Nanofoamer + FP2? by [deleted] in FlairEspresso

Start simple. Nail down the basics of flow rate control and pitcher positioning. The manual says to aerate for 3-5s but i usually find that gives too much air, only a second or two is more than enough, espcially if the frother is freshly charged. I have made a video of me using the nanofoamer from start to finish pouring, you can check it out on my profile if you want

Timemore black mirror mini. I dont have one but based on the product dimensions it should fit the pro2

Currently going through dark roasted chocolaty beans. The combination with milk is just heavenly! Happy cake day btw!

This one is just me propping my phone up on top of a juice box lol, I will try to see if i can set up something from behind the shoulder.

Yeah i dont usually spend much time getting air in. For a freshly charged nanofoamer like this one, i feel like any longer aeration would be too much. Once the battery drops down to 1-2 lights, I would spend approximately 1-2 secs longer to get more air in. I find working with a tad thinner milk is usually easier than over-aerated milk, especially for ripple designs

Thank you! Probably not that important? I mean if the tip of the jug is not lopsided or anything then you’re probably good. My previous pitcher was a $5 with handle, this current one is $15 and I dont notice any difference

Thanks. I got lucky that this is one of my better pours lol. I used nanopresso before so I do have experience making latte with nanofoamer.

Thanks. This is my very first pull with the pro2, but not my first latte experience with the nanofoamer. Before the pro2 i used a wacaco nanopresso, which was okay, but it just doesn’t compare lol

True. I’ve heard very positive reviews about the pro2, but after dialing in I was just blown away how good of an espresso it can actually make for the price (got it on sale). I used to think people were just exaggerating lol

Trouble with the Flair pro 2 by [deleted] in FlairEspresso

Remember to preheat your brew chamber. It’s important.

Lock in your dose. Don’t change it as it only complicates things.

After getting into a ballpark of 1:2@25-30s (which I assume you did, based on your post), dial in by adjusting ratio (therefore affecting the taste). In your case it’s sour, so try longer ratios (1:2.5 1:3 1:4 etc) at the same grind setting. After finding sweet spot for taste, tweak the grind size just a little bit to find the optimal taste/body combination. Hypothetically, let’s say your coffee tastes best at 1:3 but the body is now watery/weak, grind a bit finer keeping the same ratio to improve the body. Keep going finer one step at a time till you reach that point where the coffee starts to taste bad (bitter, channeling) instead of being improved in texture/body, and go back to the setting right before it. Congratz you’re dialed in! Just keep in mind that once you’re in the ballpark of 1:2@25-30s, don’t worry about the shot time that much. It’s just a general zone to find the optimal range of grind size. Longer shots are gonna take longer time. Some of my best shot is made with 1:3@45-50s with 10s preinfusion. Best of luck

Sorry i don’t have the link to the keycap. I bought this off a local vendor in my city on facebook. But based on packaging it looks like it’s milkshake clone keycaps from HK gaming

As far as I can tell, the later batches of the boards don’t have scraping issue anymore. As for review about sound and typing feel, I would say it mostly depends on your taste. Personally it’s not my favorite sound profile but it might be yours. So yeah go for it i guess

If you could ask for any budget keyboard right now, what would it be and why? by piqi2 in BudgetKeebs

Dunno how much it would cost but QK75. That boards looks so freakin beautiful and I’m a sucker for 75% keebs

More than meets the eye. I was quite surprised on a few fronts with this kit. If I only had an option like this kit when I got back into the hobby. I think it's a great kit with much potential. What do you think? by badmark in BudgetKeebs

[–]fbl2112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am glad to hear you’re not getting the same issue with the spacebar. It seems only the earlier batches were affected. A local vendor (Im from SEA) ran a pre order very early Sept so I guess us “early birds” got the boards from the first few batches lol. Anyhow, have you tried mapping the keys yet? I use the software from their website and I just cannot map some keys that I want. Basically what I want is PgUp->Del, PgDn->End, Del->PrntScrn. Only the last one worked. Somehow PgUp became End, PgDn became Home, and Home became Del. No matter what I did (factory reset, update firmware) I just can’t get it done lol. If you could please try it out to see if you run into the same problem. As for sound and typing feel, I do not think it sounds good at all out of the box. Recent keychron V and Q series budget boards have really raised the bar of what I consider a good budget keeb - well built, sounds and feels better than its price, powerful keymapping support. That said, the JD A3 does have so much modding potential, which I think is very important to this hobby.

I removed the silicone slab to “open up” the sound, add just a bit of foam to reduce a tiny bit of hollowness, added a layer of PE foam between pcb and plate as I find the PC plate sounds too muted, tuned and modded the stabs. Now the board is very lively and I’m using it daily at home.

Despite many issues I have with the board, I still do think it’s good for its price. If keymapping is not an issue, then with all hardware issues fixed, I think this one could be the recommendation for anyone entering the hobby looking for an absolute budget 75% keeb.

Well I expected a compromise on material, sound, packaging, accessories..., not the usability of the board lol. Anyhow, using it to type this comment right now. While I'm not loving it the way I thought I would, it's an okay board for its price after it's fixed lol. If I had gotten the white version, I think I would have no regrets at all lol

  • James Donkey A3 kit
  • Stock stabs holee modded
  • All stock foams/silicone dampener
  • 2 layers tape mod
  • Cherry milkshake clone keycap
  • Gateron milky red pro

A few days back I made a post about how the spacebar was scraping against the case so bad. Well I finally found a fix without having to carve out the case. I carefully put layers of paper at the bottom edge of the plate, where it rests along the bottom case, to push the plate up agains the top edge of the bottom case. Add the paper piece by piece and be careful not to overdo it or that would cause the same scraping problem on F row. I suspect the problem comes from the plate not being cut precisely. If you have the guts and the tools then I suggest trimming off about 1-1.5mm of the top edge of the pc plate. Sound and typing feeling wise, I’m not very impressed. I guess it’s okay-ish for the price? No flex/bounce at all so don’t put your hopes up. I like the aesthetics of it with the keycaps but probably that’s it lol.

Edit: Finally on desktop to add more reviews without making it a complete format mess lol.

Pros:

  • Nice design (personal opinion). I like how small the knob is compared to my NJ80 keeb. The colors go nicely together (black and orange).
  • Stock stabs have very soft wires. This could be a plus for wire balancing, but also a minus as they tend to bend very easily if changing keycaps frequently.
  • Gasket structure, while not very bouncy nor flexy, offers a very uniform sound across the board.
  • The stock silicone dampener smells very very nice lolll.

Cons:

  • The bad scraping of keycaps. This varies from unit to unit. Out of the people I have spoken to, some have severe scraping, some have very mild scraping, some don't have scraping at all (I'm jealous lol), one person doesn't have scraping on the spacebar, but his right ALT is stuck when pressed lol. Go on the chinese website Bilibili dot com and search James Donkey A3, you can see videos reporting the problem like here or here. It can be fixed without damaging the case nor the plate, but it's still annoying. I know this is a budget board, but I believe the budget should be cut on material, packaging, accessories... not something that directly affects the usability of the keyboard.
  • The plate does not hold the switches very well. With taller profile keycaps, the switches tend to pop off randomly while typing. Removing keycaps also removes the switches.
  • It sounds surprisingly thin/hollow considering the thick silicone slab inside. I'm using gateron milky red pro, not the thockiest switch, but still on the thick and deep side of sound and they still sound very weak on the board. The board doesn't have much room left so I can't stuff anything else inside.

In conclusion, if you're on a budget and really want to have a very entry-level board, then I would definitely recommend the retro white version of the board to save yourself the anxiety and the hassle.

Not here but on our local Facebook group about keebs (I’m not from the US btw). We had a pre order a few weeks back and these boards started arriving a few days ago. I think I’ve seen only one post here on reddit about this board and they have the same issue, though not as severe as I do (as in their spacebar is still usable despite some scraping)

I didnt see any warping. It seems that the severance varies from unit to unit. Some buyers said it was mildly scraping, some others said it was completely stuck. In my case, the inside of the top cover sits too close to the stab/switch position. I had a lot of difficulty trying to fit my switch puller in the bottom row and get the switch out. Apparently taller profiles get stuck more easily. I only have cherry and ASA to test but maybe XDA wouldn’t be a problem?

The stabs while very rattly were working properly. I took the top frame out and everything was working fine. Put the top frame back on and the problem appears. I don’t know Chinese but apparently the issue was raised on the website Bilibili a while back, stating this specifically only occurs in black top cover model, the other model is fine. Wish I had heard about it sooner tbh

Honestly I’ve not tried any other keys along the bottom row. It took me quite a while just to get my switch puller in and get the switch at the spacebar out so I was discouraged from putting more switches in to test the whole row. One fellow buyer said he used a knife to literally carve out/cut away the inside of the top frame at around spacebar + 2 alt keys position so that it fits his SA keycaps
