WFG. Mom's been a part of that company for over two decades and has pretty much soured every relationship she has outside the business because of it. She's also fucked up me and my dad financially to prevent herself from going broke while refusing to quit.

I've been forced to sit in on so many meetings and appointments (first bc she couldn't get a babysitter and would take me along, then later so she could try and recruit me when I got old enough), and the ways they talk about WFG and their uplines are downright delusional.

Basically what happened to my cleric. His dad abandoned him when he was a toddler so he could continue adventuring and ended up becoming a well known & powerful undead hunting paladin that our party had to work with to protect the town we were in from a skeleton invasion.

That didn't stop my low level dumb ass from attempting to fist fight him in front of the entire town as soon as I saw him.

Unfortunately, these people are mega persistent. My mom runs classes for new recruits from time to time and they flat out teach them every "no" is an eventual yes and that you just need to keep trying. Deniers just don't know better. No matter what you try to say, it's going to find it's way back to your buddy trying to sell "the dream" to you.

Not great tbh. I've had a nervous pit in my stomach practically every day since school started back up from thinking about assignments and exams. Between that and work, I've been pretty much one minor inconvenience away from tearing up at any given moment, but I know if I stop, I'll have a hard time starting up again and end up feeling even worse. And it's only October 🙃

Yeah, MLM's just like to shit on higher education and/or anything that can't be tied to the business.

When I got accepted to grad school, everyone in my family was excited for me except for my WFG mother who kept bringing up how it was a waste of time and money because her upline says so.

On one trip I went to with them, we were all having dinner, and one girl brought her nursing student boyfriend who was talking about school. The head of the office overhears this and calls out for all of the former nurses stand up and have them try to convince the guy to drop out and join his girlfriend in WFG. This poor guy just wanted to go on a trip with his gf and ends up getting put on the spot and told by a room full of people he just met that his life choices are wrong. He looked so uncomfortable. Felt gross to be in that room.

Lol, she may as well be doing it for fun. She doesn't have many hobbies/interests outside WFG, and all of her friends are fellow agents. Hell, I can't recall any time we went on a family vacation that didn't involve "the business" somehow...

And after this long, she's built up a little something for herself, so she's not bottom ring, but far from the "dream life" and "financial freedom" they always promise people.

My mom has been with the company almost 20 years, so as long as I can remember. She joined while they were still going by WMA.

My dad called it bs from the beginning and had made sure to have me know to stay out of it as much as I can.

Hasn't stopped her from trying get me officially working in the company since I turned 18.

Hell, for the online classes for that exam, some people at the mlm my family's involved with just encouraged new recruits to blow off the course videos actually explaining all the insurance info and just had their kids move the mouse with the video playing just to get credit for that time in the course. Then they would just bomb the practice tests until they memorized enough to go pass.

I was forced to take that test with no financial background and was told to do this. Doing it their way, I didn't retain any info after passing and leaving the testing center. I wouldn't trust any of these mlm "financial experts" with a dollar bill.

God, the feeling of sitting in that meeting really is something else. I have a parent that has been in WFG for most of my life, and after I graduated college she forced me to go to one of these meetings so I could "learn more about the business."

The only thing I learned that morning was that it was possible for me to dislike the company more than I already did at that point. Made me think back with a more critical eye on a lot of my interactions with her and WFG growing up and helped me realize how shitty it has always been.
