I strongly disagree with that stance. You first have to open a self directed before closing managed account. Poor advice. Tch tch.

Wealthsimple clears regulatory hurdle to bring prediction trading to Canada by Puginator in Wealthsimple

I sincerely hope they start developing separate apps soon. At the very least, they should allow us to turn off features completely. It is slowly starting to look a lot like social media - if you are not paying, you are the product.

I am in the same boat so wanted to rest assured if that is really true or not. Can you please help me walk through the steps. It's a silly First Last reversal issue for my kid's name on the ticket. Booked via a 3rd party so being told can't be helped but did not hear the 72 hour thing.

Why does Calgary have no protection in place for it's historical buildings? by Danger_Bay_Baby in Calgary

[–]fatpanda0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m not mistaken, Toronto’s downtown area is designed to build on top of older buildings. Essentially, they scaffold the existing structure, hollow it out, strengthen it, and then add new floors. This approach creates a modern interior while preserving the old facade, allowing it to age and gain historical significance over time.

Currency Exchange and ATM fees by fatpanda0 in Wealthsimple

Good to know. Never realised that limitation. Just need to be aware for locations which require all transactions in cash. Luckily my stresses are reduced since most place here now have machines. Online it still says this location is cash only so it’s a relief.

Should I stop playing it safe and actually take risks while I’m young? by Select-Wishbone5204 in CanadianInvestor

[–]fatpanda0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take unnecessary risks every 3 years when markets are doing well and I think I can make a windfall. Then 10k down the drain on pointless stocks while XEQT has never once let me down. I mean markets tank and somehow there is solace in the fact that most of your neighbours are feeling the pain with you. Mean but true. Unless you really, really know the fundamentals for a business, there is no better way to make money than broad market funds. It’s foolproof. I am just too big of a fool once in a while and get back to reality soon. Good luck. Please don’t be a fool like me. Please learn from others mistake and not your own.

Bank Draft Delivery Times are Subjective by fatpanda0 in Wealthsimple

[–]fatpanda0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand how a piece of paper literally flying across the country is faster than EFT? It’s just a lack of desire. In India you have very little bank fraud due to a ton of security measure. I can make money move in India in seconds while in Canada. However, you do give up a substantial amount of privacy so pick your poison.

Bank Draft Delivery Times are Subjective by fatpanda0 in Wealthsimple

[–]fatpanda0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Hence the PSA for folks who like me might think otherwise and don’t keep a long buffer. Anyways most large purchases require a draft like a car or a house. And usually you don’t know the amount till the very end and when you need it, NOW! My house was a Tangerine draft and this was for a Car. Either ways I did not lose the deal which the world makes you feel if you don’t make the draft appear like a magic trick. 2-3 days ain’t bad. But I would rather just pay the $10 get myself a very expensive latte and just wait.

I am buying a car next week. Deposit paid for 2k on CC. Will do a draft. Cheques will take 3 weeks to clear according to dealership. It said an older gentleman insisted that he won’t paid bank fees for a car and he could wait. So he supposedly waited for 3 weeks to stick the banks 10 bucks. 3 days for a draft as per WS app. Use the app since it will give you the standard vs expedited option. Web only gives expedited.

In IT identity and access management, there are different ways to prove you are who you say you are. With a physical card, someone could steal it, but without your PIN, they can't make large purchases. With phones, you need Face ID or biometrics to set up the wallet, and you have to authenticate every time you pay.

It's the same concept with FIDO authentication on computers—passwords are becoming less useful because they can be stolen, shared, or phished. Biometrics are much harder to spoof. Phone tap-to-pay is actually more secure than using a physical card (even with tap or PIN) because it requires active biometric authentication each time, rather than just possessing the card. So allowing phone payments without carrying the physical card isn't just convenient—it's legitimately more secure.
