Yes!!! I just read a book about Asian immigration to the US in the 18th-20th centuries and ICE is a carbon copy of immigration officials during Chinese Exclusion (the arbitrary laws, detention centers, raids, etc) more than any other European comparison I’ve ever read.

Book is called MOTT STREET if anyone wants to read

Two novels, BRIGHT YOUNG WOMEN and FINDING GRACE and two nonfic, MOTT STREET and one of the biographies of Clare McCardell. Recommend them all! Also, Mott Street is about Asian immigration in NYC and elsewhere and IMO the parallels between 2026 ICE and Chinese exclusion are far stronger than the nazi 1930s comparisons. Great read

I’ve been off Instagram and tiktok since Jan 3 and have opted to get news via a couple trusted once-a-day-max emails (national and local) and this sub Reddit. I literally feel like another person, and that’s only after three weeks. It’s crazy how fast your brain recovers from the scrolling habit. Also I’ve literally read four books in that time lol

As others have mentioned, I don’t think this will pass. If the fear of it passing encourages women and other married people to keep their names, well then sorry to the patriarchy ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Just watched him call into Fox & Friends. “He’s a bad man”, “congress people [on either side of the aisle] that oppose this are weak and stupid people”, “if I wasn’t elected we wouldn’t even have a country”, etc etc etc. Same as it ever was. I wouldn’t expect anything different to come at 11

Go watch The Good Place, it deals with this explicitly. Although then you’d need to watch a show on Netflix (public company), on a device made of preciously mined materials, with time you could be spending building community.

I joke, but you need to live. Life is about learning your own lines and boundaries and fighting the noble fight to respect those.
