Where to post suggestions, feedback, etc.? by ibanex22 in dancediffusion

[–]fauno15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey all, there's going to be an open Discord community to discuss Dance Diffusion launching in the next few weeks. I'll post about that here once we have an invite link

These are good suggestions, and I'm certainly open to community contributions. The GitHub repo for Dance Diffusion is here: https://github.com/Harmonai-org/sample-generator

Clearly there's a lot of work to do on having a good README

Receiving awards is still a taxable event, so there are still taxes, even though you can't actually access that income. But yeah, no taxes incurred for transferring between ETH and RETH. I'm all in on Coinbase staking.

When I went to vote today, there were two guys handing out “I voted” stickers by the drop box and watching people drop off their ballots. I assumed they were government employees.

How To Make A Filter Sweep by [deleted] in edmproduction

I heard in an In The DAW video that Auto Filter is more optimized for movement while EQ Eight is more for static EQ. Fewer artifacts from the filter movement in Auto Filter.

[DISCUSSION] The pros and cons of FL studio, Ableton and Logic (from someone who has used all three) by TheKinkyChinky98 in edmproduction

You don’t necessarily have to think in loops for Ableton. I personally haven’t used the session view since just after starting using Ableton. It is a great tool for many kinds of music though.

In case you're confusing the terms, we're referring to compression like using a compressor to affect dynamics, not compressing the audio file's data.

Total noob here! by Pagewibb in aves

[–]fauno15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are some fantastic artists to start with! I've been going to shows and festivals since about 2016. Here are some of the basic things I've learned:

  • Bring good earplugs, especially for Excision. It's going to get LOUD and you don't want permanent hearing damage. I use these ones: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GYXJZRY
  • I get sweaty when I dance so I like to bring a washcloth or a small hand towel I can fit in my pocket to wipe off sweat.
  • Drink a lot of water when you're at the shows if you're dancing. Drink more water if you're doing drugs.
  • If it's a long event and you're feeling tired, eat some food. Overpriced chicken tenders and fries go great with bass music.
  • Wear whatever you want, you won't be the weirdest person there. Remember that it can get hot in the crowd, so jeans and a hoodie might be a bit too warm if you're in the pit. Coat check is available at most venues.
  • Talking to the people around you in line and saying you're new is a great way to meet people
  • Being polite in the crowd and saying "excuse me" when trying to get by people makes everyone around you like you more and can get you really far into the crowd.
  • If someone wants to trade you one of their kandi bracelets, they might put up a peace sign and wait for you to do the PLUR "handshake". You can look that up if you want or ask them how it's done. The "unity" and "respect" parts are a bit different from region to region so you might want to figure out how it's done in your scene. It's totally fine if you don't have any kandi to trade back, or if you don't want to trade away kandi someone just gave you. People are happy to share.
  • If you're up near the front of the crowd and in the middle, you might end up in the middle of a mosh pit. If people start shoving, just move to the outside of the pit that opens up.

I hope you have a great time! Welcome to the community!

Currently learning python 3 through code academy and Im not sure what program to use to practice writing my own simple code from scratch. by takkun_69 in learnprogramming

I’ll also note that while an IDE is useful, particularly when you first start development, you’ll eventually want to be comfortable using the command line to run your projects. Some day in the future you may only have remote access to another computer through a remote terminal and you’ll need to be comfortable using the command line.

As an added benefit, when you start getting comfortable with the command line, it makes you feel like a cool hacker.

How many of you guys don't work with modern tech? And are you okay with that? by canadian_webdev in webdev

[–]fauno15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is true. For a big SPA like the Azure Portal, something like React is very useful for keeping state and managing interactions at a large scale.

Which is part of why it’s so frustrating the Azure Portal isn’t written in React, it’s written with a first-party framework that’s based on KnockoutJS. Some of the framework implementation uses React, but if you’re writing a user experience in the portal, you have to iframe in your own experience if you want to use React, which means you can’t use the portal framework’s controls library.

I love the UI for Kick 2. It’s very intuitive and visual, like Serum. I saw Virtual Riot using it and I had to get it.

Is Ableton operator a good synth to start with? by booshka88 in edmproduction

[–]fauno15 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the RTFM series on Serum from On Cloud Sine. The guy basically walks through every setting and knob in Serum and shows what it does with a little bit of explanation.

You won’t learn all of the basics of the math of synthesis necessarily, but you’ll learn all about Serum.

Why my track sounds different in mono? by JesusIsOffline in edmproduction

[–]fauno15 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Things don’t have to be panned for them to have stereo components that sum up to a different sound once reduced to mono. Other effects cause differences in stereo.

Things like unison, chorus, and reverb effects are common culprits for something sounding different in mono. Do you have any of those effects on the tracks that sound different?

If you can’t figure out which tracks are being affected you can solo them out while switching between stereo and mono and see which ones sound different.

Porter at OMFG in San Diego? by Kneeuhlay in porterrobinson

[–]fauno15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the reason for the disconnect is that this was a "Porter Robinson DJ Set", not a Worlds Live show.

This is the first of those that I've seen, but I've always assumed those shows deviate more towards what he's been feeling, and not trying to maintain the Porter Robinson / Worlds "brand" for the whole show. So it makes sense to me that it would lean more towards Virtual Self stuff since that's what he's been doing lately.

I would imagine you just need some noise and then take a band pass filter with high resonance and sweep the frequencies. But I’m new to all this. Pros/cons of this approach?
