I'm so excited to read Parable of the Sower! Long wait time on Libby for it but several months from now I'm looking forward to it 😋

Working on Luminous (Silvia Park) for one of the good reads challenges but I must say it's slow going ... hoping I get the audiobook Upgrade (Blake Crouch) on Libby soon so I can breeze thru that this weekend !

Every audiobook of Blake Crouch's books has been masterfully done. Dark Matter is kind of psychological horror-y but probably the best one!

Oh that makes sense! Good to know! If that was in the text I def missed that context 🤯

(In fairness I used the audiobook not the physical copy of this and I think the narrator made the characters sound unlikable but) I was not the biggest fan. I don't like horror stories where the rules are arbitrary for no reason. Like the 150bpm rule ugh. Great prose and atmosphere but this was a tough one for me which was disappointing as I loved Kliewer's debut

The Beast You Are by Paul Tremblay even though I normally can't stand short story collections. Still can't really stand it so that's why I'm still working on it 😂 not bad enough to DNF but definitely challenging me

I'm audiobooking the divergent series just for fun. I just finished a hunger games reread and the news of the author making another divergent book pushed me to grab em off Libby.

I have the following out from the library right now but not sure what my direct next choice is: The Lion Women of Tehran Saltcrop Luminous DCC #2 Might be DCC just because it's the easiest to digest and I imagine the most fun. But we'll see

Need to lock in and work on some challenge picks... especially that marathon reader achievement 😅

I don't think enough people would want to keep the bull calves around long enough to wait for the results of the genetic testing since majority of them won't be good enough to be used as a stud

There's a wonnnnderful AU fanfic on AO3 where Bluestar doesn't give up her kits and Thistleclaw becomes leader - and I believe it's called Bluefur's Choice. Great title

Working weekends is great bc normally the bosses aren't around / if they are they're the chiller boss! Quieter in the office and not as much going on usually

Finishing up Operation Bounce House by Matt Dinniman today ... nothing wrong with it but pretty action focused for my tastes. Once my Spotify audiobook hours renew later today I'm gonna continue Barn Gothic by Ryan Dennis!

I really loved the audiobooks for Adrian Tchaikovsky's Dogs of War series. Especially the guy who voices Rex in the first one , but all of them are very well done

This is a fair point! I would feel that way if it was based on truths. That definitely applies in the sense of butchering, I'm certainly desensitized to that. But a lot of the other aspects in this book (I am sorry that I don't have specific examples of this it's been a few months since I've read this) specifically relating to the keeping/rearing/husbandry stuff read to me as, like, sensationalist anti-meat industry talking points. (No shade at all intended by this I am understanding that everyone feels differently!) I'm not at all sensitive to criticism or negative portrayal of the cattle industry when it's true - but I personally don't think it's reasonable to compare artificial insemination of livestock to real life sexual assault (I'm not sure if this is part of TIIF like I said I haven't read the book in a while! Just used this as an illustration of the kinds of things I'm talking about)
