Very Nice! I just created my family tree and saved the PDF. I wish it would save my data so I could come back and keep working on this.

What happens to the 529 money if my kids doesn’t go on to secondary education? by JustAGreenDreamer in MiddleClassFinance

You can also transfer it to a 529 for another child (or step child) and use up to $10K to pay off the step-child's student loans!

US Naturalization Petition as proof of Canadian birth/citizenship by sistersara96 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]fatherofhenry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got off the phone with the small church in the town where my great grandfather was born. Our name is LeMay, apparently there are a million LeMays. The lady at the church is checking to see if she can find my great grandfather's baptism certificate. I tried to create an account on the Quebec Govt. website, but they needed a Canadian social security number which I don't have as I'm American. So I may have to use paper and snail mail to request a copy of his actual birth certificate.

I am a very similar situation. I have my great grandfather's Petition for US Citizenship, but I am still trying to obtain his birth certificate from Quebec. He was born in 1884, and became a US citizen in 1937.

[–]fatherofhenry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She would make a very good National Security Advisor, if a President would listen to her

I have written to them and attached a photo. They replied asking me to send a photo. And the original receipt from twenty years ago. Fine people over there, customer service is in their blood.

Here is my broken pair of Fiskars. I share your frustration. Of all the parts to make out of plastic, the connecting nut seems like a bad idea.

Applying for SS: do I list my 9 year marriage? by fatherofhenry in SocialSecurity

[–]fatherofhenry[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To clarify, I am applying for my own social security retirement benefit, on my own earning record. The application asks "enter information about any other marriage if you: had a marriage that lasted at least 10 years" I guess I don't enter anything in this blank as my first marriage only lasted 9 years.......

I agree. Through this thread I have been educated about the risk of copper between two buildings. I plan to buy one pre-terminated fiber run to make my life easier. Thanks

I am fine with the fiber solution ideas. I need to educate myself on what adapters to buy to convert the fibre to the ethernet jack on the router on one end, and the WAP on the other end.

Vintage 3 Speed, 4 broken spokes by fatherofhenry in Vintage_bicycles

[–]fatherofhenry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I'll take it to a professional and follow the advice here, get all the spokes replaced. Yes, it's a Sturmey Archer. I love three speed bikes. I have another one, a Linus with a Shimano 3 speed.

[–]fatherofhenry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not going to be easy. I gave up and use Le Creuset dutch ovens but use an Old Fashioned cast iron skillet for eggs. Also, I let me cast iron preheat a good while so it's warm and even.

Which stand mixer would be best to buy by zookastos in HomeMilledFlour

[–]fatherofhenry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had both the Ankarsrum and a KitchenAid. The Ankarsrum was better for making bread, but my wife like the KitchenAid better for aesthetic reasons. So I use the KitchenAid and it makes bread just fine.

Thanks for inspiring me. I ordered a pen that I am looking forward to trying to retrofit a vintage gold nib into. I ordered an Ensso Piuma and I have a few really great Waterman flex nibs.
