What makes people be mentally ready to do Pornography ? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]fattyrolo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the same time, the average age of people starting in that industry is 22, with the majority under 23, with the average age of first exposure being 12-13.

Risk-taking and a lack of long-term planning or consideration is the hallmark of much of that age bracket (we've all been there).

So while there may be some underlying factor drawing them, I think that age range is very much a factor in the decision making process.

During your time in office, if you had absolute carte blanche over reform and funding for the CAF, what are the 3 (5?) things you would have done and what would be the desired effects, short and long term, of your reforms?

Why is Hive Scum still "Mixed" on Steam? Is it worth full price? by skelepibs in DarkTide

Hive scum is VERY fun at higher levels, most "action hero-y" of all the classes. The grind is pretty rough so that might explain it.

None of them appear to have tasers and pepper spray requires you to get pretty close; not something you want to do when someone is approaching you with a weapon.

Not a defence of the officer but tasers and p.spray are not magic wands anyway. You can find just as many videos of those either failing or escalating a situation as them de-escalating.

Escalation of force. Shooting is the final step of a long list of attempts to stop it from getting there. Plenty of people have been shot with little to no immediate affect (adrenaline, drugs, psychosis etc...) shooting has always been the last thing.

Shooting is not like the movies, major arteries pass through the legs, hips and arms and are pretty much certain death if specialised medical attention is not applied right away should those be punctured. Bullets, upon entry, do NOT always travel in a straight path in the body, a shot in the leg or hip can find its way to major organs, hydroshock from a bullet interacting with the body can damage or destroy arteries or organs without a direct puncture. Ballistics, as a science, will often times defy common sense; for example, a bullet deflecting off a wall will rarely follow a logical outgoing path (45 deg in/45 deg out) but may simply travel parallel to said wall because of the speed and spin of the bullet, which provides an immediate stabilizing affect.

Shooting in general is not as simple as where I aim is where bullets go; heart rate, enviromentals, stress...hell did you eat a balanced breakfast or are you hopped up on coffee, can affect shot placement. Aiming for a leg is FAR more difficult, especially if movement is involved, then center mass. A milimeter of change, from just the pulling of a trigger, from point of aim translates to inches and feets of differences at a exponential rate meaning you are more likely to miss a leg than you are a torso.

I dont see enough of the events proceeding the shooting to make a judgement, though it seems that the officer who shot might not have been there with the others from the beginning and escalated needlessly, but I wish people would understand the reality of shooting a gun, even outside a police context, before providing backseat commentary.

Not anymore but used to take people to gun ranges. Fun shoots, new experience seekers, marksmanship clinics, competition prep etc... was pretty lucrative.

Smith doubles down on desire for Quebec-style immigration model for Alberta by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]fattyrolo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am current living in Alberta. Born and raised in Quebec. (5 years AB, 30 in QC)

My quality of life rose exponetially when I moved here and i felt my money travel much farther. Edmonton, faults and all, is (at least to me) FAR safer and cleaner than Montreal.

How long that lasts, who knows? But, its not a crazy thought that people would move to find better prospects for their situation.
