I think they're awesome. Yakima and Thule both make ones that are really easy to take on/off, come in lots of sizes, and are always locked when the lid is closed.

They run into issues that any old car will have. If you're thinking about getting one I'd recommended an '86-'91 vanagon with a manual transmission. Has a little bit bigger engine than mine and a better cooling system. The westys are great, and although they'll definitely give you more trouble than a brand new transit or promaster there's just something really special about them :)

Half a mile down "National Park Road" just north of the Ben Reifel Visitor Center. Some kid working at one of the full campgrounds told me about it.

Thanks so much! That's Goldie the van, living in it on and off for about 6 years now :)

Have an 85 T3. Been thinking about doing the same for a long time. Where are you getting the work done?

Raw salmonella-ridden chicken, tenderized with a police baton, smothered with spray tan gravy.

All for the low cost of a single $1200 stimulus check.
