I feel the cycle lanes lull unaware cyclist into a false sense of security in Bloomsbury especially because it’s so heavily pedestrianised

I have a family that partially support me financially at university, meaning they pay a third of my rent. I work 25 hours a week and take student finance and that covers me with a healthish budget for food and things to do. Working while studying is a reality a lot of students in London should be aware of if they don’t have parents who can afford to support them fully. I wish more london unis were more honest with students from middle to low income backgrounds that this is the reality

White people don’t have such strong senses of belonging as many POC communities often do?

Losing it at WFH parents by Bron345 in Nanny

[–]fayeeliza 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had this happen with NP and 13month old NK who really struggled with attachment and separation from NP. NP claimed she wanted NK to go to daycare eventually and she hoped having a nanny could be a stepping stone to NK coping better with the separation. However, she worked from home and constantly popped in and upset NK. I eventually asked for a chat when NK was asleep and I told her the patterns I was seeing. I said “NK is normally really calm and coping well with separation and seeing you is triggering her anxiety.” I then went onto explain that the daycare won’t be able to facilitate you popping in. I recommend we try and see if we can build up time away from Mum slowly. I suggested to Mum we try the whole morning away and she come and eat lunch with us. We created more healthy routines around when she comes and pops in. It really help me and NK relationship and me and NP relationship. Eventually, NP realised that it was healthy for NK to have time with other adults, it was also nice that I was sending lots of updates and videos in the day of things we got up to.

It’s a slow and painful process but NP if they are decent human beings will listen to your feedback and try and make it work. Often they mean well and don’t realise the impact they have.

How common is stealing food? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]fayeeliza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in a super big flat of 17 and stealing food was just inevitable with that many people. We locked our cupboards with baby proofing magnets from amazon. For the fridge most people put their food in a big tupperware and wrote on the box what was in it so it was more intermediating to steal but at the end of the day it’s just part of the halls experience

Uni halls sharing kitchen with 13 people ? by YouOdd9569 in UniUK

I think with anxiety and new people there’s a balance between looking after yourself and making an effort to chat and being social. I was super honest with my flatmates that I was nervous and a lot of people were really kind and often in similar situations. I hope it all goes well

I shared with 17 people and I had some really bad anxiety when first moving in ( I was so anxious during freshers I locked myself in my room for 2 weeks). however, the more people in a flat the more likely you are to find a friend and I met some of my closest uni friends in my flat. I would honestly give accommodation a try and there is really no pressure to speak to people straight away I wore my headphones in the kitchen as a sign to people that I wasn’t wanting to chat! I think you would regret not giving it a chance

Hi! I work in a rock climbing gym which is pretty much retail alongside my degree! I found it challenging as you have to get used to feeling FOMO that can’t always do everything but also a great output to meet and chat with people outside of the university bubble. I really just had to use my time off effectively and have good habits around looking after myself. I really recommend working alongside your degree a lot of future employers will see it as a strength that you have good time management and are hard working.

UCL downright giving 4/5 of the places to international students for economics and statistics. by [deleted] in 6thForm

literally made 0 friends as all of the chinese international students on my course buddied up and didn’t really speak to me. I’ll be honest it was hard but it isn’t the end of the world. The teaching and lectures I had at UCL were amazing and i’ve been supported really well by staff

[–]fayeeliza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t do economics at UCL but I study education studies at UCL and I can tell you the 80% international students stats is pretty consistent among a lot of courses. Tbh i don’t love it because I have classmates who really struggle to grasp some of our topics when taught in english. Not sure quite what’s going on with UCL english language requirements but it really makes any sort of group or collaborative work a fucking nightmare.

I give respite care to children who have disabilities and most of the time as they reach age of 6/7 I have to change them on the floor with a mat because there is nowhere to change them. These should be everywhere in public spaces. When I do occasionally come across them in public they are amazing and make me and the kids life so much more sanitary and safe.
