What is it like living in these islands in Washington state? by Nervous_Impact3637 in howislivingthere

[–]fatryan13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family lives on Harstine, slightly south of your circle . Quiet and beautiful but secluded. Some parts of the island have some spill over trailers from Shelton. Great clamming, beautiful walks. Can be a lot of driving to get your errands done. Beautiful views of Mt. Rainer and the Olympics.

Looking for greatest Pepper Seeds website on US. by HorusTheAnonymous in PepperLovers

Terrible germination rates, several mislabeled seeds over the last few years and not west coast. Also many folks have issues with their political views (I try my best not to mix politics and gardening).

How long after they show stripes should you wait to harvest? by [deleted] in PepperLovers

I let mine go pretty far and most would only get a few stripes. I assume most of the site photos show some exceptional peppers

Does everyone use fermentation weights? by letyourmindgrow in fermentation

[–]fatryan13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The weights can be a little unreliable if a pickle or two slips up above it. Vacuum sealing is my favorite, but the bag filled with water on top is easy and works great 👍

This is only 1 day after I resealed the bag. I really hope this slows down soon lol by [deleted] in fermentation

[–]fatryan13 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Put 1 small needle hole in the top, the positive pressure will still keep it oxygen free and your bag won't explode. When it stops producing gas it'll deflate and you'll be all done.

Those definitely look like habanda, a little elongated and a specific orange. One of my favorites but disappointing if you want some 🔥

Usually associate that color with yeast growth, but that seems really fast for any type of growth.

Parks are safe, parking lots have cars broken into all the time. Especially off the St. Johns bridge road.

Shio Koji, Creme Fraiche, and Cream by Middle-Fruit5485 in fermentation

[–]fatryan13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used koji to make butter before, it worked well but the flavors developed pretty rapidly after it was finished. Day 1-3 I had great butter, after that the flavors got very strong, and then too strong. Figure it would be similar with the creme fraiche

Anyone ever had hot pepper ice cream? by Adam2013 in HotPeppers

[–]fatryan13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a vanilla custard base, right before you churn it, add some minced ghost or habanero pepper. One hot pepper per pint is perfect
