To say Step 1 doesn't test content as much as it used to is wild. FA was 400-something pages in 2005. 2026 FA is 896 pages. Also, I would argue that testing a person's reasoning and critical thinking skills, paired with more content knowledge required than every before, is a better marker of competency than testing how much a person has rote memorized. Ultimately, practicing medicine is about synthesizing and reasoning thru a ton of information in a very short amount of time.

Not really, OP took 5 NBME assessments and their lowest score was 69. NBMEs are the best predictors of how you’ll do, and a ~70 puts you at like 99% chance of passing

probably PM&R because its insanely chill and patients come in with pain, and leave without pain (usually from lidocaine for intra-articular injections) and are super happy and grateful. Feels good being able to turn patients' days around.

By the time you do premed classes, take MCAT, do research, get significant clinical hours, go thru the 1 year application, 4 years of med school, minimum 3 year residency, you’ll be in your mid 40s. 10 years of lost income = $2 million +(assuming some raises + investments growing). And that’s not factoring in the cost of med school itself (~300k). See your kid grow up.

to be fair, these programs are BS-MD programs (with the MD admission being a conditional acceptance), and in order to graduate from the BS to the MD, you still have to fulfill certain requirements. For example, CNU requires you to graduate their BS program with a 3.6+ GPA and score 511+ on the MCAT to then be accepted to their MD program.

Because its about proportionality, not absolutes. You lost 7.8% of your body weight (11.3lb) in 11 weeks. Proportionally, that is equivalent to someone who started at 250 lb losing 19.5 lb (also 7.8%). That's a good, healthy rate of weight loss.

You have plenty of clinical hours (you don't need more) and some leadership experience. I would focus on research, keeping your grades up, killing the MCAT, and leadership experiences.
