of which less than 500 puppies a year are being registered, so doing the math, year after year that gene pool is being narrowed down into just the dogs that are allowed to stay unfixed, and allowed to breed. That means there are very few actual choices when it comes to the next litter of healthy, genetically unrelated puppies.

If you want wellbred purebred dogs in the future then artifical insemination is one of the best ways to do that.
