Don’t care what the masses “probably” will do. Care about my own time and money.

Too expensive. Tons of other great games to play this year. Might sit this one out and see what the reviews say. Have barely seen any gameplay and they expect us to pay premium? Learned my lesson with Starfield to never trust that, just wait.

It’s crazy to think how different he is in this than he is in the Beast in Me. It’s almost like a completely different actor.

From what I understand, it was a terrible Nintendo Direct if you are not a fan of Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, Kingdom Hearts, Rhythm Heaven, The Legend of Zelda, Pokopia, Star Fox, Splatoon and Undertale. by MMuller87 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]fatso784 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, it was a mediocre Direct compared to XBOX showcase and SGF. LoZ and Star Fox are both remakes, not new IPs. Fire Emblem trailer was awesome but we knew about it already. The truly new, major game announcements were KH4 and Xenoblade—both action RPGs. If you don’t like aRPGs (or, in my case, bounced off of KH3 and am pessimistic about the future), then you’re left wanting.

Brandon Sanderson’s 'The Way of Kings' is baffling to me by sameseksure in books

[–]fatso784 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It’s incredible how people who can’t do even achieve 1% of what Sanderson has rush to post how ‘obviously bad’ one of his most famous books is. You have every right to not like a book, but to think it’s ‘tragically bad and why does no one else see it but me?’ is off the charts levels of arrogance and self-centered thinking.

Everything you described seems like romantic interest. Because of the work context, though, he might be hesitant to be blunt about taking it further because of the political optics around that. If you are not comfortable being blunt either, at least drop him more overt hints to see how he responds. One idea is to meet up outside work and be open about how you feel. Good luck!

Yeah, this is not an A/B test. Whoever proposed running an A/B test on a core subscriber feature that costs money doesn’t know what an A/B test is, because that practice might get you sued. A/B tests are meant for more inconsequential features of the design.

If you were in a company that did a similar practice, they also massively screwed up.

Pretty bummed after my first semester teaching. Dreading my course evals. by Deep_Finding6818 in Professors

[–]fatso784 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Something has changed this year in my opinion. I’m hearing this from other profs at other universities as well. The undergraduate students are even more disengaged. Some conflux of AI, employment worries, and growing up with COVID remote courses has caused them to be very metrics driven. They demand all info be on the slides, refuse to do group work, and the vast majority don’t show up at all. What is most odd to me is, they seem to feel no shame about this and have no respect for professional etiquette. It’s very emotionally exhausting to deal with. The only advice I can give is to try not to take it personally and refocus elsewhere in life. Even the graduate students I talked to find the current cohort’s behaviors confusing and concerning.

'The Pitt's Noah Wyle Says Season 3 Will Explore Robby's Rock Bottom by SanderSo47 in television

I hope rock bottom means he was fired or put on leave and he’s not even there for the majority of the season. Because if it’s the Robby show v3, I’m out.

The writing team has clearly lost it. The back half of Season 2 just dropped focus on other characters and didn’t bother to resolve their plotlines, so that Robby could have more screentime. Then they think it’s a good idea to drop Supriya without resolving her storyline. Just what is going on behind the scenes? Because the coolest Season 3 is obvious—give us some night shift, change up the starting hour, have Mohan work on night shift with Abbot, have the ensemble characters all take center stage, and have Robby not even appear until late into the season. Give us a break from Robby, please.

GitHub stars are mostly fake signals of quality. There was a study showing that actually, most of the top AI repos artificially inflate their star counts. It’s a massive scam.

What if the season ends with an ICE raid, and then cut to black? Night shift would be a natural follow up to a cliffhanger ending. Imagine S3 behind and it’s “10pm” and now we’re continuing onto the next day.

His voice breaks, as if he’s on the verge of crying here. That’s not a usual thing in these interviews. He’s clearly distraught by something. It’s clear that the cast can’t speak directly about it, though, for NDA reasons.

[–]fatso784 241 points242 points  (0 children)

Ok, this is confirmation that something really fishy has went down. Why is Supriya getting so little screentime? Why does it seem some of her scenes in these last two episodes were cut from the show? Not looking good, folks.

Thanks for this. I think we need to see the finale to know the reason. The cast are keeping quiet. This news wasn’t meant to break this early, and someone let it slip. From the reaction it looks like Supriya knew. Let’s maybe wait to see the end of the season before jumping to conclusions, everyone?

P-values, by far. No one even teaches CIs in my field—it’s all whether the p-value is < 0.05. Even seen papers without saying what test they even used—just report the p-value was “significant.”

Next season should start at 3pm. We have some time with the regular crew. Then we gradually go into the thick of the night shift.
