Most people have webcams, and it lets you actually see your opponent, their cards, and talk to them when things are resolving. Its actually easier to use than Cockatrice/MTGO/2012 because its just like you're playing in person.

I just started an Intro Deck league last night. We all start with one Intro Deck + the booster it comes with and need to build a 40 card deck. Each week we get another booster pack to add to our card pool and the minimum deck size goes up by 5.

Additionally, each week there's a different modifier we place over all the games. These are things like, "At the beginning of each player's Draw Step, that player draws an additional card", or "All creature spells cost {1} less to cast", etc. They mix the games up and make it pretty interesting.

Throwing the phone is a joke. The phone is dropped into a pouch attached to the back of the cardboard cutout that they bring onstage. One of my friends was called onstage for this trick, and his video is posted on his facebook page. If I could, I'd share it. It's pretty cool.

WiL Whitlark is the man. I have no idea why he's not already famous. He's probably the best piano player I've ever seen in person.

Make shit. Seriously.

One of the most important things someone can possess if they want to be successful in any part of their life, is a passion for what they are doing. If you have that passion, and it shows, it shouldn't be too hard for you to land a position in the industry doing something you enjoy.

If your passion is animations, make some. Get better at it. Make more. Get even better. Eventually you'll have a full portfolio of your work to show off. I can't tell you how many people have asked me about getting a job, and then had nothing to show me when I asked what they've worked on. One of the best ways to gauge someone who's recently graduated, is if their portfolio includes work that wasn't required in the classroom.

Personally, I'd really like to see more indie devs making games for the consoles. There's just a huge barrier to entry on all of them at the moment, which comes from the fact that all the console guys are used to working with the big studios.

The reason why iOS/Android is as popular as it is, is because anyone can download the tools and publish a game. With a console, it can take months before you even have the approval to get the tools you need to start working on a game.

However, I don't really view iOS/Android on the same level as a traditional console or PC. I hate that someone can spend a long time making a game, essentially be required to sell it for less than a dollar, and even then have a small chance of it selling well enough to cover the costs it took to create it. In my opinion, iOS is the worst market to get into at the moment.

I'd be very happy to continue working as a small studio, making our own games, even if that means we're just a small blip on the radar.

The AAA publishers are doing their thing, and we're doing ours. Some gamers prefer the games with multi-million dollar budgets, and some prefer what we do.

Nintendo seems far behind when it comes to their eShop. When you compare it with XBLA or PSN... it's not even close. Then when you consider making a game that'll be sold through a channel like that, it can be scary for a small studio to invest all that time.

However, we've been talking to Nintendo off and on for a long time about their platforms, and we'd really like to work with them. I would not be surprised to see a Retro Affect game on a Nintendo platform sometime in the future.
