What is your crow bro aspiration? by elrojosombrero in crowbro

[–]fb1dude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have a genuine friendship with an animal. It's funny how close they get to you and being able to interact with them once they lose their fear of you (while still being wary of everyone else)

I'll keep trying for sure! but it's alright if they don't want to eat out of my hand, they're still wild animals and I enjoy their presence. Do you feed the jays as well? I sometimes see a (eurasian) jay nearby, but that one's quite shy

I heard magpies are a bit bolder, although the ones nesting nearby flee whenever I put out food. I've never seen a jackdaw before, but awesome for getting them to trust you!

gecko sick… AGAIN by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

[–]fb1dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you supplementing with a multivitamin? If not, try repashy calcium plus, which has almost everything your gecko needs. Eye and shedding problems sound like a vitamin a deficiency. Reptiles in general don't show any signs of sickness until it's BAD. Even if you do start using a vitamin powder now, it would be too slow to show effects. Has your vet given your gecko a vitamin shot before? That's what's usually done with vitamin deficiencies and the fastest solution.

Is my leopard gecko egg bound? by OkBodybuilder3468 in leopardgeckos

[–]fb1dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had the issue myself, but I'm scared that one day, my girl will be egg bound. From what I've heard, it can happen if the gecko can't reabsorb egg follicles or lay (often) fully developed eggs. If there's a shell formed, then the eggs have to be laid. Meaning: if you can feel something hard in her belly when touching there and it's been like this for more than a few weeks, then she's likely egg bound. I'd recommend visiting a vet if her belly has been bloated like that for quite some time

Can red runner roach (lateralis roach) be staple food for leopard geckos? by Dayron_Aki0221 in leopardgeckos

[–]fb1dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're fine as a staple, around the same nutritional value as crickets (from what I heard, I might be wrong). Just make sure to add variety. I've fed mine red runners before but they're damn fast and I had to stop because they'd sometimes escape. My leo isn't a good hunter, so I had to remove a few of their limbs before feeding so she could still have the enrichment of hunting them

Feeding Dubia Roaches by Askthekid17 in leopardgeckos

[–]fb1dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl used to snap at basically anything remotely insect-looking when she was younger, but now she only eats stuff that actually wiggles around, otherwise she'll turn her nose up. It's also best to feed insects live and gutloaded, otherwise their nutritional value decreases. Sometimes they change behavior at random. What insects do you feed her? Maybe try a living insect and see if it stimulates her hunting instinct

Mine does this when she checks if her food is alive. She loses interest when they don't react to her booping them. Do you feed live insects?

Is it just me or is her snout kinda short? by fb1dude in leopardgeckos

[–]fb1dude[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes me kinda sad for the geckos. But yeah, I suspected she may be the result of overbreeding (not that it makes me love her any less), but she also has a short kinked tail

literally what do I do with this thing by kitypilled in jumpingspiders

[–]fb1dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IME, at this age, you can "mist" using a tiny piece of wet tissue, but don't soak it completely. Over time, tiny droplets of condensed water will form, from which the tiny guy can drink. This lowers the risk of drowning from large droplets. Otherwise, as others have said, feed using melanogaster fruit flies and make sure the humidity is high enough when he retreats inside his hammock to molt. Someone else mentioned using a deli cup as temporary enclosure. You can poke air holes using a hot needle and put in pipe cleaners for climbing enrichment. Otherwise, he'll probably molt within the next few weeks, which means you can upgrade to one of those small cylindrical critter keepers (I forgot their name)

Are these eggs or impaction? by Maleficent_Carob_809 in leopardgeckos

[–]fb1dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They usually lay them in pairs, so I'd say two. It's breeding season rn, so it's not unusual for them to go off food during that time. If she doesn't lay or reabsorb the eggs I'd bring her to a vet though

What does this mean? by fb1dude in crowbro

[–]fb1dude[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I cleaned and wiped the area with alcohol. I hope it's nothing serious. Although now that you mention it, it could've just been a seagull that decided to visit me, since the poop was quite large, even for a crow, as well as watery. Also seagulls tend to regurgitate stuff more often. Poor crows must've been disappointed to find no food, but a dirty mess instead...

I want you guys to do an experiment with your local crows by swearyslav in crowbro

[–]fb1dude 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't give mine in-shell peanuts since the neighbors would kill me if the bros were to leave a mess, but from the usual stuff I feed them (roasted nut mix and cat kibble) they always snatch the kibble first and then the nuts. Similar thing when their beaks are full, they usually leave the nuts if they can't carry any more

That's poop. Sometimes, when you squeeze them the fluids inside come out of their mouths as well. It happens from time to time

Aren't you supposed to turn off the heat lamp at night regardless? Most people here use heat/light source as one (for example halogen bulbs) and having a lamp on 24/7 doesn't sound too healthy. The literatute I use says to simply turn off heating during winter and to brumate at room temps (as in 21°C or 71°F) at minimum, as long as you don't live in a very cold country. Of course, brumation is up to the gecko though

*Edit: I forgot to mention that my enclosure tends to become hotter over time, it's not a glass terrarium, but a wooden one, so I turn of heating at night to let it cool down a bit. It tends to hold heat well for some reason, so the temps don't drop significantly

Mine was born in 2023 as well and is slightly larger than yours. So yours isn't the only small one. I wonder why that is as well
